After the sudden loss of our father, this community where my mom lives has been an incredible source of comfort for our family. The staff are compassionate, attentive, and truly feel like an extension of our family. The community is warm and welcoming, and the activities bring joy and connection to each day. I’m especially grateful for Karen, Amber, Melissa and Pam in activities, and Aileen, who takes such great care of my mom’s room and truly all the staff-so many to name! We are so thankful knowing she is surrounded by such a caring and supportive team.

My dad has been at Columbia Cottage for 2 years. It was a hard emotional decision to move him from his home. Everyone at Columbia has been very supportive. I spend a lot of time there. I see how the directors and staff interact and truly care for the residents. My dad is cared for and treated well. I need to have that comfort level to sleep at night. Is everything perfect everyday? Of course not. But Karen and Amber are always available to talk with me and resolve any concerns. My dad recently moved into memory care. He's doing really well. Hes participating in more activities. Loves the ice cream socials! Tracy and staff work hard to keep residents active and engaged. I'm glad we chose Columbia Cottage Linglestown to care for my dad.

The experience I witnessed at this assisted living is not a place I would refer anyone to. I was there as an agency to care for a resident. The family was degraded by the Director so loud to the staff that as I was signing in at the lobby I heard her from the office they were in. The patient would go hours without being checked and with multiple issues of neglect the family had a camera placed in the room. Well that proved daily the patient would be left for hours without being any staff checking him. The family was the best for advocating for their loved one which turned into them getting an eviction notice along with a few other residents who had a camera placed in the rooms of their family members. Staff even encourage families to have cameras due to them knowing how some residents are being treated and the lack of care. Don’t get me wrong the facility is beautiful and they will give you a great sales pitch but that is was people in sales do. If you are going to be an advocate for your loved one be prepared to be evicted with the excuse that your loved one needs more care than they can provide. Part of the sales pitch is they can provide multiple levels of care but that won’t be the case if you stay on top of the care that needs provided. Maybe another location would be better but as long as they have a certain director at this location it won’t be good for anyone.

If I could give Columbia Cottage 10 stars, I would. The Cottage has such a warm, home-like atmosphere. It looks clean, decorated nicely and the people there are very friendly. From the residents to the staff, everyone greets you with a smile! It’s always a pleasure to visit!

This was the best decision my brother and I made for our mother. She is healthier and happy to be part of the “family” at Columbia Cottage. She has adjusted to not being in her home and she can’t say enough about the delicious food she has at every meal. Kudos to Noreen and Robin for the caring atmosphere you feel when you visit your lived one.

We are very proud of the leadership at Wyomissing and trust that you'll continue to receive quality service from Noreen and Robin. Thank you again!

I have a close family member who is in residence at Columbia Cottage Linglestown. After extensive evaluation of alternatives for our family member, we concluded that Columbia Cottage was the absolute best facility in the Harrisburg area for our family member. And we have not been disappointed! The staff is kind, responsive and caring. The residents have deep bonds and are supportive of each other. There are tons of activities that are constantly available and the rehabilitation facility and staff are top notch. And leadership (especially Amber) have been very responsive to our family member’s needs. She listens and cares deeply about the residents. I recognize that each situation is specific to the individual and family’s needs but we feel that Columbia Cottage has been a fantastic facility and community for our situation. Highly recommended!

This place is amazing. My family moved in this year and it has been everything and more. The staff are so caring. Karen and Amber have always taken the time to make sure things get done. Nothing is perfect, but you can tell they genuinely care about the residents. Could not be more pleased!

My sister and I toured seven memory care facilities before choosing Columbia Cottage in Linglestown for our mom, who was leaving the home she lived in for 51 years. We had no prior experience but did our research and believed this was the best choice. We regret that decision. Care was acceptable at first, when there were only seven residents. We were told staffing was based on residents’ needs—not census—and that our mom could age in place. As the unit filled to capacity, staffing did not increase. Management claimed they were already staffed for future residents, which is impossible when residents’ needs are unknown. Amenities such as the spa, ice cream parlor, country store, and activities calendar were largely for show. The spa was never used, the ice cream parlor rarely stocked, the country store never open, and activities were inconsistent. Most evenings, residents were simply placed in front of a TV. We were told laundry was done one resident at a time and clothing would not need labeling, yet items routinely went missing and unfamiliar clothing appeared in mom’s room. We were also told after move-in that we were responsible for washing her bedspread due to inadequate machines, which frequently broke down. At times, there was no nurse on site. Medications were administered by “Med Techs,” some of whom were not CNAs. Mom had PRN meds for if she would catch a cold but she was unable to ask for the meds herself. My sister or I would have to request the meds be administered. Despite paying for two-assist care, mom was often not showered. Due to inadequate staffing, my sister and I frequently had to bathe her ourselves. As mom declined and could no longer feed herself, one of us was present daily to ensure she ate at least one meal. We witnessed staff removing untouched meals after asking residents if they were finished—questions many residents could not comprehend. Mom was frequently left in wet or soiled briefs despite a two-hour change policy. On multiple occasions, she was not checked or changed during several hours of our visits. Concerns were repeatedly brought to management and always met with “we will re-educate the staff,” yet nothing improved. We chose this facility to avoid multiple transitions, knowing routine changes often cause decline in dementia patients. Unfortunately, the level of care promised was not delivered. When we decided to move mom to another facility, it was because WE chose to place her in a facility that provided a higher level of care so we didn't have to move her a third time at a later date and risk another decline. Please think twice before placing your loved one in this facility.

Thank you for your feedback. We do work very hard to accommodate the needs of all our residents. At times, they do go beyond what Memory Care and Assisted Living can accommodate, and we are required to request that families find a higher level of care.

My best friend was a resident in memory care for two and a half years. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. It was heartbreaking seeing the lack of care and inadequate treatment she received from some of the untrained aides. There were a few staffers that truly cared about the residents, but for the most part, the other employees took the job for a paycheck. They had no compassion, kindness or understanding of the needs of memory patients. Being placed in front of the TV hour after hour is not an "activity". It was easy to just place them in a tiny room unsupervised at times. All the promises my friend's family were given never were kept. Even personal hygiene was lacking. I am so relieved to know that my best friend was moved to another facility which is giving her the care she deserves. Thank God other places do exist for special need individuals. Please think twice before placing a loved one in Columbia Cottage. I gave it one star because the outside of the building looks nice. It ends at the door.

Beware. This place is awful. From they way the operate to the food they serve. The 2 stars are 1 for each nice aides. Yep that’s just 2. Weekends no nurse on staff no maintenance ppl in the building. If there’s a fire pray that your loved one is cared for bc there’s not enough staff to save everyone.

They don’t help to feed the residence. They let them sit and soiled briefs. And they are rude to the residence.

This facility was acceptable when it first opened. My mother was placed in memory care in 2023, but over the years the quality of staffing steadily declined. My mom was nonverbal and unable to advocate for herself, so my sister and I had to be at the facility daily just to ensure she was fed at least one meal a day. While a few staff members would help feed residents, we witnessed far too many occasions where full plates of food were taken away from residents who clearly needed assistance. We frequently found my mother in soiled diapers, soaked through her clothing. There was a video camera (no audio) in her room, and staff were supposed to check on her every two hours, but this did not happen consistently. The activity calendar posted on the wall is merely for show; meaningful engagement rarely occurred. Residents whose families advocated for their loved ones were evicted. The on-site ice cream parlor is also for show—there was rarely any ice cream available. I personally was asked and purchased ice cream from Giant for an entire year so my mother could take her medication, only to have staff eat it and share it with other residents. There were a few staff members who genuinely cared for the residents, but they were the exception rather than the rule. We paid over $10,000 a month for my mother’s care and ultimately moved her out in December 2025. I truly wish I had done so sooner. If you choose to place your loved one here, I strongly recommend installing a camera(no sound) and closely monitoring medications. When my mother was admitted, she was so heavily medicated that we had to take her to the hospital to return her to her baseline and remove her from the excessive cocktail of drugs she had been placed on. While the facility is aesthetically pleasing, I would recommend seeking out a nonprofit option. This place appears to be focused on profit rather than the best interests of its residents.

My mother resides in Columbia Cottage. My mother attends activities, has made new friends, interacts with the caring staff. My mother was at another facility prior and then moved to Columbia Cottage. The resident census is low with staff know and truly care for their residents. I'm comfortable with my mother residing here. This facility is like no other ALF. Thank you all Columbia Cottage staff for all you do. Monica Hoffman
