Worst Airline
This is one of the worst airlines that I have booked with. 1. They have the worst cabin luggage size policy. There is no cabin bag that fits the dimensions they use. 2. They do not mention details like No Food offered during flight for Economy (got an email 1 week before the flight about meal purchase options) 3. No headphones provided for screen viewing. 4. Not worth even as a low cost airline. Worst experience to book this flight! BEWARE! Do not book this airline ever!
Downgraded from Business Class / still awaiting refund (2 weeks so far)
My wife and I purchased Business Class tickets but were downgraded to Economy due to aircraft availability during tourist season. We were informed that we are entitled to a refund in accordance with Article 10 of Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 on air passenger rights: 50% of the ticket charge within Europe of more than 1500km. This is the second time this has happened to us on this trip, and we feel it has broken our trust. We understand these things happen occasionally; however, they should be an exception, not the norm. Had we known in advance that Business Class would not be available, we would have selected a different flight where Business Class was available. We did our due diligence and planned ahead (tickets were purchased in March), knowing the popularity of tourism to Iceland and because of personal physical disabilities. Sitting in an economy seat is extremely painful due to my restricted physical capabilities, which is the chief reason for purchasing the Business Class accommodations. While every staff member we have interacted with has been outstanding, the repeated downgrades could have had better customer service and are truly treating customers as numbers rather than people. The bottom line is that Business Class should only be advertised if guaranteed. On previous flights with Icelandair, we’ve had amazing experiences; however, this experience has left us wondering if we should fly with Icelandair again. We are left wondering if what we purchase will be followed through on. Finally, it has been two weeks since I filed my claim for a partial refund, and I still haven't seen anything. Again, If the flight used all economy seats and I paid for a business class seat, it is reasonable to assume my refund would be nearly instantaneous due to inventory (in other words, I paid more for something of less value). What are they doing with my money? This also happened on the first leg of my flight, but we received a refund within 48 hours. We still haven't seen anything on the return leg. Buyer beware...Icelandair treats its customers as numbers, as Iceland's chief means of income is tourism. They don't care about YOU; they care about your money.
Appalling
Having booked 3 Saga (Business Class) return tickets, I was surprised to learn, by checking the seats, so no warning from the airline, that my daughter who is travelling with her brother and mother, has been bumped off the flight from Seattle to Iceland. The original seats that had been pre-allocated changed with my wife and son not even sitting together. Oddly she still has her seat on the Iceland to London leg, which is of little use if she can't get to Iceland ! So after hours of trying to get through to them to find out what on-earth has happened, they said they had changed the plane to one with less Saga seating and hence she was not allocated a seat! They offered no explanation but saidd she would probably get on the flight in economy, but would not guarantee it and would not allocate a seat to her in economy! So right now my wife is faced with the prospect of having to arrive at checking with the chance she has to leave our daughter behind in Seattle airport, which she clearly cannot do. Despite my many protests at the insanity of the situation, they said that's just the way it is. I'm shocked at the appalling behaviour and attitude of the customer service with no waring. I would never consider flying with them again.

very poor service
Men nej.
Additional Baggage Fee
I booked my reservation on April 17, 2023 for travel 7 months down the road in November. This will be my 1st and probably last booking on Icelandair. I booked the flight myself on the Icelandair website. My goal was to pay for 1 additional bag on the outbound flight from Boston to Iceland, but I made a mistake. Immediately after confirming the booking on the website I received an e-mail detailing the booking. At that time, I noticed the additional bag fee of $55 was for the return flight from Iceland to Boston. I immediately called Icelandair customer service and explained to them that I made a mistake. They said "there is no way to book an extra bag on the outbound flight until checking in at the counter on the day of travel, since I am departing on a partner airline of Icelandair and no refund will be granted." I explained that I had made a mistake and am calling customer service hours after confirmation of the booking. The rep told me that I could write to their customer support about my issue, which I did. Their response "Thank you for contacting us, and choosing to fly Icelandair. Unfortunately, we are unable to fulfill your request as extra baggage purchases are non-transferable and non-refundable. The terms and conditions of baggage purchases can be reviewed below". It's not the $55 but the principle of the matter. I made a mistake and immediately contacted Icelandair about it and non-refundable is unacceptable. I even asked for a credit to be used on future travel or food stuff, but there was no acceptance by Icelandair. You should be ashamed Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO Icelandair. Play Airline looking better every day!
Relaxed

Nope
Awful customer service and experience. They nickel and dime you. The flight was cancelled. They wouldn’t release my spot to make other accomodations. I was then out hundreds of dollars for my hotel and missed tours. They ended up canceling the second flight too. Now it’s two weeks later, I have yet to receive a refund.you open a ticket to which they close saying it’s been refunded. I’ve replied twice saying it hasn’t. No response. I called and they can’t do anything or escalate it.
At the ticket counter while checking in, on September 13, 2022. I divulged I was having flu like symptoms and shouldn't expose everyone to a potentially fatal disease. They concurred and gave me a 1800 for the airlines to sort it out. Neither the airlines or third party agent will discuss so much as a voucher or credit for future travel. Gotogate and Visa has also been less than sympathetic.
I sat in seat 26F on flight FI205 from Copenhagen to Reykjavik on August 21st, 2022, and had what may have been the worst flight of my life. I don't think I have ever had such a poor experience--especially on an international flight. The air conditioning was wholly inadequate, so it was extremely hot (there were no vents at each seat). The tray table sat on my lap if I sat normally, and if I crossed my legs just right, so the tray wasn't on my lap, it angled down towards me and everything would slide off. Then, there was the head rest cover that was curled up on the two bottom corners. I had to take it off to get comfortable. Finally, there was no room for my small backpack under the seat in front of me. There was an obstruction that was different from all the other seats I could see.

Poor procedure from Reykjavik to Dublin. Gate only announced 30 minutes before. Then no staff or seating at gate. Then gate opened and we all stood on the ramp for 20 minutes before the put us on bus to plane. Now in Dublin waiting to check in. 1 agent checking in 100 people. Very disrespectful. So slow. Either they don’t care or are understaffed. Either way I’m overpaying for this weak service.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! We are with a family of 5 and they lost all our baggage with very very important medicine amoung other things and we have NO clothes other than what we came in on our trip. We are supposed to be here for two weeks and we have NOTHING!! No one answers the phones and the ones that do have no interest in helping what so ever. We were supposed to have updates within 24 hours and still nothing. It’s absolutely ridiculous and sad that they would treat people this way. No wonder they are in dept.
very bad service. We lost our baggage and no one helped us locate with multiple calls - they hanged up the phone. Very crappy. Finally when the line got connected after 5 days if calling thats the onyl time they started sending messages to the airport to check. DO NOT EVER USE THIS AIRLINE

The worst airline ever. The customer service is non-existent. The airline checked me in from Amsterdam with all documentation checked. In Reykjavik, the denied my boarding because they never saw NEXUS card as a valid ID to travel to US/Canada. In most airports the ground staffs are trying to help you out and the board services could give you a little headache. And you would expect the same in Iceland? No, you are so wrong. The passport control was actually very friendly and the airport staffs (or so call the security team without any uniform) behaved almost like Gestapos, ruthless. They actually try very hard to deny your boarding - they almost gave each other high-five when they actually denied my boarding.
Excellent prices for transatlantic flights. I’ve flown with Icelandair at least 3-4 times now, as I’m from the US and live in the UK. I love stopping in Iceland on a layover because it’s always a short, easy changeover with a chance to stretch your legs and grab a snack (and souvenirs) in the terminal. Service is basic but good, and the planes are comfortable and clean.
