Be Cautious - When buying top soil
Be cautious if you're planning to order topsoil or mushroom soil from The Yard. The soil they delivered to me had a very dark, black color, and upon closer inspection, it appeared to contain a significant amount of black mulch.
If you're using this soil for a vegetable garden, this can be a serious concern, as dyed mulch is often made with synthetic chemicals that may be toxic to edible plants.
After receiving my delivery, I contacted the company to express my concern. Surprisingly, I was told that about 50% of their customers call back with the same issue—thinking the soil contains black mulch. However, the company insists that it does not, and that all those customers must be mistaken.
It’s concerning that such a high number of customers report the same problem, yet the company denies any issue. I just want others to be aware and do their own research before using this soil for anything sensitive like food crops.
