My husband and I completed our home in 2025, and overall the building process was genuinely possitive. We especially enjoyed working with the sales, main PM, and design teams, they were helpful, responsive, and made the early stages feel exciting. However, one of the biggest challenges throughout the build was the turnover. We started with one salesperson, finished the design phase with another, and went through three different project managers during construction. While I understand that staffing changes happen, the lack of consistency made the process feel disjointed.
The main project manager we worked with was great, knowledgeable and kind, but he also seemed busy. It made me wonder if the high turnover contributed to the workload he was carrying, and ultimately, to some of the gaps in communication we experienced.
A issue we experienced was the disconnect between the sales team and the construction side. Many of the features and ideas we had planned for our home (long term) ended up not being feasible due to septic placement, water lines, gas lines, or trees. While we understand that these limitations exist, none of this was clearly communicated before we finalized our plans. Had we known, we absolutely would have made different decisions.
As homeowners, not builders, we relied heavily on the expertise of the team we hired. We trusted that things like spacing and standard measurements would be accounted for. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. When we moved in, our standard refrigerator didn’t fit, and we had to pay extra to have the cabinets redone because we “didn’t measure.” The same thing happened with our washer and dryer, they didn’t fit the designated space, and again, the responsibility fell on us. That was frustrating, especially given that we expected guidance in those areas.
The most frustrating part, and the reason for a lower review, is that nearly a year after moving in we’re hitting a wall of confusion. We were set up with a warranty service and told that issues arising naturally (as a home is lived in) within the first year would likely be covered. However, that hasn’t been our experience. We’ve encountered multiple issues with this warranty service not fulfilling requests like gaps in the stairs, cabinet drawers that no longer fully close, a shower head that’s missing a piece and sprays incorrectly, loose towel holders, carpet coming apart at the seams, and visible cracks forming in the walls. None of these have been covered under the warranty. Even our garage door broke unexpectedly, and we were told there was nothing that could be done.
I’ve attached photos of several issues we’ve submitted for repair that were ultimately denied. Again, most of our experience we truly appreciated, particularly during the early stages. It’s just unfortunate that the final outcome, and the support afterward, has left us feeling this way. When you spend so much time saving and planning for such a significant and personal investment, you hope for a smoother and more supportive experience from start to finish.
