My friend took me to Cross Road for my birthday brunch, and unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. We were the only two guests in the restaurant, yet the service felt disengaged from the moment we arrived. The server seemed uninterested—my friend asked for a hardcopy menu, and she looked reluctant to provide one.
I wasn’t interested in anything on the brunch menu and preferred something from the dinner menu. My friend mentioned she had been able to do so on a previous visit, but this time the server simply said no, without explanation or effort to accommodate. The lack of care was so evident that we ordered only one drink before deciding to leave. My friend even had to walk over to hand her the check because she spent most of our visit sitting in the corner on her phone.
What made matters worse was discovering an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill. It is absurd to charge a mandatory gratuity when the service is subpar. If staff receive guaranteed tips regardless of effort, where is the incentive to provide a good experience? That kind of system ensures bad service continues and, ultimately, drives businesses into decline.
I value customer service, ambiance, and food—especially from a location that isn’t highly visible or heavily trafficked. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, mine makes me hesitant to return. I noticed the business responds to low reviews with canned replies, but the issues clearly remain unaddressed.
To be fair, the drinks were excellent, and the food looked promising—but the chance to enjoy it was taken away by poor service. Nothing hurts a business faster than treating customers as an inconvenience.
I don't know where to begin everything was amazing and definitely worth the money. We pass this spot every night and kept saying we have to check it out and so glad we finally did. The lamb the steak and the shrimp was cooked to perfection super tender moist. Everything was great down to the server very respectful and on point with everything. This spot needs m ore love at its doors.
The food was great I went during food week. I had the salmon with garlic mash and broccoli. The meal also came with dessert and an appetizer. You can add a glass of wine for 5 dollars. For the appetizer I had the birria empanada my cousin had the island shrimp I believed it was called. The shrimp👍🏾👍, I wasn't crazy about the empanada. I would definitely revisit this place. Also the run punch definitely punches. Try it out.
Glad to have this new spot in our neighborhood.
Shared a light dinner with a couple of friends: Island Shrimp, Crab Cakes, Birria Empanadas, Mac&Cheese, Jerk Pork entree. The food is described as "Caribbean influenced" and I would say thats accurate. More important is that it tasted good. Crab cakes were nicely done with a hint of curry. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and had a really tasty sauce. Mac&cheese was a surprise fave. Empanadas were tasty but not as good as what you would get at a South American place. The jerk pork was tender and delish but only had a hint of that signature jerk seasoning. To round it off, my friends had the Rum Punch- they both ordered second rounds. I had a ginger mocktail that was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Father's Day--The vibe was classy. However, it was highlighted to the server at the beginning of the meal that I was a vegetarian and I ordered the vegetable empanada. Unfortunately, I was served a chicken empanada. The waitress did nothing to comp such a huge error. Serving meat to a vegetarian that put you on notice about their dietary restrictions is a cardinal sin. In fact the gratuity was forced, which i believe should be disclaimed at the outset of the meal. The waitress seemed indifferent overall and maybe it was because her tip was guaranteed. Aside from the service indifference and the food error the food that was meatless was delicious.
This is an amazing Carribian Restaurant, a true jewel. Food was amazing. Some spicy dishes can be requested for milder spice (less spice) option. Waiter provided amazing and fast service. Very professional and provided alot of useful information on beverage options, too.
I' ll recommend this restaurant to all my family and friends for lunch and dinner.
A must to experience. Your taste buds will love you.
