Such a great spot! Alan (the owner) built the concrete dome houses himself using an inflatable balloon, creating a really special place. Awesome pool with ocean views; comfy beds; cool rooms with fans; wifi available; friendly host; option to add meals (including tasty granola and local greek yogurt for breakfast); and airport runs. Really close (600m walk) to cafes, bars, and dive shops. Can't recommend this place enough. I wish I could have stayed longer!
Bula Emily! Great to have you stay. Thanks for choosing us! The domes are a unique experience - perfect for Fiji. Safe travels!

If you're looking to spend some time on Taveuni, I'd highly recommend you check out Camp Taveuni. Hosts Allen and Mary were great. They made sure I was comfortable and even helped organise a taxi for me to visit the Bouma and Lavena falls.
The Place itself is really lovely - well maintained and clean! It's easily accessible from the airport and walking distance to the few restaurants in Matei. You'd be hard pressed to find a better valued stay on the island. Camp Taveuni offers dorms as well as single/double occupancy rooms. I stayed in the private room and it was great! Nothing fancy, a queen sized bed, a table with a few drawers and a fan to keep you cool. You don't need much more when you're here and living the island life. They also have a nice pool if you want to take a dip. The beach is a 10 minute walk from your room and you have a nice view of the ocean from the common area.
They also have to cutest dogs (Xena and Zoe) and the sweetest cat (Miley). If, like me, you're missing your pets while you're traveling, having the cat and dogs around definitely helped! Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Allen and Mary really made my trip to Taveuni special! It was great getting to know them and I'd highly recommend checking out Camp Taveuni!
Vinaka Mary and Allen!
Thank you for the review, and for sharing the great pictures you took while you were here. Safe travels ... and clear skies! Vinaka

We stayed at Camp Taveuni for 4 nights of our 9 day trip to Fiji. Taveui Island and Camp Taveuni were definitely the highlight of our trip. Loved the island, very pretty, layed back and quiet. Camp Taveuni was great value for money, we were looking for budget accomodation and Camp Taveuni was clean, comfortable, well kept, beautiful outlook and felt safe, secure and homely. The owner Allen was extremely friendly and helpful with organising activities for our stay. We also enjoyed our chats with Allen about the island and the fabulous educational work he is doing with children. I wish we had stayed longer on this Island. Thank you Allen for making our stay so enjoyable!
Bula, great to hear Camp Taveuni helped make Taveuni the highlight of your trip to Fiji. Thanks for the review, it was a pleasure to have you stay, safe travels. Camp Taveuni

Since the booking from Camp Taveuni was not cancelable, I stayed in both there and Maravu lodge, and was able to properly compare those two. I stayed in dorms both. They are 100 m away from each other.
- Maravu lodge has hot water and AC in the dorms, camp Taveuni does not
- Camp taveuni is more inside on a dirty road every time you go there you have to deal with 3 aggressive dogs from neighbor attacking you
- Maravu lodge has kava ceremonies at night with guitar by local Fijian people, camp taveuni plays english music from a small speaker and Alan (expat owner) constantly asks you whether you want a drink, tour, or food in front of others.
- Maravu lodge is bigger, has more people, lively meeting area where people freely roam and better internet connection
- Mosquitoes eat you alive in Camp Taveuni
- I asked for a knife to eat papaya in common area, later Alan comes and rebukes the employee who gave me the knife. Apparently we are not entitled to eat papaya in common area. He also booked wrong day for diving for my friend in the dorm. She missed diving the highlight of Fiji (the great white wall) since it can only be dived 2 days a month due to currents. No apologies given. There were many other cases only in 2 days time.
I also recommend the owner to buy cats in addition to the shepherd dogs to deal with the rats problem.
I would rather stay in a place with local character not managed by despotic owners and much better hygiene.
Bula,
While we appreciate this is your opinion, you did not indicate any concerns during your actual stay with us. We are very open to constructive input on how we can improve the experience for guests and ensure safety for all – we believe in this instance we focused on providing a safe environment for our female guests.
You are fully aware your behaviour on returning to Camp Taveuni in the evening following your check-out required us to report you to booking.com. As you had completed your stay with us and you were found in areas reserved for guests, our concern for the safety and enjoyment for all guests and staff was so high you were asked to leave the premises as you had completed your stay with us.
Any option to have cancelled your booking rests within the policies of booking.com and are available for all guests at booking.
Vinaka, we trust you enjoy safe travels.

Short version:
A unique place built with soul. A wonderful place to stay in Taveuni - away from the big resorts, embedded in nature with a wonderful view. Clean, safe, eco-friendly, with lots of things to do. The owner Allen is an amazing guy, very communicative and helpful.
Long version:
Camp Taveuni was our base camp for 9 nights in October 2023. It gave us an unparalleled experience. Originally we planned only 5 nights, but we felt home away from home so we decided to stay longer.
* Location
5 Minutes drive from the airport - Allen picked us up and dropped us off without hesitation. There is one dive-center in walking distance. The dive-center we chose (because they highly value safety standards) is approximately 15' by car - the dive-center will transfer you for free from just down the road (5') of Camp Taveuni. There are at least two good restaurants in walking distance.
* Accomodation
We booked the large Bure with the privat bathroom. It was very clean, cozy and spacious - there is a sofa, two armchairs, a table and 4 chairs as well as a wardrobe. There are also other valuable options, so as a small bure with a bunkbed and a private bathroom. Large domes (as dorms) and small dorms (with double bed), both with shared bathroom.
* Hygiene
Everything was flawlessly clean, the tap water is totally safe to drink. There is only cold water available but who cares - it's hot anyway. You will meet insects and geckos but that is only logical because you are surrounded by lush nature.
* Food
The owner cooks very well! Give it a try! You won't stay hungry, the food is highly recommended. If you feel like going out - there are at least two restaurants in walking distance.
* Programs available (to name a few):
If you have time, you can easily spent some days just chilling around in Camp Taveuni, having fun (and a couple of beers) at the pool. Take your time to relax. For programs outside Camp Taveuni Allen is very helpful and organized everything for us - from driver to reservation at the dive-center. Possible program:
- Diving/snorkeling at the Rainbow Reef is a must. We have never seen such a rich coral reef before.
- The Lavena Coastal Walk and the 3 Tavoro Waterfalls can be combined into a single day trip.
- The water slides are also reachable by a quick car ride.
- Kayaking to your own secluded island! Don't miss it.
* Security:
The two guard dogs Xena and Zoe are perfectly trained and keep you safe! Allen is also on site 24/7. You can easily walk around after dark (in the Matei-area) - there were no issues. Safe for female solo travellers too.
* Owner:
Allen is a well-travelled, intelligent and warmhearted person, who built everything on his property on his own with love and lots of work. He really is such a nice person with good values! Our best evenings were spent in his company, sitting by the fire, talking until late. Just tell him, if you need anything - he gives you a solution or tells clearly, if it is not in his power to achieve something.
Thank you for the review David, it was a pleasure to host you and Barbara and share the experience of Taveuni. Travel well.

Me & my partner stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it! We had a double dome with shared bathroom, the facilities are all clean and lovely, the dome has a bed and cabinet, it’s not massive in there but we loved it, it’s cosy & quirky! Alan was a wonderful host, he’s super chilled and works his kitchen to suit you which is great, the food provided was lovely & he always kept the fridge stocked with beers too! The pool is lovely & deep with a beautiful view of the ocean! We could have easily stayed here longer it was so peaceful! His dogs Zena & Zoe are so cute too! I can’t thank Alan and his lovely staff enough for our stay here, it was perfect & great value for money! There is the option for a bbq and a fire pit which we did, id definitely suggest you do this, we had a few beers around the fire pit topped off with some great bbq food!
