Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback, Justin. Unfortunately, organizations such as the Ministry of Finance do reviews and audits of businesses financials, including PST, from time to time and we understand that this process can be stressful.

While you did hire our firm briefly in 2023, you did not hire us to do an audit as you did not want to pay the costs associated with that in depth work. You instead elected to have us do a basic review of your bookkeeping practices, which we did. We provided you with some general suggestions on changes you might wish to make to ensure your business finances were recorded as accurately as possible, however your GST and PST reporting was only one small section of this two-hour review. We keep detailed records of our client communications in order to ensure that if there are ever additional questions or concerns, we have the necessary records to enable us to continue to provide the most timely and accurate advice possible.

We discussed that as an electrical contractor that you should be aware of claiming the PST exemption on items you purchase for re-sale. We also discussed how this should be recorded in your bookkeeping records and in turn reported to PST when you complete your PST returns. We advised proper bookkeeping practices would help reduce the work involved in a GST or PST review, were you to be subjected to one.

We stand behind everything we advise our clients to do and not to do and will always support our work if our clients do experience a review or an audit.

We appreciate you bringing your concern about potentially having received someone else’s documentation to our attention. We work diligently to ensure that client confidentiality is maintained and have strict internal document control policies, however, we will use this information to review these policies to further ensure that client confidentiality is maintained. We’re sorry to hear that you have been disappointed with the service you have received. When we took on your file, we advised you it could take several months for CRA to process each of the reviews (and there were five to be completed). Unfortunately, with the nature of the adjustments that were required, they needed to me mailed in, since we were not the ones who filed the original tax returns and that adds additional time to the processing.

We endeavor to communicate with our clients throughout adjustment and review processes whenever there is movement on the file. When we learned that you preferred more frequent updates, even if there was no change or progress, we advised we would reach out on a weekly basis, even if it was just to say there was no progress.

We have been in touch with CRA throughout this process and have been advised that they have received what we sent and are processing your reviews and asked you to provide information as to the agent you spoke with who provided other information so we could follow up directly to determine what was really going on and unfortunately you didn’t have that information. We did reach back to CRA, confirmed what we had been told and what we had told you previously and unfortunately you weren’t pleased with that response.

Again, we are sorry we were unable to meet your expectations; we submitted all the information required, unfortunately you now have to wait for CRA to do their part, and their timeline can vary.
