Great Suspense in the Fashion World An excellent, suspenseful mix of high fashion, corporate intrigue and whodunit, clearly written by someone who's well-versed in the doings of the high-fashion world. Miller skillfully weaves "roman à clef" elements of the Gianni Versace story together with organized criminal involvement in the fashion industry and an old-fashioned murder mystery to produce a well-crafted page turner. The background sections on the rise of his fashion designer, Giorgio Donati, are particularly well-done, and reveal an insider's knowledge of that industry. The money laundering scheme, bringing the Mafia into the story for added suspense, similarly adds a strong element of verisimilitude to the plot. Definitely no "sophomore slump" apparent in this, Miller's second novel of intrigue in the world of "haute couture".
