I Used M.A.T Weld and Fab to do some welding work on a commercial property. It went ok and I paid on completion of work. He then offered to supply some steels, and this is where it went wrong. I paid a deposit in good faith and the steels never turned up. He used several excuses, then didn't respond to communication. In the end I had to get another supplier, who delivered on time, as it was holding the work up. I really don't understand why someone would want to scam honest people out of hard earned money. I have since read the other reviews - unfortunately too late - as it appears he as done the same to other people. I really believe in karma, and I know this will come around at some point. In the meantime, I am taking legal action, so anyone out there thinking of using M.A.T welding, please think again!
Great service
Matt has been brilliant in making our new strutts to fill in a gap at the side of our gates.
He was excellent on price, very pleasant and came out promptly to measure up.
He then made the strutts quickly and soon came out to fix them.
Brilliant service, very impressed and definately worth a recommend.

AVOID TAKES LARGE DEPOSITS THEN DOESNT DELIVER
Took our money Ā£2500 in deposit in Juneā25 , never showed up to fit gate/ railings.
Persistently ignored, when asked for a refund became hostile and refused.
Since then has been attempting to ā playā with us.
Terrible that these people are out there with no morals.
We will get the money back eventually, avoid at all costs.

Scam Alert - avoid at all costs.
M.A.T Welding and Fabricating Services Ltd agreed to refurbish my metal gates and requested a large deposit which, against my better judgement but in good faith, I paid. Having failed to arrive on the agreed date he then decided to invent a disagreement and cancelled the job. Despite saying he would refund the deposit, and after my repeated requests, he has not done so. I suspect he never planned to and I can only therefore conclude he is a con man and fraudster! Research into his Companies House entry, including his addresses, reinforces that assumption!
I have informed the police and he is now on their action fraud database and I have also notified Trading Standards and HMRC. His bank has been notified and I am in the process of initiating a claim via the Small Claims Court.
I will not allow him to get away with this theft and I will do whatever it takes, and for as long as it takes, to recover the money. I write this review so others that might be considering using him are aware and to consider finding someone else. If you do decide to use this fraudster, be careful and do not pay anything up front.
In the British Army we live by certain values including respect for others (treating people with fairness, kindness and consideration) and integrity (being honest and trustworthy). These are traits this man clearly does not possess!
Scammer Avoid Takes large depositsā¦..
Matthew Andrew Thomas aka M.A.T is a scammer. As with another review on here ( suspect there are many more) he took a large deposit in June 2025 with a contract to fit within 4/6weeks, exactly like the other review , he never showed, avoided contact, when eventually after a personal visit from us he finally responded he got hostile and acted as though we were at fault! We asked for our deposit back, he refused saying heād made our ( gates/railings), he has neither returned our money nor delivered our goods after 5 months. He also owes money to a fellow tradesperson at the Shardlow site we have met . He has a sign on his premises with a threatening message. He also has an active strike off on Companies house and an incorrect address. He has used other peopleās money to secure a new workshop near Coalville and intends to fold the current ābusinessā so persons he has taken large deposits from will find it difficult to claim it back through the courts. As with Mr Reading, police being informed, trading standards, hmrc. We know of a similar situation where the person in question doing exactly the same got 7years at HM pleasure.
Should anyone else be suffering the same, please do make contact as we will be seeing this through to ensure reparations.

Mat I found was excellent, I had double gates made for the back of the house and a single gate at the front, we came to a decision on a design and Mat did a wonderful job, I am very pleased, also he charges reasonable prices another welder was going to charge me Ā£1000 more for the same job.
Anyway you can't go wrong with Mat, it may take a little while as he's very busy but its worth it.

Great service from Matt! I had a large RSJ delivered that wasn't to spec so it needed steel plate welding on both sides.
Matt ordered the steel plate for me and came to site to do the welding and got the job done in a day.
He left the site clean and tidy and painted the RSJ in red oxide paint, I would definitely recommend Matt and I will be using him again in the future.

I broke a tine on my tractor driven rotavator and then discovered replacements we no longer available. Thankfully I found Matt! Not the easiest thing to weld as it is cast but Matt sorted it out for me, it was back on the machine and working within 24 hours. I then asked him to repair a bit of longstanding damage on the machine which he came out and fixed on site. Again, the quality of the welding was excellent, a first class job.
I found Matt to be helpful and friendly and wonāt hesitate to call him next time I break something! I should also add that I thought his pricing was also very fair. So, if you need welding or fabrication work, I would 100% recommend you give him a try.
