Disappointed- drove down from the Northside of Brisbane. We arrived at the requested time, waited till 0600, only to be told by the very apologetic male that the fishing trip is now cancelled & that the skipper was a no show! Sounds like you need a back up skipper if this one is unreliable!
Even though the fish were not biting in the day. It was a great day. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us, John! 🌊 We're really glad you enjoyed your day, even if the fish were a bit shy that time. Our team always aims to make trips enjoyable by being friendly and supportive. We can't wait to have you onboard again soon for another wonderful day out!
Channelling my inner Karen. We had about 15 on the boat "Fat Hooker". Seating was not enough for all so a few had to hold on for dear life with no care or consideration made .... just expectation we know what to do.
The highlight was my son did catch his first ever fish... it wasn't legal but was a snapper and was on his bucket list.. so not a complete waste.
Now onto the cons:
-Training / Guidance - 30 second demonstration on baiting a hook... then crickets rest of trip.
-The skipper would park the boat parallel with the waves at each stop... the boat went from fairly stable to rocking side to side non stop making fishing rather impossible whilst maintaining balance. I have no idea why he would keep intentionally turning the boat that way. Outside of driving the boat and eating food I'm not sure if he did anything else.
-Afternoon session the group caught 3 legal fish total and a handful of smaller (lucky my son was 1 of them) - so for the last 30minutes instead of letting us fish they hooked up 3 rods with lures and drove slowly around in circles... needless to say no fish were caught so we headed home.
-The french accent deckhand seemed skilled in his craft but would not talk to you unless you bothered him... he would come over bait a hook then leave... mission done... no further advise given. He was more interested in fishing off the back of the boat.
What would have made the day better:
-Park the boat correctly to minimise rocking (I've spoken to other charters and they were puzzled as to why they'd park parallel with the waves)
-Give guidance, go around to each person constantly and check if they need tips or advice to help improve their fishing skills.
-Have enough seating for all customers and preferably chairs with backs on them... non stop rocking with nothing behind you wears you out very quickly
Overall 2 out of 5, redeemed only by the fact my son caught his very first fish... website promises more, but delivered less.
End rant. Afternoon session 3rd Jan 2026.
*edited* due to owners response
--> yes the boat was anchored, but the skipper manually turned the boat parallel with the swell - we did not drift.
--> of course the crew can eat - no issues with that... it was a passing comment on the little to no interaction from the skipper... weird to comment on the food part.
--> I did consult two different charters who said similar things, but mentioned they would not put the side of the boat (largest surface area) with the swell they also mentioned additional anchors to stop drifts... but your boat didn't drift, the captain had engines on and slowly turned it.
--> as for safety - whilst you might meet safety standards your crew made no effort to ensure safety. Weird comment regarding me holding on for dear life.
--> instead of taking constructive criticism you have tried to break down what i said and turn it around.... you sir (the owner) were not on the boat... you were safely on land.

Firstly, this review is written under a pseudonym rather than a real name. I provided a polite and factual response to the original review to clarify several incorrect and misleading statements. Instead of accepting that clarification, the edited response continues to repeat claims that demonstrate a clear lack of understanding of offshore boating and fishing operations.
For clarity: I am the owner of the business and the skipper who operated the vessel on this charter. I was not “safely on land,” as claimed.
Before departure from the pontoon, a comprehensive safety briefing was conducted for all passengers. This included the location and correct fitting of lifejackets, abandon-ship procedures, man-overboard procedures and the location of the life ring, the location and use of onboard safety equipment (including two life rafts, fire extinguishers, first-aid kit and EPIRB), as well as instructions for the marine toilet and the location of drinking water. Upon arrival at the fishing grounds, the deckhand also delivered a fishing and safety briefing, including how to safely secure hooks and sinkers to prevent them swinging dangerously. To state that the crew “made no effort to ensure safety” is a blatant lie.
Regarding the claim of “holding on for dear life”: sea conditions on the day were very calm by offshore standards, with light winds of around 10 knots and swell well under half a metre. At no point were conditions unsafe. Some vessel movement is normal in open water and should be expected on an offshore fishing charter.
You made the comment about holding on for dear life, I addressed it and you have since edited it out.
Offshore boats are not “parked.” The vessel was correctly anchored. Once anchored, a boat naturally aligns according to wind, swell and current — not skipper preference. The boat was bow-to the prevailing conditions, which is standard and safest offshore practice.
Accurately anchoring over small reef systems requires precision. The correct procedure involves locating fish on the sounder, accounting for wind and current direction, positioning the vessel well up-current (often over 100 metres), deploying the anchor and allowing the vessel to settle back onto the mark. Many reefs are small — often less than half the size of a football field — and this is the only reliable way to fish them effectively.
Claims about advice from “other charter operators” are unsubstantiated. No experienced offshore operator would attempt to hold a vessel sideways or deploy a second anchor in 40–50 metres of water due to the very real risk of fouling anchor lines and disabling the vessel. Suggestions to the contrary demonstrate a lack of understanding of offshore safety and anchoring procedures.
In relation to crew interaction: both skipper and deckhand are available throughout the trip to assist when required. Assistance is provided as needed without unnecessarily hovering over passengers. Our crew also work long offshore days and are entitled to brief meal breaks while maintaining customer safety and service at all times.
Fishing can be unpredictable. On this particular afternoon the bite was slower than hoped, so multiple locations were tried. For the final part of the trip, the decision was made to switch to trolling lures — a proactive and common strategy aimed at targeting larger pelagic species such as mackerel or marlin. This was explained onboard at the time and is done to maximise opportunity rather than simply returning early.
For balance, another customer on the same charter left the following 5-star review:
“Skipper did well, tried heaps of spots but no luck today. Will still be back to try get the big ones we got last time. Deck hand was also great.”
We stand by the professionalism of our crew, the safety of our operation and the decisions made on the day. Readers with experience in boating and offshore fishing will understand the explanations above.

Today we went on our Deep-sea Fishing Charter with True Blue Fishing Charters off the Gold Coast. It was a nice day out on the water. Liam came close to catching a fish - having his line tangled with another angler and picking up a small one. The highlights were one fisher's battle with a Black tip reef shark and another's battle with a 40+kg Black King Fish, which we all took home all share of. Liam's (and my) first deep-sea charter and I'm glad I got to share it with him. We are out eating dinner at Peter's Fish market and have 2 huge fillets of the King Fish to make into curry for another night.

I booked a Sunday fishing trip with True Blue a week in advance. We left home at 4:00 AM and arrived at the marina at around 5:40 AM, only to be informed by the True Blue staff that there were not enough boats available today and the trip could not proceed.
This last-minute notice was completely unexpected and extremely inconvenient. There was no prior communication, no explanation, and no proper solution offered. Such handling shows a clear lack of responsibility and respect for customers’ time and plans.
I am very disappointed with this experience. I will not book with them again, and I do not recommend their service.

Hi Lu
I am sorry we had to turn you away at the wharf this morning. Unfortunately, when the crew tried to start the boat this morning at 5:20am. It would not start. They called me immediately and I tried to run through some fault finding with them in an attempt to rectify the problem and save the trip. It's a relatively new modern engine controlled by an ECU (computer). It was running fine when the guys got back yesterday afternoon and there was absolutely no indication that it would fail to start this morning. I understand your disappointment, but this is just an unfortunate situation beyond our control. If we had of been aware of the problem yesterday, we would have called you to cancel.
You were advised to call our office after 8am once it opens. At which point you will be offered a full refund or the option of rescheduling your trip to another day with a discount applied. There was an explanation given and you were advised that a refund would be available to you. Its disappointing that you have left a review before even calling our office so we can offer a solution.

Terrible experience - the weather was terrible and we knew before we left that it was, netherless the captain decided to go out fishing anyway. Dangerous and unsafe. I will never trust this charter company again.
