We have been going to the rams head inn for 8 years and have never ever experienced such horrible service. We had a massive party of about 15 people and a few children. We were seated at 7pm and as soon as the waitress saw how many people her eyes lit up with $$. We ordered drinks and children’s food and bread as soon as we saw the waitress. After a long wait, we still only had our drinks no bread no food after we had asked the waitress multiple times where the appetizer and children’s food was (chicken fingers) and she proceeded to tell us she had forgot to put in the order and would handle it. After over an hour and 20 minutes we had no BREAD or children’s food we decided we were not staying for food because of how poor the service. The service was horrible and we are extremely disappointed that this happened after 8 years . We were left there with no food, horrible service and starving children!! Will not be recommending this to anyone!!
WARNING: If you decide to stay here make sure valuables jewelry money etc are out of view or locked up .or have your own hidden camera anyway ..sat July 6th I went out to get coffee and explore the island when I returned I noticed my bed was made up ( cleaning crew were in the hallway when I left ) a used coffee cup with coffee in it sitting next to the magazine on the nightstand I thought was odd because I knew I didn’t drink coffee that morning and then I noticed that earrings I had laying there on the magazine were missing ..( I made sure I locked the door before I left) .. I went through the whole room and my car just to make sure I didn’t misplace them or blame someone ..They had been there since 4th of July ( I took them off that evening they were cute sparkly flag earrings I got a lot of compliments on them not expensive but that wasn’t the point) This was July 6th I spoke to the front desk person who put me in touch with the mgr who asked me to come into a private dining room and explained how sorry she was how the owner was shocked nothing like this had ever happened I could file a police report etc and that they take this very serious would follow up asap .. 9 days later after hearing nothing I called them next day received a call from the same mgr who spoke with the cleaning crew and of course nobody knows anything ..professionally I believe the owner should have called me ..That would have been the appropriate response.. Needless to stay when I come back to shelter island ..I won’t be staying at Rams head Inn .( Btw : I’m not the complaining type I’ve stayed in numerous BnBs hotels motels etc and in all my 59 years nothing like this has ever happened ..I was disheartened and honestly I felt violated because up until then I really enjoyed everything about the place…)

The Ram's Head Inn is a perfect example of an Inn with everything at it's fingertips, with no idea how to treat its customers. While the grounds and Inn itself are beautiful, I was quite disappointed at the level of service for the rate of over $550 per night. Not only was our room incredibly cramped and small (lacking basic equipment such as hair dryers, iron, etc.), and the service at the restaurant for dinner was painfully slow and inattentive, but the one thing an Inn of this caliber which claims it has free breakfast should provide - a hot, homemade breakfast, was not provided. The cheap, cold bites and Keurig coffee was not a welcoming sight. They clearly wanted us to wait until 11am to buy breakfast from their sub-par, overpriced restaurant. Additionally, the woman behind the counter had an attitude. The whole time I was there, I felt as though I was burdening them by my presence. Save yourself the anguish and don't stay here!
