Definitely an interesting mix of tastes but nothing out of the world eclectic if you've eaten at ethnically diverse restaurants. Food felt heavy on the salt. Felt underwhelming given the high ratings

Nue is a quirky and fascinating restaurant that truly takes you around the globe. You’re surrounded by eclectic international gadgets and trinkets, and it’s genuinely fun to look around while waiting for your meal. Speaking of food, it was exceptional. I don’t know how one restaurant can perfect so many cuisines. The cornbread is sweet and fluffy 🤤. The South African curry served in traditional bread is a beautiful balance of sweet and nutty, and the Balinese ribs are saucy, tender, and generously meaty. The addition of peanuts on the ribs is a total hit. Our server was incredibly kind and offered spot-on food and drink recommendations. Their drinks are also unique and absolutely delicious!

Hi Ralph! Really appreciate you taking the time to leave this, and I’m glad you had such a good time with us. The fact that you noticed all the oddball stuff on the walls always makes my day, since half of it comes from me dragging things home from trips and convincing everyone it belongs in a restaurant.

Also happy to hear the dishes hit for you. The Balinese ribs and the Bunny Chow are two of my favs so it’s great when someone calls them out. And thanks for the shout-out to the team, they’ll be happy to hear it.

Hope we get to feed you again soon.

The concept is cool and there are interesting items on the menu, especially alcoholic. But I have not walked away from here impressed or have a desire to go back. The chicken masala has good flavors but the "bread bowl" it is served in is actually half a loaf of sliced sandwich bread. Which is not what I imagined in my head. It got soggy fast, and was a bad texture. It became paste mixed with the sauce. The sausage sandwich was comically flat and devoid of much else besides sausage and French demi baguette. Could have used a veg inside or as a side. The cornbread tasted like cornbread I could make at home. My mulled wine was very sour and barely spiced. My friend's mixed drink was better. This most recent experience was my second time here, but I completely forgot about the first. The food was not memorable at all. The only reason I remembered I was there before was the decor. I think the decor is awesome and the international cocktail menu is where it's at. Great for a date, but eat elsewhere.

Hi Zoe,

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Our menu leans heavily on traditional street foods from around the world, so dishes sometimes show up in forms folks don’t expect. The chicken masala you mentioned is our South African bunny chow, which is customarily served in a hollowed loaf of pullman bread, not a bakery boule. We stay pretty true to that format.

Totally understand if that style isn’t your preference and glad to hear the cocktail list and decor stood out for you. I appreciate you giving us another try!

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Nue! The food and drinks were amazing (I got the wings and a fruity cocktail). The server was so kind and gave good insight into what I should order. But what really blew me away is that I had left my purse there of course without realizing and they called us to let me know and let me come get it!! Incredible service and kind staff on top of the delicious food and drinks. We also had the puppy chow, corn bread, and the Portuguese sandwich which we were all very happy with. Highly recommend :-)

I came all the way from Mississippi for the coconut cornbread and it's one of the best things I've ever eaten
Reply from Nue 2025.10.29
Coming from Mississippi, that’s just about the highest compliment a cornbread can get. Really glad you made the trip and that ours hit the spot. Hope we get to see you again next time you’re in Seattle!

Cheers,
Chris

The food here is unforgettable—bold flavors that feel like eating at your grandma’s house with all your cousins gathered around the table. The ribs were tender and rich, and the Ethiopian injera platter was tangy, playful, and perfect for sharing. Every dish carries a soulfulness that keeps me coming back. I truly wanted to give a five-star review, but I ran into a problem with the sangria. If you’re going to charge for a carafe, please give your guests the true value—not a carafe full of ice. On my last visit, it arrived so packed with ice that it only poured three glasses, compared to the generous carafe I enjoyed before. When I raised this, the server initially dismissed me in a way that made me feel like my integrity was being doubted, which was disappointing. To his credit, he did backtrack and apologize after I said I would just write a review. Still, if the carafe can’t consistently deliver value, it should be removed from the menu rather than charging guests the same as individual drinks. BTW-that is a picture of the first carafe from the week prior. My phone died before taking a picture of the iced carafe. That said, I still love this place. The flavors are powerful, comforting, and full of heart. When the service rises to match the excellence of the food, this restaurant shines as one of the best dining experiences anywhere.

Thank you for such a thoughtful review. I’m so glad you enjoyed the food, it means a lot to hear you describe it that way. And you’re absolutely right about the sangria carafe. I’m glad the server backtracked and made it right in the end, but it never should have happened in the first place. Training and consistency are always a moving target (sometimes it feels like herding cats), and feedback like yours really helps me see where to focus when I can’t be there in person. I truly appreciate you sharing this, and I hope your next visit shines all the way through!

We enjoyed the fried chicken wings tower! The brussel sprouts were nicely crispy and good with sauce. The pineapple cornbread was sadly really salty. We came on a holiday Sunday and there was only one chef working. Had to wait a lonnng time for any food. Will be back to try their chicken wings happy hour!
Reply from Nue 2025.11.10
Hi Conie and thanks so much for coming in and for taking the time to share this. Really glad to hear you liked the wings and the Brussels, but I’m so sorry about that cornbread. It definitely shouldn’t be salty like that. I’ll check in with the kitchen to make sure nothing went sideways there.

And yeah, I really appreciate your patience with the wait. It’s been a tricky stretch balancing staffing on certain days, especially holidays, and we’re still working on getting that smoothed out.

Hope you’ll come back soon for happy hour wings and we’ll do our best make sure things run a lot smoother next time.

Cheers,
Chris
