Do not recommend. Paid ~$50,000 deposit on a ~$135,000 pond project. Contractor (Ryan with Bulletproof Pond & Lake) showed up and worked for one day, then abandoned the job claiming the soil was unsuitable—the same soil I paid him $6,800 to test. I later hired an independent Arkansas civil engineer who confirmed the soil was suitable for a pond (34% clay). According to the engineer, the real issue was the contractor brought the wrong equipment and lacked the knowledge and experience—not the site conditions. Ryan also represented himself as a licensed contractor in Arkansas, which I later found was not true. End result: major property damage from clearing, significant financial loss, and no pond. They are a professional marketing company with very little knowledge of pond building. What’s worse, however, is the dishonesty and willingness to walk away with other people’s money. Proceed with extreme caution.

Alex, this review contains false and misleading statements and leaves out key facts.

We evaluated the site and confirmed it was suitable. After that, you cleared the land. Once that happened, water began coming out of the ground and made the soil too wet to build the pond as designed.

We offered multiple options to adjust the project and still make it successful, but those options were declined. As a result, the project could not be completed as planned, and moving forward would have resulted in a failed pond, which we will not build.

When site conditions change and a project cannot be completed to our standards, we stop work rather than move forward with a result that will not succeed. Costs for mobilization, testing, and initial work are covered in our agreement and were applied accordingly.

This situation is being handled through the proper channels, so we cannot share all details publicly. We stand behind our work and our decisions. If you have questions after reading this, feel free to contact our office directly.

Pictures yet to upload. I've worked with Bulletproof over the years and have followed them for a long time and from a contractor standpoint (I've been a GC for going on 20 years now) they are the real deal. Bulletproof is an expert in ponds and lakes. Period. Not just in theory, but in execution. The technology, methods and solutions they bring up are things you don't see from most excavators in this space, it feels like they have a development team of 20 people on staff. Their core liners, how they approach lining ponds, their diagnostics they do, and their depth of knowledge behind their work puts them on a completely different level than others. We've seen our share of "I can build you this or that" contractors, and the service bulletproof offers almost makes it feel like they aren't even a contractor, they are the Amazon of building ponds. We've worked with engineering companies that don't do the level of diagnostics they do. I can't speak for services outside of ponds and lakes but everything they have done for our clients, and partners have been top notch. Communication has always been solid, and they have gone out of their way more times than I can count to to answer questions, share resources, and help me avoid costly mistakes. They've saved me hours , no probably days of research but sharing what they know and helping me with our plans and projects. They've helped with permitting, reviewing project ideas, and are always extremely patient when I bring up changes or ask a lot of questions. I've reached out after hours fully expecting no response till then next day,and still heard back that night. Rare! The crews in the field are respectful hard workers and want to do things right. That matters to me From someone who works with contractors every day, I see this company really cares more than just "let's get this done and get out of here" They are a rarity and I wish them nothing but success and will continue to work with them and recommend them every chance I get. Highly recommend considering bulletproof, you won't regret it.

Don. Wow, wow, wow. Reading this as a team stopped us in our tracks in the best possible way. To hear this perspective from someone with nearly 20 years as a GC, who works with contractors day in and day out, means more to us than we can properly put into words. This is an honor receiving such detailed feedback. 💙

What you shared so clearly reflects why we do what we do — not just building ponds and lakes, but doing the deep thinking, the diagnostics, the problem-solving, and the behind-the-scenes work that most people never see. Knowing that our methods, technology, and approach stand out to someone who understands the space at such a deep level is incredibly affirming for our entire team.

Your comments about communication, patience, after-hours responses, and our field crews hit especially close to home, and thank you so so so much for including this feedback. Those are intentional choices, and it means a lot to know they’ve made a real difference for you, your clients, and your projects.. That kind of trust and partnership is something we never take lightly.

We’d genuinely love to connect with you soon to thank you in person and hear more about your experience — this review has been massively impactful for our entire team, and it deserves a real conversation, not just a reply.

Until then Don, please know how grateful we are for your support, your recommendations, and the respect you’ve shown us over the years.

From all of us at Bulletproof — thank you for the work you do, the standard you hold, and the kind words you shared. It genuinely means the world to us. 💙

I have hesitated to post this for quite some time, but as the condition of our pond continues to worsen, I feel it’s important to share our experience. Three years ago, we hired Bulletproof to renovate our farm pond during the early stages of their expansion into pond projects. Ryan came out, assessed the site, and provided a quote to clear the area and enlarge the pond and dam. It was a significant investment for us—well into five figures—but we trusted their expertise and the process they outlined. Unfortunately, despite that investment, we are left with a pond that has become an eyesore. It appears there may be a leak or another unresolved issue that has not been properly identified or corrected. We have reached out multiple times seeking a resolution, but the problem remains unaddressed. Had we known the project would result in the current condition—or that additional work might be necessary—we would have chosen to leave the pond as it was rather than move forward with such a substantial expense. We understand that the company has grown and may now be focused on larger, more elaborate projects. However, it is disappointing that one of their earlier pond projects has not received the follow-through needed to resolve ongoing concerns. We had high expectations and simply hoped for a finished product that reflected the investment made and the farm we have invested 25 years in.
Reply from Bulletproof Pond And Lake
We appreciate you sharing this, and we’re truly sorry to hear how disappointed you feel. We know how much a farm pond means to a property, and we never want anyone to feel let down after making a major investment.

When we first evaluated the pond, we performed soil borings to assess the condition of the dam and determine whether an expansion would likely trigger leakage. At that time, nothing in the tested areas indicated the dam could not handle the added stress of raising the water level. It’s important to understand that soil sampling only shows conditions at specific drill points and does not provide a complete picture of everything buried inside an older dam.

After the pond was expanded and the water level increased, the added hydraulic pressure exposed a weak area within the original dam. When we returned to investigate, we discovered buried root material and debris, including milk crates, within sections of the original dam construction from long before we were involved. Those materials were not introduced by our work and were not visible during the initial testing.

Although this condition was outside of our original scope, we returned and installed a clay core repair at no charge, approximately a $12,000 cost to us, because we believe in standing behind our name and doing what we feel is right.

We also want to address the comment about outreach. We have not received recent communication regarding ongoing issues, but if something was missed, that was never intentional. Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, and we always have a dedicated receptionist and client success representative available to answer the phone.

Everything we were hired to do was completed as agreed, and we took additional steps in good faith when an unexpected pre existing condition surfaced.

We’re genuinely sorry this situation has continued to be frustrating, and we do wish you the best in getting the pond to the condition you want for your farm.

From the very first day working with Bulletproof ponds until the final completion my experience with this company was amazing. Not only did they perform with a total professional attitude the project looks amazing. They were very fair on additional work i wanted to add on. Their communications with me during the project was amazing. The only thing i am sad about is i miss watching their skills with the heavy machinery. I am a contractor of 45 years and i have to say these guys at Bulletproof impressed the heck out of me.

Thank you for such a thoughtful review. Our entire team had a fabulous time working with you, and your pond project was easily one of our team's favorites here recently!

It was an honor working for someone with 45 years of experience in the industry, and your trust in us—especially with a project and investment of this scale, meant a great deal. We’re glad to hear that the process, communication, and final result met your expectations!

We’re excited to see the incredible additions you and your loved ones continue to make. We look forward to capturing some after shots, and much more, as your stunning pond evolves! 🌿 🌊

Thank you again for choosing our team and for being such a fun client to work for 💙 Cheers to the new pond and many memories yet to be made!! 🥂

We hired Ryan, Hunter and the Bulletproof team for a 2nd project at our house, which included a retaining wall for our pond. Hunter, the project lead, spent significant time understanding the exact scope and details of the project, and then completed the project as if the pond was his own. Hunter's communication with me and his enthusiasm for the project were both outstanding. The owner was even out on site in a loader moving dirt when one of his employees had an emergency and the team was short a worker. That is dedication to the client! Super grateful for the team.

Chad, it was a pleasure working with you again, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback on your experience with us. 💙

Hunter brings a lot of ownership to every project, so hearing that he treated your pond as if it were his own, with stellar communication and care meant a great deal to him and the entire team! That level of care and attention is exactly what we aim for on every job.

We’re also grateful you brought up Ryan coming out and getting things wrapped up within timeframe, even when challenges came up with some team members being out, and just what that meant to you. Thank you so much for your continued trust in us here at Bulletproof Pond & Lake. We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with you again, Chad!

As always, don't hesitate to reach back out with any future additions or pond and lake projects ;)

UPDATE: I typically would never respond to a company with such low integrity, but their response was chock full of detailed lies, so it's unfortunately necessary so others can understand who they'd be dealing with here. This company spent nearly zero time with me aside from a "complimentary phone consultation." After that, it was nothing more that me chasing them down for some ballpark figures and to gain an understanding of what is included at the various price points. I laughed when they claimed there were "multiple phone calls," as if they were being attentive. Nah, those were all me calling them, and never receiving any response despite promises to do so. They claimed they provided me with free resources and materials. That is also a complete lie. In fact, they make every effort to keep everything a secret until the paid on-site eval occurs. The anonymous person who responded made a big effort to paint me as a cheapskate who can't afford them or was seeking discounts or "price-matching." Of course, that never occurred and no such requests were made. I actually LOL'd when I read it, particularly considering I'm spending more than they proposed with the company I finally selected. That's a very immature response, to be sure, as if they are the pond experts of choice for the rich and famous. LOL Here's the bottom line. At one point, I did want to work with Bulletproof after a recommendation from a company I won't name. I even committed to their $3k on-site eval and one of the project options they proposed. But after another instance of promising to get back to me by a certain date for scheduling and never doing so, my gut told me to back out. Thankfully, I had not signed anything. It is disingenuous for them to have presented this situation as anything other than an utter failure on their part to communicate, be punctual, and live up to their commitments throughout the sales cycle. In fact, it was as embarrassing of a scenario as I could possibly imagine for them to have fumbled a prospective customer who gave them every possible chance. After reading their deceit-filled response, I have no doubt I made the right decision to take my $30k project elsewhere. I recommend everyone else do the same. Other similar companies: Kansas Land & Pond, Critchfield Crane, Midwest Lake Management, Elite Excavating, JD Excavating, KC PowerRaking & Services, Blaser Excavation, Midwest Dredging, Amborn Stone, Kansas Property Services, and Jayhawk Excavating. ORIGINAL: I've spent an ample amount of time over the past month attempting to work with this company at my new property, which is located right in their backyard. Unfortunately, it was an arduous, frustrating sales process. A service company should make it as easy as possible to help a customer spend $25,000-$30,000 or more, but instead it was about as burdensome as I could've imagined. Despite having read good online reviews, it's difficult to envision a project actually going well considering how irritating and disjointed the sales/scheduling process was, including an astonishing amount of unkept promises and poor communication. In the end, I decided to go a different direction altogether and selected another excavation/acreage pond company to handle my renovation project. I recommend not wasting your time on Bulletproof, as I found them to be inattentive, full of excuses, and comparatively overpriced by ~20%.

Joe,

We’re sorry the experience left you frustrated. That was never our intention.

We did have a complimentary consultation call and followed up with rough pricing ranges and general guidance for your project. For clarity, detailed design-level estimates, breakdowns, and extended consulting are part of our paid Site Evaluation process, since accurate pond renovation planning depends heavily on soil data, engineering considerations, and site-specific analysis.

We always try to be helpful up front, but we also have to stay consistent with our process so we can serve active clients well. That includes limiting detailed estimating and extended consultation to projects that move into the formal evaluation stage.

We understand that not every process is the right fit for every landowner, and that’s okay. We genuinely wish you success with your renovation and appreciate the opportunity to have spoken with you.

We engaged Bulletproof Ponds to expand our existing 2 acre pond to 12 acres -- and are extremely satisfied with this large project. Hunter and KJ were the primary workers on the project and worked consistently day in and day out to complete this nearly 3 month project. They were just excellent -- and we are picky folks!!! From the start - Bulletproof ran a professional process from a general conversation, to a site visit, to soil testing and providing topographical maps to make sure we were all on the same page. We also decided to rip rap the damn since it is so big - and that looks like a good decision. T.J. was also excellent in communicating schedules and statuses. The crew respected the cleanliness of our property as well. Just can't say enough about how well this project went. Now all we need is some good rain next spring!!!!

Terrific experience and so pleased with our new pond! Jeremy, the primary operator, has an ironclad work ethic, terrific working knowledge of the plans, and is enjoyable to socialize with. This is truly a 5-Star company. From CEO to operator, Bulletproof Pond and Lake communicates well and gets the job done. This is a top-tier company. Would strongly recommend this company to anyone looking to have a pond or lake done. Additionally, they surveyed the land with a drone (lidar capability) and sent off soil samples to ensure there was adequate clay content to retain the water. They also offer a guarantee that your pond will retain water. Don't even think about going with another company. This outfit is legitimate. Keep up the great work. This company lives up to its name....... Bulletproof!
