My husband and I did a mountain climbing tour w Alex and it was nothing short of AMAZING. He made sure we had plenty of snacks and water and met us at our hotel before doing the drive to the wall. On the way he gave us a walkie-talkie so that he could fill us in on all of the cool spots we were passing! Alex is super culturally aligned, really friendly and sooooo knowledgeable. We also felt really safe. We learned so much just within these few hours together. We can’t wait to do it again next time we’re in Ojai. HIGHLY recommend this experience!!!!!

First of all, thank you Alex, that was a badass surreal experience. To anyone thinking of hiring a rock climbing guide, Alex is your man. He took our group out to a trail in Montecito where he casually free soloed this rock wall to get our ropes up on the wall to make it safe for us. Bear in mind this is my absolute first time legit rock climbing. He made sure it was safe and I got up each wall first try (no easy task) because of his excellent advice. I had a ton of fun but also overcame real adversity, getting up the last wall was a true challenge. Once you get up and take in the view, you’ll really feel alive. Alex brought us delicious sandwiches for lunch and made it a most welcoming experience. I will definitely do this again and have Alex be my rock climbing guide again at other locations.

Wow! No words can really express how impressed I was by Alex's knowledge, experience and professionalism during our rock climbing instruction. My climbing partner and I hired him for a full day of learning anchor building. During an initial planning call he shared he'd be available until sundown to teach us other skills beyond anchor building which was a pleasant surprise. We took advantage of that and made a list of other skills we'd like to learn by priority. During the day, he answered all our questions thoroughly and clearly even if they were off topic for the day. At the end of the instruction, we got a full debrief and in the days following he was available by text to answer any lingering questions or clarify anything we were confused about. He even took photos/video with his Go Pro and sent them to us! The price he charges is very well worth it. I am already thinking about the next time I'd like to go out and learn more. He has empowered me as a sport climber to feel more confident in the material I'm using, how to read the rock, and how to trust the strategies I learned. I highly recommend him even if you are a seasoned climber! He stays up to date on best practices which can change over time. For example, I have known how to rappel for years, but recently the standards have changed that recommend an extended rappel. I would've never known since I'm only a recreational climber, but Alex is a guide and stays on top of most recent recommendations. Whether you're new or experienced, there is always something more to know that can only empower you out at the crag.

I have known Alex for over 10 years and there’s no one I trust more to help me expand my skill set when it comes to climbing than him! I hired him a long time ago to help my dad with the belay skills I had already taught him so I could trust my dad and do some gym climbing with him. Recently my friend Kelly and I hired him to teach us sport anchor building, rescue techniques, the extended rappel with an auto block hitch and several other things. Just like when I hired him to help me and my dad he was incredibly professional even though we are friends. He is non-judgmental, he is encouraging and he is methodical. We had a thorough discussion about my goals. At the time my only climbing experience was ice climbing overseas. I wanted to learn everything and I was looking for a comprehensive training plan. Alex recommended building a strong foundation and education in Trad / Traditional climbing, mixed with sport climbing. I booked 3 full day sessions with Alex for the week. Day one was a full day I showed up with a notebook and pencil for the curriculum Alex developed for me. We started on the ground with a strong foundation in climbing basics, technical, safety building solid anchors, how to place protection, essential climbing knots to learn first and fall factors. I was very impressed that Alex truly listened to me and my learning needs and style on the phone. After our half day of education and belaying practice we had a lunch break. Lunch was amazing and Alex was very thoughtful about my dietary needs. After lunch we started climbing (Yay!)
I felt confident and prepared as I started my first top rope climb on black wall. Knowing how to correctly place and clean my own safety gear (cams) really made me feel more confident and safe about my climb. Our experience with Alex was so great - he was patient and encouraging to us as first time rock climbers and took us to such a beautiful spot for the climb. Those of us that were waiting for our turn were fully entertained by the incredible scenery. We also were able to fully trust him in a situation that has plenty of inherent dangers, enough that we were not afraid for our small children to make the climb with him. I highly recommend the experience with Alex as your guide!
