I rented from their agency in LAX, everything was running smoothly until the day I had to return the car. We got a flat tire and we had to change it. Luckily we had time to do this all before our flight. The reason I am giving a 2 star review is because when I called their customer service they either kept giving me the machine and telling me their working hours or the number that I could text. When I texted the numbers that they gave me their replies were automatic so, not much help there either. What I ended up doing was emailing their customer service and all they told me was to fix the car as if it was mine because they did not have road side assistance. I then had to get a tow truck and take it to a shop so we can get a new tire, return the car and get to the airport. I saved the invoice for the new tire and returned the car. When I got the agency I told them what had happened and that they didn't help much. They told me that I just needed to email the invoice to their manager and that they would get back to me in 30-40 minutes of how I would get reimbursed. It has been a whole week and I still haven't heard anything back from them. I keep calling and emailing them, but I have still yet to get an answer from them. And now I am worried that I will not be able to get my $300 deposit back because they technically haven't closed my reservation. Do not rent with this company because even though they may be friendly, their customer service is not great.

This is my worst rental experience ever!! Looked like one of my only and most affordable Priceline bundle options for renting an economy car in Denver--for $63.31/day. But then there are a bunch of other charges, including being charged $33.99/day for THEIR car insurance ("Loss Damage Waiver") even though I specifically told the agent I had AAA insurance and did not want to be charged for their insurance (he changed the screen and it looked like I was "waiving" that payment). I then waited an hour on hold to talk to a rep who could do nothing to help or explain these additional charges--except to tell me that an additional security deposit that was a $188.96 pending charge would come off in "5-7 business days." It never did, so their economy car cost me what totaled to $202.57/day! What a rip off!! They LOOK like a decent standard car rental place when you are picking up your car, but they screw you every charge possible. And they don't even have phone numbers for the branches so you can speak to the managers who they say are the only ones with the power to reverse inappropriate charges. The agent told me I would have to go back to the Denver office IN PERSON to talk to a manager.

Hard to find pickup at airport, no organized line and small shuttles caused arguments on who was next. We finally got on the third shuttle after half an hour. Upon arrival off airport, lines were long, and the teaser rate backed up by high pressure sales for all sorts of add-ons. This is a business model built on attracting infrequent rental car users and squeezing them for extra fees, with no intention of receiving repeat business or creating any sort of brand loyalty. They were successful with me-will never use them again!

I would add that they take advantage of the fact that you are from out of state and "sell" you on all the toll roads you should prepay, which there were none. In addition they say that their gas is cheaper, which verbally they state a lower price. That said, when we returned our vehicle with over 1/4 tank of gas, they charged us for a full tank. Do business elsewhere as they are a shady business.

I travel often and this was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a rental car company. They are predatory and untruthful with their costs. In the end they added on so many extra fees that my cost was double the original quote. Run far away from this company.

Zero stars if I could. We were shuttled to get our rental. Charged $91 extra for toll and taxes. After paying a good amount and taxes. After traveling all day it wasn't worth the hassle. We paid and were on our way. We were given a Chevy Malibu with many dents and scratches. It's a rental, whatever. No one walked around the car with us. Drove 45 minutes towards Wyoming and after dinner we hit the interstate and the car was shaking and seemed like it was going to fall apart. Maybe the muffler under the car? I'm not sure but if was terrible. I called customer service and talk to a woman, told her what was going on and our only option was to turn around and return it where we got it from. The representative was condescending and rude. My husband hung up my call. I tried again to get someone I thought might help us because not everyone could be as unprofessional as Crystal. Well, got her again and she was like yep, I just talk to you, you hung up on me. I knew I wasn't getting anywhere and hung up. Basically, we're stuck with an over priced piece of crap car. Save you money, time and frustration and go to Avis or enterprise. NU sucks and so do their representatives. NEVER again.

booked through booking.com. got a great rate but when I tried to check in they told me the booking was for 2 days prior and wouldn't honor my reservation despite having cars available. my only option was to cancel and rebook at double the price. They "said" they would refund me, but instead have charged me and told me to go through rentalcars.com for the refund. rentalcars.com is refusing to refund me saying U cancelled me vs me canceling in advance and should be charged full amount. there were others at NU experiencing similar situations while I was there. And when the Uber picked us up he said that is a very common theme at NU Car rentals. I am reporting them to the BBB and hope others are doing the same. This is a scam they are make it a fortune off of. Either you pay for the original booking plus another one at double the cost to get a car or just lose the money up front and walk away with no car as I did.

This is a scam company that does a bait and switch technique. I thought the price was too good to be true. When I got to the counter to pick up my car I had prepaid for I was told all they have left is older model minivans. But for only $39 they could put me in a newer vehicle. So no brainer for just $39 I did it. Then I see on my invoice it was $39 per day when I had prepaid for a car for $29 per day. So now I am paying $68 per day when I could have gone to Enterprise or a more reputable company for less price. Then when I had a flat tire yesterday I called the customer support line and after waiting over an hour for someone to pick up the call I was told how to swap the tire for the spare and I needed to proceed to a local tire shop and buy a new tire for this car. Worst customer service I have ever heard of. If this was my wife and was stuck on the side of the road and had to deal with this. DO NOT EVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY

Warnings to those traveling late (especially of the female persuasion) and utilizing NU Car Rental at the Phoenix, AZ International Airport. Is a "economy car rental" really worth-it? What you don't know, is that the NU location is located some distance outside of Phx Intl Airport, right of the legendary (seedy)Van Buren Street. Following a ride to the "end of the line" of the Sky train, to the rent-a-car mall, you will find that NU car rental is not ...there. Noticing signs diverting you to a walk-way outside of the airport building, you will begin your short "hike" until you come to an elevator/stair case that will take you down to a lower outside level, cul-de-sac parking lot. There, you will likely find the NU car rental shuttle, or a short to 20 min or so wait for their return. After a zigging and zagging ride outside of the airport property in centralized Phoenix, destination: An "industrial" type area, in the evening that you will likely feel secluded, with the exception of fuel stations a 1/2 mile or so in two directions. Here a squat, stucco/adobe looking building of the Southwestern Architecture with a similar back-brick courtyard of vehicles parked, being prepped/detailed for the next ....patient customer....that arrives. Inside the building, it is clean, (with the exception of the restrooms), with a roped off line for the customer "line" that loops around to an partitioned office area that is partitioned off into, Six?..., standing work cubicles. No one was around....and after walking around the building and calling out (confusing/annoying some of the detailers in the back yard) a lone "clerk" appeared to help me with my reservation. I was very fatigued after nearly 12 hours of traveling, and having been through this procedure many times before with several other car rentals, I was up gently up-front that I was not interested in any upgrades or additional insurance, as my own car insurance covered rental's, collision and comprehensive liability. The young "gentleman-clerk" says "Sure", and proceeded to ask for my securing credit card and "sent me a text with a security code" to read back to him. Little alarms went off in my head.....something about scams on internet billing. I said "huh", and he gave me something about a security measure for my benefit. So, being that it is late (after 9pm), and a 3-hour drive ahead of me to the White Mountains, I shrugged it off. Then "Mr. Gentleman" flipped his screen halfway around to initial off my "declining additional insurance and waiving additional coverage". So, I swiped an quick few initials of the green print screen. "Mr. Gentleman" scratched what looked like duplicate data on a sheet of paper beside some formal print-off of the "Taxes and Fees", his handwriting included some "$300 deposit" and " $~260" rental charge. I said "Hey, I'm pretty sure I already paid for my rental on PriceLine.com" (Which was about $220), and he quickly retorted: "Yes Sir, this is simply a formality, and your deposit that will be refunded to you. I assigned you a Chevy Malibu, is that ok, I don't know if I have any more full size?" I said, "Sure, just so long as it is clean as runs well." Mr. Gentleman retorted; "Hey, allllll that matter is that is runs and gets you to where you want to go, right?" I was a little startled by this response, thought, well maybe he was joking.... with a straight face. I thanked him for his helped with God's blessing, got my key fob and care and off I went. The rental was clean, without visual damage. Ran well, except for r the fact it is a full-size sedan with a V-4 engine. Not a car to make risky accelerations through gaps in traffic, but hey, I'm getting old and not so-ina hurry. *At the end of it all, the return was simple, notice numerous emails being sent regarding copies of pics of return car condition and redundant copies of contract. Something bothered me, looking into I found that they returned my deposit; however, the $~260 was ADDED to my already paid $~220 rental fees. BOTTOM LINE: Mr. Gentleman directed me to initial the section for "Waiver of Liability" that goes on to describe your "waiving of liability of damage to the vehicle, and subsequent charges" (para -me) therefore, you pay them an extra $~25 a day to cover that. W O W. In a not so abbreviated story, the conclusion: I contested the deceptive validity of the wording on the contract, as well as the clerk ensuring me that the initialed areas were to decline additional coverage (as they generally do), and after being stone-walled and several pointed rebuttals, I was told simply; "No one was there to witness your interaction with the clerk, and you signed the contract, finito" (para-me). Hmmmmm, I wonder if clerks get bonuses for additional coverage.........? As a customer anywhere, I would like to point out that it is pretty sad customer "service": The consequences: $ thousands lost in customers diverted from using NU car. Word of mouth matters!

The absolute worst! Avoid at all cost. Do not be tempted by their low fair offers. Horrific customer service! When I rented my car, I informed them I may be expanding by a day or two. The agent was fine with that and provided me the number to call if I needed to extend my rental. When I called to extend, I was told I could not. Under any circumstances.. What??? I had to drive 90 minutes to return the car or be charged the nearly triple the day rate as a penalty if I chose to keep the car. No other solution available. Two different Customer Service reps hung up on me. Would not offer their supervisors name claiming that was " personal information". We drove and returned the car and then attempted to get another car for our additional days stay. only to find out that I had been blocked by Customer Service from future rentals. They hung up on me twice and they blocked me?? Never again! Do not under any circumstances, rent a car from this company! You will regret it in the end

Maybe I got lucky the two times I used NU, but the negative reviews seem to be from people who were not prepared. I got a good car at a great price and never was overcharged. I also had relatively reasonable waits for the shuttle all four trips to and from the airport. Make sure you - Confirm they take your car insurance or be prepared for the fee. Bring a printed copy if your policy. Take pictures before and after the return. Add an extra 30 minutes, just in case the shuttle may take a while. Con - you probably will wait a good 30 mins to get your car, possibly longer if it is peak times.

Avoid these shysters at all cost. Their service and FINAL pricing is terrible. They'll get you in door with a cheap rate up front and then pick your pocket by "upselling" you insurance and making threatening comments. If you ask questions or complain, they are rude as hell and simply don't care. Note: They don't run their own shuttles, they use some next door parking facility's shuttles, I recently almost missed my last flight out of Denver by literally one minute (I was last on the plane after running to the gate) after waiting 50 minutes for a shuttle back to the airport to catch my flight. Use another service, you'll end up paying the same amount after these guys are done w you.

The worse experience ever. I recently had a terrible experience with NU rental car Upon arrival, I had to wait two hours to pick up my car. When I finally got it, the car was malfunctioning and I had to wait another hour to get a replacement. To make matters worse, I was charged an extra $300 without my knowledge. I tried contacting customer service, but they ignored me. The agent, Anthony in the agent counter did not explain any additional charges or upgrades. I did not agree to any upgrade, yet I was still charged. This experience was extremely frustrating, and I feel taken advantage of. I will not be using NU Rental Car Company again and I recommend others to be cautious when dealing with them. DONT WAST YOUR TIME AND MONEY!

this company went thru multiple lawsuits for falsely claiming charges for car damage. I am wondering how they are still allowed to be in business doing illegal activities.

This company is the worst. We rented a car in Phoenix. First of all it is located very far from the airport. we did not get the car we had booked and had to return it since it had issues. We returned it with a full tank, yet they charged us $60 for gas. They charged for damage collision even though we clearly stated we didn't need any. Upon calling they had fraudulent pictures of the gas tank gage. They tricked my client into signing collision damage and had the worst attitude when we contacted customer service. Don't ever rent from them !!!!

Crooks We rented a car through Priceline to be picked up in Salt Lake City on July 5, 2024 Pick up seemed to go smoothly. The agent asked if we wanted insurance and we said we have our own policy that covers us on rentals. We said we want the rental and gas ONLY. He said fine I understand. I confirmed the rental and gas should be the only charge totaling approximately $210. He said correct. Then he had my husband initial a long list of items on an iPad. Husband said I don’t have my glasses (he is 71), rep said standard stuff just initial. Long line behind us so he quickly initialed. As you may be able to guess based on the other reviews, when we looked at the credit card statement there was an ADDITIONAL $200. charge. Called customer service and unfortunately got Michel. Unbelievable how rude he was. He said it was for a loss damage waiver. Huh?For $200.?? We did not request this nor were we informed we were being charged for it. Michel basically said too bad for you, your initials are there sucker. We got you. He said good luck getting your money back. Worst customer service representative I have ever spoken to in my life. He said he would send us a copy of the contract which he did not. No one stands and holds up a long line by reading the entire fine print to make sure something wasn’t slipped in. No one. The counter clerk should have let us know there would be an additional charge. He probably gets a spiff for adding insurance items. We are filing a complaint with the BBB as well as our credit card company and Priceline. Nu car rental will respond to this with their stock response to contact customer service. Don’t bother. Return my money or deal with the BBB. You are crooks plain and simple. Conf.#6750193119NU

If your flight is delayed, they will downgrade your rental, but still charge full price. I had prepaid for a premium 4x4 Jeep Wrangler. We were flying to Denver from Iowa, and when my flight was delayed, I called to let them know my new arrival time. When we arrived, they insisted that because I was 2 hours past the original arrival time, I would be given a Chevy Malibu (economy, and far cheaper than what I paid for) instead of a Jeep Wrangler 4x4, but would still have to pay the premium price, even though their commets clearly noted the new arriaval time I had called about. It's an airport car rental, I told them hours ahead of time of the flight delay, and it took a lot of arguing and time before they finally gave me the car I had paid for, which they had 4 versions of sitting right there. Very dissatisfied.

They have random charges after returning cars such as cleaning fee or claiming something is broken. It is not recommend. You may get a good deal for renting a car for a weekend less than 100 but they could charge you 1000 at the end.
