Blends the ordinary with the extraordinary I loved this dark fantasy for its genre blend, humor, and generally great atmosphere. Win is a great main character, relatable and charismatic. What makes this book especially engaging is its sharp wit and humor, as well as superb world-building. It’s a very immersive experience and I got lost in it as soon as I picked the book up. The one aspect where the novel can be improved is the side characters, which are not particularly memorable, and the pacing – the story stalled a bit for me in the middle, but luckily, that isn’t for long. Overall, this is an imaginative and entertaining read that blends the ordinary with the extraordinary with ease.

Intriguing and fast-moving This is an intriguing and fast-moving supernatural mystery and thriller that fans of dark fantasy will enjoy. McNutt keeps us as readers guessing at every turn, and although some of the tropes employed are perhaps a bit over-used in this genre, the story is nevertheless engaging and intriguing. I am giving this book four out of five stars.

An exciting dark supernatural fantasy tale. Win has been seeing 'hallucinations' since she was a small child and has learnt to keep them to herself, but when she encounters Twain at a cleaning job her life begins to spiral out into a deep mystery as she realises she is under observation by two opposing groups who realise she is much more powerful than she knows. This supernatural thriller is well written and well paced, leading the reader deeper into a world of wonder and terror as Win discovers her true nature and secrets that have been hidden from mankind for millennia...

Great fantasy story! "Out of the Way Things" is a great fantasy story following Win and her abilities to see hallucinations or visions that reveal truths about people and the world around her. Win does not take these visions seriously at first until she encounters a vision where someone is trying to speak to her. Once she has that vision, she embarks on a crazy journey between both a fantasy world and reality where the fantasy characters she meets can also blend into the real world as well. In case people are curious about Win in the real world, she's a bartender that works at a bar. One thing I found beneficial to Win for helping her understand her fantasies is a character named Sophia in the book. Sophia helps Win throughout the whole story with understanding her visions, powers, and people and monster she can trust along the way. The book is also full of great action between the humans and monsters between both worlds with a little mystery involved as well, and can also make readers think at end if someone were to go into the past and do something that can alter someone's future. Great fantasy story with a lot of action along the way, and a great intro to help introduce readers to Win's vision powers to get this book going as well!

It’s written in a very intriguing way that keeps you really sucked into the plot throughout the whole book. Win is an amazing character that is to be admired. Someone who seems ordinary and with a life I wouldn’t want to have. Adding to her monotonous life, she sees horrible things in her mind that nobody else can perceive. The thought of having to be her just crushes me. It has to be really thought to go through that. Truly admirable.

“There are many things I cannot see that are real.” The character Win is a good protagonist, interesting and mysterious, as opposed to how she sees herself. Her hallucinations are actually her other eye seeing the un-noticeable by normal people. It is a short but entertaining read, good enough to pass the time and would make you want to read more. There is magic everywhere and what may seem ordinary to us may be something else to others. The author wrote great characters and good dialogues. I would love to see some illustrations as they bring a lot to the book. Being written in a first-person point of view helps the reader immerse themselves in the book and relate with Win. This story reminds me of True Blood.
