Sold a boat that had a major issue when collected. They denied any responsibility and refused to do anything about it. Very poor service. Need to go through court to resolve

Thanks for your review. I feel it only fair that we have the opportunity to defend ourselves in this open forum.
The boat you bought was for sale on a brokerage basis. As you are aware, a brokerage boat is one where it is owned by a third party (rather like a house sale) and we, the brokers are acting as agents in the sale. The buyer is welcome to have any inspection, survey etc carried that the buyer chooses - at their expense.
You decided to purchase the vessel on an unconditional basis, meaning you declined the opportunity to have the vessel inspected, surveyed or sea trialed. You were given as much time as you wanted to inspect the vessel prior to completion and upon satisfying yourself with the condition you went into our Port Solent office and signed the acceptance and completion paperwork. Upon your return to the vessel around 2 weeks later, you found there was a large fishing net entangled on the propeller.
Obviously had you elected to have the boat inspected out if the water then this may have been noticed, unfortunately as you chose to not have any inspections carried out it was not noticed by you, us or anyone else.
Whilst we are always happy to help our clients as far as possible, and support them in their boat ownership experience, it is very hard to do so when a client chooses to purchase a boat without any form of formal survey or engineer's inspection that would safeguard against issues such as this.

Completed Wednesday on my new boat purchase with Clipper Marine. I was absolutely green when I walked into do the first viewing 6 weeks ago, Mark (O) kindly walked me through all of the main things to consider in a new boat purchase, then helped me along the way able to support with contacts and recommendations to get things set up for day one.
The whole buying process was quite nice actually, personal, tailored to my requirements yet professional. There were speedy turnaround times on queries and email responses (I had loads), Mark was always around and availible to show me the boat I was interested in (I had lots of viewings, often at short notice). It was a really robust due diligence process for transfer of ownership (with a straight forward explanation of each stage) which ultimately led to ownership of a boat I am really pleased with. Would most definitely recommend Mark O and Clipper Marine again.

When considering purchasing a yacht it inevitably leads to a large financial outlay.With this in mind when the search for the "dream" starts finding a yacht that fits. It is often easier finding the yacht than finding a broker that fits. I cannot say a big enough thank you to Steve and Will at clipper .They not only had the yacht, the professional friendly way they undertook the entire process was confidence building and always felt completely trustworthy. They balanced the buyer and vendors needs fairly.
I must of asked a hundred questions and everyone was answered honestly!
My recommendation is 5 stars, the service provided ended up with me now owning a Hanse 385 and being absolutely delighted to now have many happy days sailing ahead of me.
Buying a yacht cloud be argued a not so sensible idea, but it if like me you chase your dreams then Clipper Marine helped make them become a reality.
