This place is an institution. Selling incredible (mostly Italian) pastries since 1894, it's hard to have a bad time here. Sure, most of the options are sugary or wheaty, but the menu is so expansive there are even options for people with dietary sensitivities. Bring a date, come with friends, invite the family, discuss business, celebrate a birthday. This place is great for all kinds of socializing, but it's also a great place to enjoy alone with a book or newspaper.
I used to come to Veniero’s all the time to pick up treats for family and friends. I came back today and the host said I had to wait for him to sit me because he’s busy. Another staff came by and sat me. Ordered what I wanted and waited for the bill…nothing. Went up to pay at the register and not a single word, just rung me up (the same host). Didn’t look at me, didn’t say anything. Only time he looked up was when I was inputting the tip. Sad to see what has happened to one of my favorite spots in NYC
Gorgeous store, but we waited for quite some time to get our to-go order. When we did finally get to the front, it was a bit of a rush to get our thoughts and our items but it was good and staff was kind.
The pastries itself were just kinda meh. They were very flavorless compared to other bakeries we've had. I personally really like a lot of chocolate or a lot of jam or preserves between my cookies and Veniero's gives a very thin scraping. Personally very underwhelmed. They aren't even bad in texture, just not very sweet or tasty flavor wise for me.
My go to place for all special events. You will not go wrong with any purchase in this iconic establishment. If you want take out or just to have a seat with some friends over a coffee and treats, this is the place. I've been going here as far as I can remember. The fruit cake and strawberry shortcake are my favorites.
