DISHONEST PRICING! buyer beware!
If I could give zero stars I would. They tell you one price then after you get the box, they jack up the price for the final piece. It is not advertised at all, even though they say it is it certainly is not, and then (after you tell them to forget about everything and keep the art because you don't want to pay almost 3000 for an art book) they threaten to take you to collections if you don't pay. Don't take my word for it- go to BBB and read others who had the same experience as me. I should have looked their first. Very shady company with horrible "customer service"
Not worth the cost at all
As a concept this is very interesting. As a parent everyone gets a ton of art work from their child’s early years. Which obviously they want to keep in the best possible way. Then ARTKIVE add grab attendtion as they promote their boxes for $19 - 34. You order thinking this is the cost of the final product. Only to realize that you will be charged $100s of dollars more to actually get the book.
It’s completely ridiculous. The cost is exorbitant for the finished product. Absolutely not worth it.
Price Misrepresentation; Rude Customer Service
BUYER BEWARE - Price Misrepresentation
In 2022, I received an Artkive box from my neighbor as a gift. I sent int the box with my daughter’s artwork a few months later. Having received nothing in the six months that followed, no communication whatsoever, I followed up with Artkive on Instagram on October 6, 2023 to inquire about the book of my daughter’s drawings. After some back and forth with their customer team, they said they found my daughter’s artwork and sent me a link to pay for it. I was confused because my neighbor had purchased it for me as a gift. I asked the
customer service team why I was being asked to pay for it. They let me know about the 1st and 2nd payment process, which I was unaware of. With this new information, I asked to have the book returned and to cancel my order. At no time did I ever see a proof of my book or have any visual confirmation that it had been prepared. Also, had I not originally reached out to check on it, I may have never heard or received the book. Six months is not a reasonable amount of time to wait for this type of product. I told the customer service agent,
Frannie, on October 12, 2023, that I did not wish to proceed with the book because of the exorbitantly high and unexpected cost. I was notified a few days later that they were preparing my box for return. Several weeks passed and I did not receive any notification that it had been shipped, so I followed up again. This is my only child’s artwork, and the lack of communication about its shipping status was unacceptable. After that follow up, I received no communication, but the box with my daughter’s artwork was eventually returned. I
assumed that my business with Artkive was concluded. However, last week, I received a letter from their customer service team with a $125 charge and a notice that if I do not pay, it will go into a process of collections. This is for the digital editing work, per their team’s email explanation. I have never received a proof of the book or any evidence that they even photographed my daughter's artwork.
I should not be charged for a service I cannot confirm that I received. I was never aware of the cost for this (because this box was originally gifted to me), and even when I went to their website today, it doesn’t have this fee listed. It only vaguely says “Cost of photography/editing, books, and/or mosaics not included.” There is no price listed for this. Since I was gifted this Artkive box originally, I had no idea of the cost. Today, they said if I paid $89 by the end of the day, they would not send it to collections. This did not include any
evidence that the artwork had been photographed. Also, I do not know how they arrived at the $125 charge or the $89 charge. This pricing is not listed on their website. The entire process of waiting over 6 months for the book, then being charged an exorbitant
amount, and then going back and forth with their team has been miserable, and been very painful for me to deal with. I am not the only one as I have observed on their Instagram. Others have complained about their lack of transparency in pricing, and they simply delete the comments or respond rudely on Instagram. I believe with cost transparency this could be a business that parents want to engage with, but not only did they almost lose my daughter’s artwork, now I am being charged for something I have not received. If they photographed my daughter’s artwork and I have to pay for that, shouldn’t I be entitled to those photographs at a minimum?
Please do not waste your money
This is horrible. Please do not fall for this trap as you wont believe the amount which will asked for the pieces photographed. Website says different and they send quote different. Once you swnd papers you dont even have a choice to select or deselect as it is mandate to get them with no preview. There prices are very verg high that you will get surprised to know why that prices.
Terrible
The album software is AWFUL! Absolutely terrible. Did not sort correctly, did not move pics easily, did not label (either by age or tag) on the the thumbnail editing page, so you have to figure out what pic belongs to what category all over again. AND no phone number to call for help. They give an email address, a text number, and a calendar to schedule a call back - I needed help while I was doing it, not when they got around to answering my email, text, or calling me back.
Additionally, the pics look NOTHING like the ads. They do not fill the page, so on most pages you have a pic in the middle of a bunch of white space.
I am very disappointed, I spent many many hours sorting my sons artwork, and I believe the end product will be something I won't want to show anyone. For what this is it is far too expensive. I could have done much better with a tripod for my phone, a white sheet and Shutterfly.
I actually never write reviews, so this was bad enough to write one so that others would know what they are getting for their money.
Absolute scam
Over $300 in and I have nothing to show for it. I paid $40 for a box, $20 for a usb of pictures, $20 to get my “art” shipped back to me. Because of their sketchy policy for photographing my kids doodles I had to pay over $200 to even get the usb I had already paid for and they held my kids artwork hostage until I paid it. Now they keep sending me emails for book. To add insult to injury I paid for $60 for a membership I thought would get me a deal on the photographed art but nope. It just got me a $30 credit for a book I don’t even want.

Terrible
Do not use this company- they do not tell parents they are locking them into a binding agreement if they send art in to get a quote for books. They are attempting to do this to me right now when i signed no agreement and when I rejected a $900 quote for an art book for my child. I ordered my label 3.5 years ago….Nov 27, 2020
Disingenuous
After receiving all of the artwork, they will refuse to speak to you or give you any guidance. Only after receiving a $1000 did I have digital access to review the artwork. Despite countless efforts to speak to somebody their protocol mandates only written generic communication until you pay your money. Every response was a “canned” robotic piece of information, and was very unhelpful. They hold the artwork as hostage until you pay a great deal of money. The artwork was thrown together, despite the instructions that I followed to keep it organized. I had to spend hours re-organizing, and trying to figure out how to edit the book. Two weeks after the books were shipped to me. I finally spoke to a human being who is very unhelpful. I expressed my frustration and concerns and their response was a $25 gift certificate for a future purchase.
Not goo any more
The international shipping option does not work. Even when contacting artkive the replies are not helpful. It is claimed international shipping works but it is not possible to enter non US postcodes. Artkive used to offer a service to send a payment link. This service is not available any more. The website is difficult to navigate and the sorting options are hard to understand.
Overpriced and Bad Customer Service
I have to say that Im disappointed in the product and the quality of the pictures. The art looks very small on the pages and some of the pictures show imperfections.
I understand that I had an opportunity to edit it online but Im not a photographer nor an expert graphic designer and may have overlooked the details.
Lastly, this product is way overpriced and the fact that I was forced to pay for it before I was able to see what I was purchasing feels wrong.
The whole family love it!!!
Honestly there’s so much I could say about Artkive, but I’ll keep it super brief:
- my kids love looking back at their books and seeing their progression
- I love seeing how happy they are when they see their own published books
- my husband loves that it’s very decluttered and aren’t hoarding
- my parents/ in-laws love it because they get great books of their grandchildren making them feel part of our everyday life.
Can’t recommend artkive enough!!
It's been so so great to look back at all the hard work my kids did when they were in 5th and 6th grade! I absolutely love that I can just recycle all the old artwork from my kids, but keep looking at their creations in a book. MY parents in law have also asked for their own versions, which Artkive happily reprinted and sent to them.
I do want to shout out Jona at Artkive. Even 2 years later, she remembered the book we built together and quickly dispatched a new order for my parents in law! Great company!
My kids LOVE these!
My kids absolutely love their book! We started Artkiving when they were very young and have been doing it every year since! They both love going through the old books every year and seeing how much they've progressed. I really love Artkive's "be your Childs first publisher" concept. It makes them feel really adult and special.
The process is super easy. I just order a new box (you will likely only need one, as the boxes are MASSIVE!!), I throw my kids art in. Sometimes I organize it, sometimes I don't. Then I send it back and in a few weeks time Artkive will have beautifully photographed all my pieces and created a beautiful book. While I work with them to make changes to the book, I settle any outstanding invoices and they send me my perfect book in just a few days! Such a great service!
My grandkids beautiful art.
My children just gave me a book with all my grandkids little drawings and art and it’s incredible! I live far away from my grandchildren in Florida and they live in Los Angeles. This is such a beautiful way to be connected with them. I’m ordering a few for my friends now too. Such a great idea!
Carla was SOOO easy to work with!
Carla was fantastic! I absolutely loved working with her to build my baby's book! Not only did she help pick the best art for the cover, but her team did such a great job photographing every single piece, EVEN THE MASSIVE MACARONI ART... I'm not even sure how they managed to do that without breaking a scanner or something... Can only recommend Artkive and Carla enough!!
Artkive made the process so easy!
Artkive makes life so much easier. The service is incredibly easy and straightforward. Depending on how busy you are, you can basically choose your involvement. I had some free time, so I worked with the book builders at artkive a lot to find the perfect order and how I wanted the book built!!
I just want to shoutout Haley. Working with her was such a breeze. Anytime I had any questions, she was incredibly patient and helpful in answering everything.
