The food was great, had it tonight for the first time. Only thing is, towards the end of my dish (okra soup with chicken) I find this paper with an aluminum backing (almost resembles like piece of a gum wrapper) not saying that’s what it is but it’s clearly not chicken or okra in my soup😂. I just wanna say food prep and chefs should be more cautious and careful of when preparing the food. I’m disappointed bc I was reallyyy enjoying my food and now I can’t even finish it bc of this discovery, it is soo unsafe. God Bless.❤️
Visited New York from Germany and discovered this African restaurant in Long Island. The food was absolutely incredible! Authentic flavors, perfectly seasoned dishes, and a clean, safe environment with excellent adherence to public health guidelines. Highly recommended, and I will definitely visit again!

Mercy, thanks for your patronage and support 🙌🏿👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
No way, its impossible how the food is pricy and they barely give you any meat, you got mix meat they barely put anything in the bowl. I had ocra soup and I was disgusted how they so stingy. Almost 35$ and I can barely see anything. Never going back the there.

Stingy? LT Love. First, thanks for your patronage. You are a little uncharitable with the truth here. Okra soup doesn’t cost anything close to $35 at Mama Philo’s. Our prices are determined by the cost at the commodity market. You can always request for meat at a cost if you want more meat.
I ordered the egusi with pounded yams. The first time it was good. I ordered the same again but it was spicy and yam was sticky. I don’t like spicy food at all. If it’s a dish that’s spicy then that’s okay but to make all the food spicy not good. I would love to order the egusi soup and pounded yam again but I’m afraid it will be too spicy.

Claudia, thanks for your patronage and support. We will continue to apply global best practices which sets us apart as one of the top restaurants on Long Island. Please, comeback again. 👏🏽👍🏽🙌🏿
So the food tastes good but why is my order BARELY filled with egusi? I took the two pieces of chicken out of the takeaway dish to show just how little was put in there. Second time ordering I just don’t understand why the dish would barely be filled with the egusi when that’s the MAIN thing.

First thing I’ll mention is that I’m Guyanese and have never tried African (Nigerian) cuisine, however I’ve been curious based on social media. I decided to see where in Long Island, can I find an establishment that had good ratings, so I went with Mama Philo’s. Spent some time reading reviews and also decided to call for suggestions, based on what I leaned towards and spoke to a gentleman who took the time to explain variations of their Egusi. I opted for the Egusi with goat meat and pounded yam, in addition to Jollof rice and it was absolutely delicious! Wonderful flavor profile and definitely has me thinking about what I’ll try next! The only constructive feedback that I called and personally gave, after leading with the positive, was the fact that the portion size, isn’t what I thought it would be, as there were about 3-4 pieces of goat meat, primarily bone and fat, but there were still a few pieces of actual meat that allowed me to fully enjoy the protein portion of the meal. As I explained, I don’t mind paying a higher price for the quality, but just didn’t expect the amount given the price point. I will say, when I did personally express the one slight discontent, the gentleman did respectfully explain that the cost of the African ingredients are not locally sourced, in addition to the fact that I can agree with produce cost increasing exponentially, so I can respect their position, even if I’m not in agreement!
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, despite the one negative. Great tasting cuisine!

Wao! Welcome home Guyanese sister. We appreciate your patronage and support. Thanks for your suggestions, and this beautiful “pontification” Your suggestions are noted. Thanks Shar🌺👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
They sent trash to me as food. I trashed the eba and the soup. The eba was like leftover food. I can never go to eat there again

I ordered egusi and fufu through delivery because I was craving it and boy did I miss it! I haven't ordered from mama philo's in a while and it really hit the spot for my cravings. They were the first place for me to try egusi and fufu for the first time over a year ago after watching so many mukbangs and I'm glad I like it because of them! Thank you for introducing me to African food!

Laura the African Queen. We are glad to read all your kind and encouraging remarks. Please comeback again
My first visit to Mama Philo ensured I made a repeat visit and now it’s a regular occurrence for me to visit the restaurant at least once a week. Why? Customer service and good food! Ifueko was totally outstanding and accommodating in the way she related with the customers. Thank you for showing a part of Africa that we don’t get to see in the US these days. Thank you Mama Philo! Thank you Ifueko! 🩶🩶🩶
