This gym went downhill ever since they renovated and made it smaller. Now there's a limited amount of cardio machines and it’s all clustered up together. I get anxious every time I come now, since there's usually no cardio machines available. There’s times when girls have to wait around for a cardio machine to become available. I can’t believe they took away the variety of cardio machines, there used to be the arc trainers, why can’t we get those machines back? Only having 4 types of cardio machines has been torture. They added a lot of identical weight machines downstairs, that barely anyone uses. Why can’t they put cardio machines downstairs, how it was before. Its also extremely uncomfortable having to do cardio with the entire public looking at us clearly. It makes no sense for it to be an all women's gym, if the entire public gets to look at us doing cardio. It’s also crazy how they increased my membership twice, once in 2025 and now 2026. I'm paying $40 to have no access to cardio machines and no privacy. I been coming to this gym for years, and ever since the renovations, I lost my motivation to come.I feel so miserable and anxious every time I come to the gym now. I also don't understand why they kept an elliptical machine that has a broken cup holder, they could've easily switch the cup holder. Most of the cardio machines tend to break down, they only put their focus on weight training machines. I don't understand how a gym that gets over 50 women at a time, only has 20 cardio machines, and its usually less than 20 machines, since most of them don't work.

Some of trainers and group classes are great. The gym itself is not that clean and it has certainly seen better days. Some of the employees at the reception desk are friendly, others are not and could use some training focused on improving their interpersonal skills.

It's a really nice small gym. I started going to the gym after it was remodeled and acquired by NYSC and I love it so far. The staff is really nice and personable. They really get to know their clients and recognize them when they come. The environment is nice and quiet which I never experienced at other gyms before. I honestly think the membership is worth it. You get free classes and a gym community. I can't speak for what it was like before being remodeled but I personally think they have enough machines for your average everyday gym goer. It's honestly a nice safe space to workout. The location is also very nice with many store to go to after your workout.

I am extremely upset and disappointed with how I was treated. I arrived two minutes late to a workout class due to a delayed bus. I politely explained this to the manager and asked to please be allowed in, especially since it was cold outside and we’re talking about two minutes, not ten. I was flatly refused with zero empathy. When I then calmly asked to be taken off the class, the manager canceled my entire membership on the spot without discussion. Her attitude was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. No attempt to de-escalate, no customer care—just hostility. After I left, I was suddenly called and begged to come back, which says everything. If you treat members this badly and then try to undo it later, that’s not professionalism—that’s poor management. What makes this even worse is that when I left an honest review on their website, they deleted most of it and only kept a small portion, clearly trying to control the narrative instead of taking accountability. Refusing paying members entry for being one or two minutes late is unreasonable and extreme. This is a workout class, not a border crossing. This is not Russia. People have lives, buses run late, and basic human understanding should exist. I’m glad this experience opened my eyes. I will not be returning, and I would strongly caution others who expect respect, flexibility, and basic decency.

Hi Alla, we are sorry to hear that you had trouble with class at Lucille. We do have a late policy that we abide by to keep everyone in class safe. We recommend arriving at least five minutes early to ensure there is enough time to get into class and get ready!

They were charging me for membership for months !! And then I called to cancel and the employee blamed me and tried to say it’s on me for not noticing sooner. They don’t care about the customer and it’s really not great. There’s a bunch of new gyms in the area and ClassPass is even better. I also see other horrible reviews on similar topics. I urge you to please not go here as a gym.

I'm a new member and I'm shocked at the horrible reviews. It's been a great gym so far, with great instructors, clean space, and working machines. I noticed they did lose space but it's still been okay with the space they do have. The other members I've interacted with have been kind and share resources. Hopefully my review does not change!

Lucille Roberts’ new class policy is honestly a mess. They tell members—especially the elderly—that if you arrive an hour early, you can get in if someone cancels. My mother follows this every time, yet the staff still refuse to let her in and speak to the older ladies very disrespectfully. It’s disappointing and unprofessional. Management really needs to fix the policy and train the staff on basic respect and customer service.

Hi Sajeda, we are sorry that your mother is having difficulty with signing up for class. We advise that members sign up for class on our app to ensure that they have a spot saved. Spots open 48 hours in advance of class.

I am writing to express my concern about an issue that occurred during a Zumba class. I arrived only one minute late, yet I was not allowed to enter the class. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing, especially considering the significant amount of money I pay for my membership in order to attend classes and maintain a consistent workout routine. In the past, members who arrived slightly late were still allowed in without any problems. However, it seems that suddenly a strict rule has been enforced requiring everyone to be there five minutes before class. I completely understand the importance of punctuality and class structure, but I also believe there should be a reasonable grace period, especially when instructors themselves are sometimes late. I hope this situation can be addressed, as it affects the overall experience and value of being a member.

Hi Michelle, thank you for your feedback. We do have a late policy for class to ensure we can keep everyone safe once the workout starts. We do recommend you arrive five minutes before class to avoid any chance of being late and not being able to participate.

I first started going when I was 20 yrs old back in 2016. I have since cancelled my membership a few weeks ago because it has become too small since renovations. I had no problem with the machines prior, now there’s more weight lighting stations downstairs. Nothing wrong with that, but they got rid of other machines I used prior. Plus reduced treadmills. Before there were more thread mills available. They should not have made renovations to reduce the space of the gym. It’s very crowded and crazy, so many people waiting for a ticket to the class in a small congested area where people are also working out. I miss the old gym layout and space. If they wanted to add new machines they should not have made the gym smaller. They have lots of members that pay monthly plus now they added new things like a return or late fee, so it’s hard to believe they truly needed to sell off or give up the additional space. I have no complaints as far as the staff everyone is always polite and helpful. Please , we need more space, or maybe you should have closed off allowing more members to join and cap it to a certain number. I do not suggest getting a membership strictly for the sauna use. Back in the day it was well kept and clean, now due to so many people and overcrowded, it’s just disgusting I don’t think so many people should be in a small sauna room together, is this hygienic? People still come in the sauna with their already used dirty clothes from working out or outside, they even keep their shoes on, the sauna has a smell, the high heat masks it a bit. I miss having the space to lay down and relax in the sauna now I’m huddled in a corner with about 5-6 other people on their phones (unsafe btw). I don’t believe it’s ethical, hygienic or safe to encourage people to join a gym that’s already so crowded.

EThe most disgusting gym I’ve ever been to. staff is untrained , unprofessional and overall just rude. EMPLOYEE SOPHIA IS especially RUDE and has nothing nice to say when speaking to the customers. No wonder this place is a mess. No r One even knows what they’re doing here. The machines are always broken. Place is a mess. Bathroom is gross and toilets look HORRIBLE. do not waste ur money for this junk place they need to be shut down. They do not listen nor care for their customers. As well as it being a women’s gym and there is OLD MEN using the WOMENS CHANGING ROOM and switching machines to go behind me when I’m trying to work out. DISGUSTING!

Update 10/17: after a year of going to LR, its renovations were a much needed addition. As another point to gym goers. Read the signage. Stop leaving your bags and jackets on the floor. The sauna is no phones or shoes, it’s rude and inconsiderate. Working out near the lockers should be avoided. Stop inconveniencing others and lacking situational awareness. I also hope the studio will eventually put in a stage so it’s easier for everyone to see the instructor from any part of the room. Update as of 12/14: this is not about the gym itself but the gym goers. Some folks really lack common sense and respect. First off, if you are late to a class you stay in the back, don’t try to find a spot closer to the front just because that”s “your spot,” when it’s rude but also now you’re blocking others so keep arms-width distance apart and stay in your space. Stop leaving your bags on the studio floors, there are signs everywhere and it’s a safety hazard. And take your phone calls out of the studio or away from where others are working out. If you take any equipment then you put the equipment back and clean up after yourself. You wipe the machine before and after, respect the space. If you are sick, do not come to the gym, you’re clearly contagious and that’s selfish of you. The bathrooms should be clean, flush the toilet and keep the stall and toilet clean. Stop bringing your phones or talking in the sauna when others are there, be respectful of the fact that there are others there too. Lockers should have locks on them, so we know it’s occupied but also to keep your items safe, you’re putting way too much faith in others to not steal from you. Quit blocking the doorways and stairs, this is for people to move in and out not for you to chat or use your phone. Lastly, quit hogging the machines, equipment and space. We all pay for our dues and should be mindful that this is a shared space. We are all adults and should show courtesy and respect to all. I’ve been to plenty of gyms from planet fitness to blink, to one of Groupon classes for boxing, expensive day pass classes and other classes across the city. I always thought LR was going to be super expensive. For $35 a month, I can take ALL the classes I want, access equipment that is NEVER HOGGED, change in a locker room, AND end my day in a sauna, while being in a comfortable space surrounded by amazing and respectful women. I’ll take it. I literally joined a week ago and have gone three times so far and absolutely love it. I feel better physically and mentally. I look forward to trying more classes and continuing my fitness journey, I hope others do too!

I can only say positives about Lucille's. Big change from several years ago. This time the front desk staff is wonderful and helpful. New equipment was installed a few months ago and is definitely a great addition. I don't take classes, but use the new treadmills and all new workout equipment in the basement. Some mentioned AC in the summer doesn't keep it cool, but they have giant fans in the basement to cool the area off. I've worked out at Title, Planet Fitness and New York Sports Club and couldn't work out in the summer because they were all so hot. That's how we wound up at Lucille's...the AC. Very happy here.

I have been a member on and off for several years.. since they lost part of the gym.. they have cut down the class size… The anxiety of being glue to your phone to register for class is overwhelming… All the instructors are amazing and deserve a 10/10. The manger is sweet and kind.. The gym is a little run down and unkept, but the instructors are the reason why people gravitate to that location. Just be warn their is a lady with curl black hair who is a member, who screams WEPA… yeahhh.. from the top of her lungs, that over powers the music and the instructors.. Even with ear plugs her voice is over powering… I guarantee you you will come out of that class annoyed or with a headache, and it takes away from the experience…
