Thank you. Would you remind me of when you were in for a class? I personally know all of our members. We are a small group based exercise program so it is very hard to hide in the corner. Many say the community accountability and decades of training expertise are the exact thing that separate us from the other fitness alternatives and create the want for folks to drive, run, walk, bike, and take public transportation out of their way to patron our establishment.

My guess is you are a member of a pro-bike lane group that thinks disparaging the expertise of businesses is a means to a specific end. I think this was sparked by a recent TRO that asked the DOT to demonstrate the appropriate safety surveys that were performed prior to initiating work. With that said, would you please show me where this business appears in those court proceedings because that would surprise me. Separately, the health of individuals is our passion and I would argue that there is nothing better mentally, physically or emotionally than participating in a strength training program at least 3-4x a week under the watchful eye of a professional.

I hadn’t given much thought to the bike lane discussion previously. I, like many in your group, like to think and truly hope that the public officials we elect to represent us have only the best intentions for all of our safety in mind in their decision making process. Unfortunately, I’m not sure that is always the case. Is it illegal to ride a bike in NYC without a helmet? Even if we put aside intent, life teaches us that not all things come in balance and increasing safety for one, may decrease it for another. I think it’s important that these decisions are only made after thoughtful discussion. We have morphed into a society that wants to quiet opposing views vs having an open dialogue with them. I believe this is just another attempt at silencing a view that may not 100% line up with yours. You have that right, but I prefer to live in a community that welcomes opposing opinions as that’s the only way to best move forward for the benefit of everyone.

I cannot think of a community or community board that doesn’t welcome small business as it is truly the fabric of a community’s ecosystem. Once the small business is gone, your community will be replaced by box restaurants, box stores and box gyms with less commitment to their neighbors.

Like I said previously, I have not given much thought to this until your group raised it to my attention. Now that I’ve had time to think about how this may impact the safety of staff and members it does feel that vision could be dramatically impaired when turning out of our street or our driveway. At the least cars would have to be across the proposed bike lane to have visibility to on coming traffic. I can’t imagine how this would impact a business that relies regularly on trucking the products the community needs, but maybe we can ask them. A few weeks ago there was an underground manhole fire right outside our business where the FDNY had to respond quickly and perform a building safety check. I’m curious if their response time would have been impacted by the new proposal, but maybe we can ask them.

I know it’s your hope to cancel our business, but what you will realize is that because of the community we built and the personal relationships and trust we have established since 2012, none of my members will leave because a stranger declared a boycott. Admittedly we are not the best at marketing, but maybe this extra attention will actually allow us to meet and serve even more members of our community in the future. Thank you for the review and exposure.

Joined this place nearly a year ago and am loving it. The instructors are great, the workouts are varied, and everyone is really friendly. I particularly appreciate how the instructors modify workouts to accommodate my old injuries. They know their stuff.

I nervously walked into this gym more than 6 years ago not knowing what to expect, and I was immediately welcomed by friendly coaches and members. This place helped me get stronger and healthier than ever! From the down to earth, attentive, and experienced coaches to the welcoming and supportive community of members, this place is where I spend my favorite hour of the day! Highly recommend!

I’ve been a member of Dutch Kills Fitness for 10 years, and it’s truly the best gym in Long Island City. The coaching, led by Dominick Fortino is top-tier, the programming is smart and challenging, and the variety—from CrossFit and strength training to strongman equipment—keeps things fresh. The facility is spacious, clean, and fully equipped, but what really sets DKF apart is the community. It’s welcoming, supportive, and genuinely feels like family. If you’re looking for results, great people, and a place you’ll actually want to keep coming back to—this is it.

I started my journey at Dutch Kills Fitness in December of 2018. As a former North East regional CrossFit athlete, I experienced a devastating injury (ACL tear) after my appearance on “NBC’s Titan Games” and was graciously received by Dominick Fortino at Dutch Kills Fitness, for his expertise in strength training. Under Dom’s guidance via prehab and post surgery rehab programming, not only did I return to the competitive realm of CrossFit, but I came back stronger and with improved movement/ technique. If not for this gym, the programming, and its strong community, I’m not sure I would have made the comeback that I did. I am forever grateful for this place, the people, and the relationships I have made here. Thank you Dutch Kills Fitness & Dominick Fortino, for bringing me back to fitness, keeping me strong, and for never giving up on me!!

I feel lucky to be a member at this gym. I have been lifting weights for almost 20 years and have never been stronger or had better form on my lifts. The workout programming and incredible coaches are what have allowed me to see these results. The community at this gym is also something special. Everyone is welcoming and nice and the gym regularly hosts social events and activities.

Dominick is one of a kind. He is the epitome of giving more than he takes. He is also unique in that he practices what he preaches. He will join the community six days a week, following his fitness program to understand the ebb and flow, when to crank it up, and when to turn it down. He cares immensely about the health of the community and thinks through every decision he makes with his members in mind. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of this about him. If you want a welcoming, caring, hard working community that is on the ride together, through the ups and downs, then this is the place for you. Regardless of experience level, give it a shot! I've been a supporter of Dutch Kills Fitness (DKF) for the last decade. Don't miss the opportunity to meet Dom, join the community he has built, and experience the DKF program. #GorillaGang
