The Railway Cottage is just as Kim describes. It's in a remarkable location, with views across in to the nature reserve (we could watch rabbits and birds from the kitchen) and within easy reach of Kingussie and Aviemore. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. There were a couple of things that didn't quite work as expected, but nothing was a big issue. While the cottage is dog friendly, it's worth noting that the fencing for the level crossing is not entirely secure, and there's no gate blocking the main road, so close supervision is needed outside.
Nice to not have any neighbours however very near by are 2 roads that are quite busy pretty much all day and night. Also the train line that runs right outside the house has trains running from 7am-11pm so no chances of an early night or a lay in, which I do feel is helpful information to know before booking. Not far from Aviemore which is a beautiful town and would definitely recommend visiting if you do stay at RC.

Thank you for your feedback, Siobhan. Railway Cottage’s location - including the nearby railway line and roads - is clearly shown in the listing name, description, map and photographs, which are provided to outline the setting and surroundings of the cottage. Many families enjoy the character of the location and the novelty of watching the trains pass by, as reflected in previous reviews. We were surprised by the lower ratings for cleanliness and value, as great care is taken with the preparation of the cottage and with helping guests get the most out of the local area during their stay. We also check in shortly after arrival to ensure everything is satisfactory and to give the opportunity to address any concerns promptly. We’re pleased you enjoyed visiting Aviemore and exploring the surrounding area.
Kim’s place was quiet and charming in the countryside. We loved looking out on cows and sheep grazing in the fields. The cottage was quaint and quirky - just my style. For some excitement, the trains whizzed by several times a day making the Railroad Cottage true to its name. We had a great stay.
This cottage was a perfect week away to explore the Cairngorms and Speyside from with our two dogs. Shown just like the photos and after awhile you get used to the train, earliest it came by was 6:20am and latest was 11pm. The dogs loved the big yard and getting to meet the cows next door. We ended up having so much fun we asked to extend our trip a day and Kim was kind enough to let us.
Beautiful little cottage tucked away off the A9. Close enough to easily explore the surrounding area but far enough away for a peaceful, private stay. Our 4 year old loved being right on the train line and watching the trains past. 5mins from Kingussie and about 15mins to Aviemore. Great cottage for a family stay. Would happily go back.
