Real ale. Great choice ( a bit pricey) for the area. Well kept.
Place for serious real ale beards! Not families or date night.
Has a train departure board inside linked to Paignton station. So you cannot miss your train

Very pleasantly surprised to find this Craft Beer focussed bar open just across the road from the station, serving up to 13 keg taps with a varied line up of styles and ABVs largely from regional and national breweries such as Verdant and SALT, 2 cask ale hand pumps with local real ales from South Devon, plus a cider bar and a fridge of cans.
They also have a good menu of pub snacks and mains. I had the Korean Fried Chicken, which for a bar of its type was way above expectations - it looked and tasted superb. Food is not served all days of the week, so ensure you check with the bar beforehand.
Bar staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I was given a hefty unsolicited discount for a can despite drinking it in (usually cans are discounted 10% for take out).
Prices were, for someone from the South East, really good value - £4.20 for a pint of cask real ale, keg prices on average £5.60-£6 except for the higher ABV/rarer style beers which were understandably quite a bit higher. All available in thirds, halves and full pints. Current menu can be seen on Untappd.
I understand this venue is fairly new, and whilst it wasn’t packed out on a Saturday night, there was a steady flow of people and it felt very atmospheric, comfortable and relaxed. Best of luck to the management and owners with this venture: There aren’t too many bars like this in the area, or even the region, so I can see this getting very busy during the Summer.
EDIT 14/6/24: this review has aged amazingly. I finally worked out what “upside” in this context means - you are unlikely to open a bar in Exeter put it that way!. Dean, who was serving me at Paignton at the time I initially reviewed, has moved to the wonderful new Newton Upside bar. No disrespect to him but Nat and Kerry in Paignton now are simply wonderful, approachable, welcoming and I loved to stand at the bar chatting (with others) to them - possibly for too long. A truly wonderful place.

Nice little micropub in the centre of Paignton. Really good beer and cider selection on tap plus also sell some nice niche beer styles such as Lambic. Food offering looked very good. Bar is also verified on Untappd app so can see beer availability in advance which is a plus.

Discovered recently and well it's brilliant , proper craft beers ( 15 different ones at time of visit) , landlord was very
friendly and knowledgeable about the beers .
Cracking bar that needs to become a firm hit with the locals
It reminded me of a Belgian style bar no commercial euro fizz they sell proper beers.

Gap in buses means time to wander into Paignton. You had me at "Craft" as far as the beer was concerned. It's May so Mild was always on the cards. Great staff and great beer in a chilled atmosphere with a good selection and cans and bottles in fridges. A reason to walk off when waiting at the bus or train station (lice departure boards for trains too).

Excellent range of beers, local and nation wide, upwards from £4.40 a pint of local Reel Ale. The bar is comfortable and larger than expected from the understated frontage with a friendly barman. Gluten free cans of Arbor available. The cider vinegar crisps inexplicably contain milk though which I’m not good with. Handy for the station with live departures and interesting historical train paraphernalia. A must visit for beer enthusiasts and their long suffering carers!

Makes Paignton worth visiting! Fantastic beer bar with excellent range of cask and keg beers. Friendly and knowledgeable service. Food menu looked excellent but not timetabled by us. We’ll do that another time. First Class.
