Not at all what I thought
I have received a couple decent products but most of them are either the smallest size and don’t last longer than a week or are off putting in smell or texture. I received this as a gift and decided to try it out and the products that I have received are not good at all. Like others have said, they don’t follow your recommendations.
Expired, Used, Missing & Wrong Products
Back when Boxycharm was Boxycharm alone, it was awesome. The best beauty deal going.
But lately, and especially now after Ipsy took over I've gotten products expired more than a year (received Grown Alchemist facial scrub exp in 2023 that was opened (the GA co confirmed there's supposed to be a silver seal) AND there was a black hair under the flip cap lid!?
Over the past several months I've also received other expired products not to mention products missing from the order.
Points that are supposed to be awarded to my account for posting reviews haven't shown up.
Support is a mess.
It's great to get "close to expiry" products at 80% off, I'm cool with that. But not opened, used, hair on it products, that's disgusting and disappointing.
There are just too many other beauty boxes that don't do that to us for me to keep Ipsy.
I purchased Ipsy for a Christmas gift and have been totally scammed out of my money. On their website they advertise shipping to Canada and when I ordered I paid extra for Canadian shipping. When it came time for the gift to arrive my daughter got an email saying she was not eligible for the gift because we do not live in the US. I have been unable to get any refund or any response from customer service. Not only did I pay extra for shipping to Canada but I paid for several months subscription and have been scammed out of hundreds of dollars. This company is a joke!
I love the box, but their pricing has increased. I also like the IPSY shop. However, they charge a "handling fee" which is absurd because it takes up to 15 (business) days to get an order. My current order has been waiting for DHL or USPS to pick it up for two weeks (calendar days). I don't have a delivery estimate, etc. So... The sales are great but the shipping takes a month in my experience. Things I ordered two weeks ago are still in Kansas City, things I ordered three weeks ago don't have a delivery estimate. Their customer service (automated or email) is useless. Great products, but junk fees, poor customer service, and slow shipping makes me want to go elsewhere (e.g. ULTA was 5 days, Sephora was 3 days to get a delivery).
No email on HELP Center. BOT doesn't communicate well. If you forget your password, they give you 17 character crazy passwords that never work. Can't cancel if Can't log in and nobody to contact! Waiting to see if FB Messenger generates a response. The products are OK, but good luck trying to cancel or reach anybody. Wish I never signed up.
Ipsy is false advertising. They advertise that they offer products at discounted prices however nothing is in stock on their website. When I say nothing I mean absolutely not a single item out of hundreds of items. The last straw was when I realized I bought a razor from them that is exclusive to Ipsy only to realize that I could never order refills because again, nothing is in stock. Ever. Their customer service is also a joke.
I have been a loyal customer for over six years. In August I paused my BoxyCharm for September. Giving myself plenty of time to not be billed for the month. On the TENTH of September I was billed. I was told the items were on the way, and to send them back upon receipt. Considering I’m going to be curious, I looked and packaged it back up and mailed it back. It was nothing I wanted. Thirty days later I didn’t receive any refund or credit. I disputed with my bank. They denied it. Twice. I have more than enough supportive information to make my claim to be legitimate. Although the bank saw that Ipsy was charging me on the first or second of every month for years, they didn’t even consider the charge on the tenth. I sent it back and got NOTHING. I have received nothing but generic robotic messages from Ipsy. I’m outraged. I now have to fight it at the branch with the manager. The bank sided with ipsy's crappy business practices. Appalling.
Ipsy will charge your account for product that occurred before your membership even started. I opted in to the monthly glam bag and boxy charm and the quarterly Icon box. They charged me for the Icon box from the previous quarter for August, but I didn’t even join until September and I didn’t anticipate paying for the Icon box until the upcoming quarter in November. I reached out for help and to no surprise the response did not answer my questions as to why I was charged for something that occurred before my membership even began, without my authorization. I asked for the membership agreement where it discloses the requirement to purchase products from before my membership even began and the response was even less helpful. I was excited to try all the products but this has become a frustrating experience and I have cancelled and will be taking it up with my credit card now.
Beware
Be very careful when you sign up for Ipsy. I signed up 9 years ago. I thought that was enough. I called to cancel in July because my renewal came up in September. When I got my credit card statement they charged me another year. I spoke with my credit card company (American Express) there was nothing they could do. Ipsy is very sneaky how they don't allow you to cancel easily. Beware.
Subscription for Life with No Cancellation
I set this annual subscription for my step daughter when she was in middle school. She is an adult now. I have tried to cancel this subscription every year and there's no way to reach anyone by phone. If you can't log into your account there is no way to cancel the account. I have disputed this with my credit card every year and finally I just had to cancel my credit. This company is a fraud. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE BILLED FOR LIFE. RIDICULOUS!
I mean… I’ve had this for almost a decade now & I cancelled today. It used to be awesome. Today I literally received a useless brush, lotion, an ELF blush, & the tiniest bottle of primer. It was pathetic. Very, very disappointing - I recommend you cancel/do not try this out & instead spend your money on a few full size quality items. This added up over time & I think I threw out, gave away or never used 75% of it over the decade.
It’s a very frustrating service to use. In order to get full-size products that will actually last you a decent time, you have to get the bigger boxes. The more products and bigger the box, the more expensive. Then after a month or two you’ll notice they begin to send you a lot of the same products, And it’s almost always something you’ve given a previously low rating or simply doesn’t correlate with your beauty quiz results. There is no flexibility and often. If you reach out to customer service still do things like cancel your box without asking because their customer service can sometimes be a bit unhinged and unprofessional.
It's okay. Used to be better. I resubscribed recently and it definitely not what it used to be. Products are hit or miss. They do this lengthy survey before subscribing and I don't know why because they sent me wrong colors for make up. Also it would be nice if they send products relating to skin skin issues that you actually take time listing on your survey. I believe it's a very simple computer program that sorts this kind of thing and I shouldn't be getting products that are useless for me. In addition to that, there are far less products now than it used to be. Definitely doesn't feel like it's worth $14 anymore. If the next package turns out to be so disappointing I will cancel the membership.
I gave it a chance for over a year and I don't think my time as a subscriber was ever pleasant or "smooth". Many of the products I received didn't match the color preferences they asked me about in the sign-on survey, I kept receiving types of products I specifically requested NOT to receive, and almost every time I ordered something extra, it came broken and customer service (if you could get ahold of them) were more than reluctant to solve the problem - unable to offer me a replacement and only offering a refund for a product that CAME BROKEN if I insisted or threatened to dispute the charge with my credit card company. $14 is not expensive in and of itself, for this type of service; $14 for the goods/services IPSY provides is laughable. My final straw was when they charged me twice for an order and when I asked for it to be canceled or refunded, they said they would make a "one-time accommodation" for me as if the mistake was mine and not theirs. I canceled my subscription immediately after this - I cannot say one good thing about this company besides they are skilled at providing an underwhelming service at best.
I have been overcharged in access of $700++ Erroneous charges. No refund. To try to track a package, it says to contact the carrier, but the carrier has no data and also says to contact the merchant never-ending circle. Sent a gift to my sister to a different address - never arrived so I ordered another no credit ($75+) my account. Can't easily find customer service rep. When you do, they ask you to provide product information order number over and over again and it seems to me they should have that data. After reading similar either incompetent or deliberate. Do they hope get you so frustrated that you give up and not pursue getting remedy. It takes me over an hour to provide info. (at time sensitive). It is cearly a problem & a pattern. Yes one can unsubscribe but I am still trying to resove issues months after cancelling.
Sample products in full size box
I recently reactivated my subscription to give them another chance. I boyices a few of my boxy items were small when they were supposed to be full sized. When I checked the photos I realized some were the same size I would get in the glambag. I emailed back and forth, sent pictures as requested and eventually they decided to give me 100 points which still requires another purchase. It is a SCAM? They know the sizes of their products and the size of what they sent me so having me to gio back and forth was a farce. Service and the lie are why I'm canceling. The products were great but not worth getting them through ipsy.
