Alaska Airlines - Better than United?
Alaska Airlines is the best airline I've flown. Friendly and nice crew, good seats, best legroom, they have in-seat USB and power outlets and tray table is big. Wi-Fi costs $8, but free for T-Mobile members, Good selection of entertainment, Plus, they also have newer 737 MAX's. Best part, I've helped the passengers and they say I did a good job. Plus they serve complimentary drinks. which is good. The cons, they delayed us for 3-4 hours, but no compensation. But the best part, we got a carry on bag sticker before boarding. Alaska offers a free carry on, even on basic ticket, which is good, but we placed it in the overhead bin, And we have the device holder for newer planes, just like Southwest, American and United. I will fly with Alaska! Best airline at Pacific Northwest! 5 stars.
Great airline gone mediocre
Alaska used to be fantastic and was my go-to airline for customer service, flight quality, etc. As they have grown in size, their service and product have declined such that they're now comparable to Delta and United. Their new mileage plan is not very functional, either (e.g., lost points). I dropped my credit card with them due to their decline in service. I no longer book Alaska for a 'better' experience - only if their schedules and pricing meet the need. Sometimes they win, sometimes they don't.
Alaska Airlines has 0 Empathy.
Well, we had an expected death in the family. It was horrible. In my grief, I booked a round trip flight for me and my 2 year old daughter that I could barely afford in order to attend. I accidentally input the wrong return date and realized 3 days later. I called Alaska and they refused to allow rebooking. I wasn’t asking for a refund. I was just asking for them to help me in a time when I was desperate. I was even willing to pay a change fee or the difference between flights. They wouldn’t. They told me to eat the cost and buy a different return flight. I couldn’t afford it, so now will miss the funeral. At least I will get to see family leading up to the event. For those of you who think I should have purchased travel insurance or a higher fare, please check your privilege. The flight ALONE was nearly $1,000. I’m doing my best.
Shocking customer service
Flight was delayed but the crew onboard were nice and tried hard to get personages who had connecting flights off the plane first to help them out. The real issue was the rude pig of a man that was working the front counter today. He was the most unhelpful person I’ve met and didn’t want to even try to have a discussion. He just hung his head and wouldn’t look up. Give you a tip, if you work in customer service then you have to deal with customers, if you don’t like people go and put the bags in the plane.
Alaska can and should do better
Save your first class fare. We paid ^$600 upgrades for First Class for Lisa to tell me my husband can have more water once the “16 people in front of me get more”. Oh there’s a caste system in first class now? My seat assignment is my designated drink assignment? Do better
Always Delayed
This is my third time flying Alaskan out of Minneapolis and all three times I have had delays. The first one wasn't long and I was able to make my connecting flight. However the 2nd and 3rd time I had long delays. The 2nd time I was lucky enough to be connecting to Alaskan and funny enough that flight was also delayed. Now this 3rd time I wasn't so lucky. I was connecting with a Hawaiian Airlines flight (which left on time) and I missed it to the 2 and a half hour delay at the gate along with the 45 minute wait for de-icing (to their credit this is something they dont have control over).
Upgrade to worse seats.
I have been duped by Alaska so many times with their “upgrades” in their emergency seats. With rows not being able to lean back or even worse… no extra leg room and not being able to recline. It’s been a number of times now where they have no extra details and I pay upwards of $100 extra dollars for nothing. Their seats are junk. Cheap plastic. No benefits to flying on these junky little planes. Whatever you do, don’t upgrade to the exit isle… your stuck with the same seats as everyone else just no ability to recline. I am now sitting in the row 17 with the missing third seat and simply just sitting next to someone’s feet. It’s BS. No extra room, no recline. I hate these planes… but no one else offers direct flights to Costa Rica anymore.
Very rude not caring about passengers and/or their kids
Flight attendants were very rude would love to see more help, we asked to be seated with our same reservation which included minors and infants and they said we couldn’t change because flight was full, and when we left there were 10s of seats still available.
Atmos is a Hot Mess!
This is not about a specific trip. This is about how Alaska Airlines went from my #1 choice in travel to dead last. The minute they joined Hawaiian Airlines and became “Atmos”, everything went downhill. Online booking has become impossible, trying to get a human being on the phone - impossible. Wait time is always over two hours and usually no callback option offered. I unfortunately signed up for the Atmos credit card and have had nothing but trouble with it. I just switched to Delta as my airline of choice, and I fly a lot.
Alaska Airlines first class embarrassing service, avoid
Refused entry to teh lounge after paying for First Class and lounge entry saying our ticket does not qualify even after confirming with BA. On the flight First class was disgusting, dirty toilets , seats and overhead storage, consisted of a spilt coke and stained clothes when leaving. Clearly not cleaned and defo not first class embarrassing and not value for money, avoid.
Terrible Information by Airline Agents
Terrible experience. Flights got cancelled due to weather which is normal but the rescheduling process was horrible. Talking to agents on the phone I couldn’t get a straight answer. Some said it was gonna be a fee for a late change and others said it wasn’t.
Don't choose Alaska, Hawaiin is better.
The customer service is terrible. They basically mad us stay in the island and refused to move our flight when our hotel canceled the day of arrival. Felt like I was robbed by hotel while Alaska grabbed my wallet, then both ran off. Alaska definitely does this on purpose. Once you pay, the money is gone, even if its same day. Hawaiin at lease has aloha spirit and knows things happen and allows you to move dates up if you cover the new costs of the ticket. Alaska just takes your money. It pains me that Alaska and Hawaiin work together. My flight was Hawaiian air but Alaska sold me the ticket, then took the money.
Poor purchase experience
I found the purchase process difficult and confusing. The original purchase cost increased with each time going to website. We had made an error with our dates and called customer service. The person was short and curt about being required to cancel flight at $370. And stated "the airlines has the right to change cost at any time." So we had to repurchase tickets at >$150. each. Every time we checked cost the price increased. This airline is taking advantage of errors, no integrity to provide good customer service, and frankly don't care. I would recommend any other airline.
Poor customer service and even worse website/systems
What has happened to Alaska air?? Since they acquired Hawaiian air their system is terrible. The flights and service on the flights is still good the problem is with their systems. You can't log into your account anymore and after you try many times it locks you out. The only solution is to wait more than an hour to talk to "customer service" who doesn't really listen and are actually rude on the phone talking down to you like I don't know what I'm asking. After a long time I did get the problem resolved but it has really taken my view of this airline down more than a few notches. Its too bad because I have flown them for many years and continue to along with our children when they need to book flights.
