Absolute hidden gem. We found this wonderful restaurant completely by accident this afternoon, and booked a table on seeing the menu.
The atmosphere on our return was fantastic, beautifully presented restaurant and we were welcomed by the friendly and attentive team.
Food and wine choices were advised by our knowledgeable waitress, and the owners made sure that we were comfortable and happy.
Food was absolutely unbelievable. I expect that it would have been difficult to make a bad choice, but I will go on record as this having been the best fillet steak that I have ever had. Similar recommendations around the table for the prawns and the carpetbagger chicken (phenomenal combination - well worth a look!)
Suffice it to say, when we return to Hermanus, we will make a visit here an absolute priority. Guys, keep doing what you're doing!

Wir waren gestern Abend dort Fisch essen. Die Qualität entsprach nicht dem Preis. Neben unseren Tisch wurde eine russische Reisegruppe mit 14 Personen platziert. Die Chefin bemühte sich nur noch um diese Gäste. Unsere Speisen wurden immer weiter zu uns geschoben, damit die anderen Gäste mehr Platz hatten um zu trinken ihren Plätzen zu gelangen. Es hätte nicht viel gefehlt, und ich hätte das Essen auf dem Schoß gehabt! Sehr unfreundliche Geste. Wir waren auch zahlende Gäste!
The restaurant appeared promising at first glance, with inviting signage and positive reviews, but unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The crumbed calamari lacked seasoning and flavor, while the crispy halloumi was served with vegetables in an overly sweet and sour sauce that did not complement the dish. The médaillon steak was well-prepared and enjoyable, but the accompanying sides and sauces seemed store-bought and lacked freshness. Considering the overall quality, the pricing was high. It’s a pity, as the place was pleasant and the staff were genuinely welcoming.

Very nice restaurant with a good wine menu and interesting interior
We went here for a late lunch Very nice and cozy restaurant. The interior is really worth a look. Good food. friendly staff and especially the wine is fantastic. I's a must if you are out for a good and family-owned restaurant.
Kann leider das Niveau nicht halten! Eigentlich ist das Restaurant Café 1904 eines unserer Lieblingsrestaurants in Hermanus, doch leider war unser Besuch dieses Mal leider nur unteres Mittelmaß. Der Service war für Südafrika eher schlecht und extrem langwierig, die bestellten Sirloin-Steaks (einmal normal, sowie 40 Tage gereift) hatten zwar eine sehr gute Fleischqualität, wurden aber medium-rare zubereitet, anstatt medium - das darf diesem Restaurant eigentlich nicht passieren - was auch kommuniziert wurde! Ein bestellter Salat wurde komplett vergessen! Zum Dessert brauchte ich ihn dann jedenfalls nicht mehr. Andere Restaurants im Ort setzen auf jeden Fall in Sachen Service weitaus höhere Maßstäbe!

Wir waren 2 Abende dort und haben das fantastische Essen genossen der Thunfisch war genial und sehr schmackhaft zubereitet das Lammcurry ein Gedicht sowohl der Koch als auch seine Frau kamen an den Tisch und haben über ihr Leben erzählt es war rundum ein Erlebnis hoffe die beiden machen noch einige Jahre weiter 5 Sterne+

Llvely Dinner with Excellent Service and Warm Atmosphere
We had an absolutely great experience at Café 1904. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. The food was simply delicious and full of flavor. It’s also a very family-friendly place,our kids were happy and comfortable, which made the evening even more enjoyable for us. We would definitely come back again for dinner and can highly recommend Café 1904 to anyone which is looking for wonderful food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you!

Spezielles Restaurant mit sehr guter Küche u Service. Die Speisekarte ist auf einer Tafel aufgeführt welche einem am Tisch von der Bedienung erklärt wird, jeweils für Vorspeise, Hauptgang u Dessert gibt es eine Tafel. Vorteil: man kann gleich fragen bei Unklarheiten zu bestimmten Speisen. Nachteil: man kommt etwas in Zugzwang u muss sich ziemlich schnell entscheiden, da die Dame ja mit der Tafel dasteht u wartet. Zudem weiß man beim bestellen der Vorspeise noch nicht, welche Hauptspeisen es gibt, da einem diese erst nach der Vorspeise gezeigt werden… hätte man aber sicher such danach fragen können. Und das ist eben das Konzept dieses Restaurants. Aber das Essen war sehr gut und wir würden wieder kommen.

Geniales Restaurant zentral in Hermanus
Super Restaurant zentral in Hermanus gelegen. Es schmeckt alles richtig gut, egal ob aus dem Meer oder vom Land. Die Saucen sind einfach genial und der Service hilfreich und sehr gut. Besten Dank und viele liebe Grüße an Endria, Johan und das Service Team
