This was right out of a mid century story book. Amazing accommodations for being thousands of years old. The food was off the charts amazing and totally made with Love. Every single person I encountered was just lovely. Extra special attention to Guy. He made me feel so at home and completely taken care of. I cannot wait to go back to this lil’ dream land in the countryside.
Avoid at all costs – Nightmare stay at Charney Manor
Charnor Manor is located in a completely remote area, deep in the countryside. The outside might look charming at first glance, but looks good from afar, but far from good.
The entire property is old and in poor condition. The interior is dirty, and the rooms were not even cleaned before our arrival. I stopped counting spiders after spotting more than 20 in our room.
I went to complain at the front desk. The staff appeared to take the issue seriously and said they would send a “cleaning specialist”. When she arrived, she introduced herself – ironically – as “the spider specialist”, which says a lot. She began knocking spiders off the ceiling with a feather duster – right into my open suitcase.
At that point, it was simply too much. We decided to leave immediately.
At the front desk, the staff were rude and dismissive, offering a refund without acknowledging any fault. They claimed the cleaning attempt was sufficient, which is utterly unacceptable.
I strongly advise against staying at this place. There’s no hygiene, no professionalism, and no concern whatsoever for guest comfort. The bare minimum – cleanliness – is not even guaranteed.

We had a wonderful time at Charney Manor - location was great, rooms were practical but comfortable and the availability of many “common” areas (library, sitting room, TV area etc) meant we could relax in the evening
The countryside here is beautiful and it was so lovely to walk around the neighbourhood. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast surpassed expectations for a continental - so much choice and all very fresh!
All-in-all (with no hidden charges for WiFi, breakfast or car parking) it was a very pleasant AND budget friendly hub to explore the surrounding areas (Oxford, Blenheim, many Cotswold villages)
After a visit to Oxford we wanted somewhere peaceful. Having read the reviews we figured it wasn't surrounded by pubs and restaurants so we packed a picnic. A perfect stay, amazing historic building, beautiful grounds with picnic areas in a quiet little village. Friendly, helpful staff.

Really noisy, very thin walls, neighbours coming in late, thumping and shouting. My 'private bathroom' is an uninviting box down the hall, not, as I expected, in my room. No double glazing, would be cold in winter, but doubly glad I brought earplugs as I had to open the windows to make the room less stuffy. Tiny room, useless pillows, again, glad I brought my own. Wish I'd paid half the price and got a nice big ensuite at a generic chain, at least the bed would have been good and the room quiet.

Beautiful house, many beautiful aspects especially the mediaeval Solar room. The garden is very well kept. If you are staying as a retreat guest the meals are excellent, the chef has received training to cater for vegan/vegetarians and does an excellent job. The accomodation rooms have good beds, are kept clean and have ensuite facilities. However there are no frills
