I stayed at CheapSleep Hostel Helsinki and I am seriously disappointed about the lockers. The lockers are a complete scam. Anyone can open any locker without a personal key. That means I can open other people’s lockers and anyone can open mine. The staff knows this and the hostel knows this. That is exactly why they write in big bold letters that they are not responsible for anything inside the lockers. Instead of fixing the problem, they just avoid responsibility. This is not acceptable for any hostel.
At the very least they should give guests the option to use their own lock like most hostels do, but they do nothing. Security should be basic, not optional.
To be fair, the hostel itself is otherwise good. The breakfast is good for the price. The kitchen and toilets are above average and well maintained. For sleeping, it is fine.
The location is a bit far from the city center, but you can still reach it by public transport, so that is not a big issue.
Overall, this place could be much better, but the locker situation ruins it. A hostel that cannot protect guests’ belongings and refuses to improve something so simple does not deserve trust. I would not stay here again unless they fix the lockers.
