Hyundai Quality at Mercedes Pricing This fall, we had our basement remodeled by Basements by Bek. As with most things there was some good, some bad, and some ugly. Starting with the good. Bek receives an “A” grade for craftsmanship and knowledge. John and his team are very skilled and professional. John and the Bek team also receive high marks for finishing the project on time. Now the bad. Bek receives a “C” grade for pricing and a vague contract. My advice to anyone considering Bek, please cover your contract in detail and ask John to show you the materials he will be using in your home prior to signing. The contract he offers only accounts for the lowest of builder grade flooring, doors, fixtures, and hardware. In addition, any minor changes will be up-charged substantially. Oh yes, and you are responsible for the removal and disposal of all left over construction debris. I blame myself for not being more thorough when reading the contract, I only mention it to prevent others from making the same mistake. Finally the ugly. As I have mentioned, Bek uses the lowest of builder grade materials. We asked three separate times for the carpeting brand that was being installed, John wouldn’t give us the name because he knew it was very poor quality. Not surprisingly, he offered better options that would have been up-charged significantly. Who would expect a $100K basement job to only include trailer park carpeting? We also asked if we could visit the warehouse to see a bigger selection, and again the answer was no. It was obvious we were disappointed, but there was no effort to provide anything better without significant cost being added to the project. The LVP he installed was Home Depot average quality, but the original doors he was offering and door fixtures are cheap. At some point, we will be spending several thousand dollars to have someone come in and install better carpeting and finishes. Would I use Bek again? Yes, but it would be under much different terms and with a clear understanding of expectations. John is a great salesperson and gets high marks for maximizing his profit at the expense of customer satisfaction, but I have no complaints about his skill or competence as a builder. You should consider him for your basement project, but be very clear before signing any contract about your expectations, materials to be used, and any potential up charges. So is our basement really comparable to a “Hyundai?” Yes it is, but Hyundai’s are serviceable cars and we will get good usage out of it for years to come. My complaint is that we paid Mercedes pricing because I didn’t pay attention to the fine details of the contract and because John is solely focused on his profit. I’m giving Basements by Bek a 3 star because 2.5 isn’t an option, but buyer beware.

Our new basement is beyond words. On the first day it was finished, it became everyone’s favorite part of the house. John and Cody are personable, professional and deliver premium results. They were able to design and build a house under our house, as well as identify and overcome several would-be problems with our existing basement appliances and systems. We always understood what the schedule was and what was going to happen day-to-day. Now we not only have a finished basement, but also the confidence moving forward that everything works and is up to code. We highly recommend Basements By Bek. The end result is life-changing. It’s an upgrade you’ll enjoy for decades.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 – Outstanding Experience with Basements by BEK We recently completed a full basement renovation with Basements by BEK, and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. John and Cody were incredibly professional yet very personable, which made the process smooth and enjoyable. Our basement had more unexpected obstacles than we anticipated, some requiring repairs and others needing creative solutions outside the original scope of work. They never hesitated — they took on every challenge with skill, patience, and a can-do attitude. They were consistently responsive, informative, and kind, and their dedication shows in every detail. The final result is beyond anything we hoped for. We asked for a bathroom, two bedrooms, an open-concept living space, and a gym, and they delivered all of it flawlessly. The space is bright, clean, beautifully finished, and built with true craftsmanship. Our basement is now one of our favorite parts of the home. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Highly recommend Basements by BEK — 10/10, five stars, without hesitation.

John and Letyce were very easy to work with; from requesting an appointment for a quote to working towards the finished project. John was a wealth of information and helped us navigate finishing our first basement. He had great ideas and helped us determine what was the best for our space. Once the work began, he showed up when he said he would, always on time and his sub-contractors were easy to work with. Our job encountered a carpet delay, but John worked diligently to provide a solution and get the job done with as little delay as possible. We are excited to use our new space. We met with John and Letyce from Basements by Bek to discuss finishing our basement. John arrived at our home promptly and provided a reasonable estimate for the work, which was within our proposed budget. While it wasn't the lowest estimate we received, we immediately felt comfortable with John and trusted that he would deliver quality work without surprises or sloppy results. Both John and Letyce kept us informed throughout the initial planning process. John even advised against adding a bathroom, noting it likely wouldn't be used regularly and would significantly increase costs. I truly appreciated his transparency and that he prioritized the customer's best interest over seeking additional profit. A few months later, we now have a beautifully finished basement, perfect as a play area for our young kids during the winter. We also have a home gym with padded flooring and an area for my wife and me to use for board games or as a future bar once we can reclaim some space from the kids. We are incredibly grateful to John and his entire team. The entire process was worry-free; we always felt informed, and the completed work looks incredible—exactly what we expected given John's professionalism throughout our entire engagement. I highly recommend considering Basements by Bek for your future basement projects.

Bröker Painting and Remodeling just completed a total bathroom remodel for me. I have an older home (built in 1936) and you can imagine the surprises they found when they started opening up the ceiling, walls, and floor. They easily dealt with every obstacle they encountered. Bröker’s crew members were pleasant to work with and sticklers for detail. The owner, John Moore, was also involved in the project as needed and made sure I was completely satisfied with everything before they called the project complete. I can highly recommend their work.

I had contracted John Moore, owner of Brokar Painting and Remodeling for three different jobs on three occasions. The first was after a storm flooded and destroyed the inside of my 3-car garage. John and his crew had to tear out and rebuild the whole inside structure. When the job was completed, the results were more than I had ever expected. This crew was experienced, professional, punctual, cleaned up after themselves and reasonably priced. I couldn’t have asked for more. The second time I called John I wanted my house updated a bit. This was to replace carpeting with a wood flooring in the dining room and living room and replacing all the trim and door casings which were stained to match the new flooring. Along with that, fresh paint in all rooms throughout the house. I was extremely pleased with the beautiful new look all around. When another storm hit last October, a tree was knocked down in the backyard and did some serious damage to the house. It took down electrical wires and tore off the siding, exposing the whole back wall and part of the roof. Again, I turned to Brokar Painting and Remodeling. John was consistent in his expertise, work ethics, and fair pricing. This is a company I highly recommend and I would hire again without hesitation.
