Here's the truth: these guys are needlessly aggressive with fillings. If you're not very bright and don't know anything about teeth, you'll love it! They show you "pictures" of your teeth, "oh boy!"
Suggested FOUR fillings. I asked them to just do the one most necessary. Fast foward to two DIFFERENT dentists and years and years later and low and behold I don't need those other THREE fillings AT ALL.
Also my boyfriend got a filling there and it cracked only a few years later.
I'd be really cautious. Unless you're doing just a cleaning and don't mind being "sold" to.
Dr. Aria, Ashley, and the front office staff went above and beyond to help a gal with chipped front teeth (night stress grinding!) feel great before her sister-in-laws wedding. They were quick to get me in for an exam followed by the dental work, offered a fair out of pocket price (with bonus polishing to “make sure I’d look my best”), and helped me plan for other services once my insurance kicks in. Dr. Aria and Ashley’s bedside manners were the best I’ve ever received at a dental office — so approachable and friendly. The clinic was recommended by two neighbors and I’m so glad I asked!
My family used their services for a handful of years. Communication barriers created difficulty. There were multiple billing issues that took months and months to sort out with our insurance company. This created headaches and frustration. Every time I went for a cleaning, I had a different hygenist and a different dentist that always told me I needed yet another filling. This created inconsistent care. I didn't like it so we have moved our family to another dentist who is consistent and takes a more conservative approach to keeping our teeth intact.
Who likes going to the dentist? Well when it comes to seeing Dr Turk, I do, his bedside manner is great as is his sense of humor. The staff is welcoming and efficient.
If you fear the dentist check this clinic out!
*My story, through most of my adult life I did not have the money for dental care nor did I have the insurance coverage, let alone the ability to take time off for care. In my early twenties (I'm now in my mid 40's) I had a drug problem that destroyed my teeth. I kept moving forward with a closed mouth smile.
At one point I had Kaiser insurance and went for an evaluation and the dentist and her assistant left me feeling like there was no hope and to listen to the 2 of them talk about how fowl my mouth was... I left and never returned....continued to move forward with a closed mouth smile.
Things changed two years ago; when, I met Dr. Turk (out side of his clinic) and we got to talking and laughing. A few months later I had SEVERE tooth pain, so unbearable that action had to be taken on an emergency level. My employer reminded me about the interaction that I had with Dr. Turk and suggested that I reach out to him, I did. They got me in PROMPTLY and TOOK ACTION, I could function again. While in his chair he made jokes that put me at ease, he and his dental assistant made conversation that did not leave me feeling excluded, nor did they make me feel like an inferior human.
I continued with my life strategy of delay until in crisis and a year later I had another rotten tooth that had me screaming and writhing in pain, once again he took action. I still had rotten teeth and still would smile with my mouth closed.
Yesterday I went in for the first of what I would call the restoration of my smile. My front upper teeth. I am looking in the mirror and crying tears of joy as I can pull my cheeks into a full toothy smile.
I do not know how to thank Dr. Turk enough!
(Good thoughts, Good words, Good Deeds)
Not only did they completely over charge, but they also completely traumatized my kid so badly by not listening to his signals (the ones they taught him!) when getting teeth extracted telling them that he could feel sharp pain instead of being numbed as he should have been. Have a faulty ortho plan when receiving options from 2 other ortho places and all procedures were seemingly decided by and executed by the assistant. When asked questions about treatment they would give round about answers or try to tell you that it could be discussed later. Also had to fight them to get mine and my kids’ records. OUR records. Would give zero stars if possible.
After four days of getting my wisdom tooth pulled out by Dr. Turk, I was in so much pain. I went back to check if there were any infections. Dr. Turk downplayed it and called me a “delicate flower” in a degrading tone. I was insulted and felt unwelcome. The hygienist also made sure I feel unwelcome. I will not step in that place if it is the last place in town even if I lose all my teeth.

Well, no one ever said Wisdom Teeth extraction would be easy or fun. My healing was interrupted by a few complications, no one's fault. However, Doctor Hunt was there the whole step of the way. Even fit me in on his day off to help. Communication with him has been awesome and I feel as though I'm on my way to a wonderful recovery......bring on the onion rings(in 2 weeks).
Thanks to the entire team and especially Doctor Hunt.
To find a dentist office that is open on weekends and open til 7pm is so rare. My first appointment was: scheduled with ease, very thorough and I left with a full understanding of what the dentist was recommending.
Love this place.

Thank you for the kind review.
February 2025 update: it has been less than three years since I got my fillings and I already have to replace two of them. I am so upset that I trusted this place to work on my teeth and that I gave them so much money. It also ultimately took over a year for my one filling to stop hurting.
TL;DR Dr. Hawthorne gave me a botched filling and refused to fix it on either of my two follow-up visits.
I went to Portsmouth Dental Care this spring to get checked out because it had been way too long since my last cleaning and they were near my apartment. They took an x-ray and booked me to get a million cavities filled over two appointments in May 2022.
About a month after my second appointment one of my fillings was still hurting so I went in to have Dr. Hawthorne look at it and he grinded it down some more and told me to come back if it was still hurting in a week.
It was absolutely still hurting a week later so I went back and went in at the time that the clinic asked me to. I had to wait an entire hour past my appointment time just to be seen and by the time Dr. Hawthorne made it to me he clearly wasn't paying attention to a word I said (example: I told him my filling hurt most when I ate crunchier foods and he repeated back "so your tooth's feeling crunchy?").
He did the exact same thing he did to "fix" my filling in the previous appointment, which was to grind the filling down some more. I asked him how doing the exact same thing that didn't work last time was going to fix it this time and he just brushed me off.
December 2022 and my tooth still hurts if I eat or drink something too cold but I can't see a new dentist until next year since they used up my entire dental insurance for the year (but they still somehow billed me $1,400 out of pocket).
Anyway I'm poor and my mouth hurts, stay away.
I was a LOYAL patient of Portsmouth Dental for 20 +years. I’m a Very respectful person and I’ve always shown RESPECT to Dr. Turk and his staff from the beginning to end . I’m not perfect I have my days but when new staff came on board, the front office Gradually were more worried about collecting money upfront than demanding their lab team to be more efficient and precise.
I’m not here to badmouth anyone, but unfortunately, the final service that I received was unsatisfactory. Upon complaining about it three different times, I was accused of being difficult, a complainer for not accepting the bare minimum. Please forgive me but No one should ever feel guilty because they're not satisfied. They tried to bully me , instead of speaking with their lab team to correct the issues.,I hope no one else experiences this kind of thing. Portsmouth BE NICE!! if you don’t like your job you need to leave, but please stop treating patients in different because of your personal judgment. Please stop judging people when the work is not up to par. Felt like discrimination and I will never understand why Dr. Turk changed and started acting brand new
I am a high maintenance patient. I have to be medicated to have any work done. I have to have nitrous just to get my teeth cleaned. I cannot express how amazing this place is. How wonderful Dr Turk is. This facility is dedicated to patience and kindness, and I can’t recommend them more. If you are of faintheart, this is your home. Thank you thank you Portsmouth !

Thank you for the kind review, we appreciate it.
I had an appointment there a while ago. The Asian doctor and the blonde nurse were so unprofessional and even laughed at me and my discomfort when all I asked for was antibiotics for the cavity I needed removed.

Hello Michael, so sorry you felt this way during your appointment. We do always try to make sure our patients are taken car of, and treated with the utmost respect.
My problem is their listing. Do not call if you have OHP. They seemed pleasant enough but they’re website says they take medicare and OHP and they don’t. I have no idea if they're any good not but when you’re in pain -it’s really depressing to hear that you won’t be seen
