Throughout this process, he has been supportive and has made me feel heard and understood. He takes my concerns seriously, validates what I’ve been going through, and makes me feel like I have someone in my corner who genuinely cares about helping me. Having someone who listens, offers guidance, and stands by you during a difficult situation means a lot. I truly appreciate his support and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a lawyer who is knowledgeable, understanding, and willing to stand up for his clients.
“You’re the common denominator”
I paid $520 for a consultation with Brian Davalos while I was without counsel and seeking help in a serious family-law matter involving domestic violence and custody. The consultation was originally scheduled in person. Three days beforehand, his office emailed that “the attorney has a family emergency” and asked to change it to phone or Google Meet. I accommodated the request. His office invited me to provide materials beforehand, which I did. I specifically explained that I wanted him to get an overall understanding of the case and the ongoing abuse. The Google Meet ultimately became a telephone consultation. During that call, Mr. Davalos told me directly: “It looks like you’re the common denominator.” He then said he wanted authorization to speak with my previous attorneys and obtain additional information before deciding whether he would represent me. That contradiction is exactly my concern. If additional investigation was necessary to understand what happened with prior counsel, why make a negative judgment about me before conducting that investigation? He could have reviewed the materials, asked questions, requested additional information, rescheduled, or declined the case. I had already accommodated his family emergency. Instead, I paid $520 for professional legal advice while seeking help concerning domestic violence and custody and was treated in a manner I found aggressive, judgmental, and demeaning. I declined to proceed and requested my refund the following day. I then had to follow up, and the firm did not confirm that my refund check was being mailed until March 12. Since then, concerns involving prior attorneys have proceeded through formal fee arbitration. I have obtained an arbitration award in my favor in one matter, with others still proceeding. I do not criticize an attorney for declining a case. I criticize prejudging a paying prospective client before obtaining the information he himself said he needed. Investigate first. Reach conclusions second. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Brian Davalos or Davalos Law Firm.
Divorcing is so very hard and emotional. It makes you angry. In my short conversation initial call with Stephanie yesterday, she asking my information and then telling me I need to pay $500 +4% service fee if I choose to use my credit card and me expressing dismay with a $500 consultation fee just to meet the Attorney someone I do not know anything about, that I do not know if I will have a rapport with. Long story short, Stephanie hangs up on me. Divorce hurts , trying to get a consultation with an attorney for advice should not hurt.

Since posting this review and since my divorce was finalized in mid-August, my experience has unfortunately changed. Despite my $1,000 payment to your firm specifically to finalize and submit my retirement documents--documents I signed in January of last year--no retirement paperwork has been submitted to date. I confirmed this directly with the union.
I want to be clear that the legal representation during the active phase of my divorce was strong; however, the lack of follow-through, communication, and resolution of agreed-upon post-judgment obligations has been disappointing and stressful. I hope this matter is resolved promptly, as I trusted the firm to complete these final steps and retained funds specifically for that purpose.

scheduled an initial meeting online and waited but they never called me. I called them ten minutes after and counsel was not available. Paralegal wanted a $500 deposit to schedule a meeting that would be 3 days after a court hearing I needed legal representation for. No offer of continuance, no advice, nothing.
