I've trained at a variety of martial arts gyms in Minnesota and absolutely no gym will top The Academy MN. One thing that separates The Academy MN from other gyms is how qualified the coaches are and how the gym has a background of professional athletes which proves its reliability and credibility. Another thing that sets this place apart from other gyms is how the classes are scheduled. There’s many classes with different qualified instructors just about every convenient time of the day! In my experience, I’ve seen no other gym with this amount of effort to appease to their gym members’ needs when it comes to convenient class times throughout the day. Coaches and classes aside, the facility is top notch. There is plenty of mat space topped with a gym as well. The gym has everything you need to get stronger along with everything you need to get your cardio in! Finally, the community. The Academy MN is home to the best martial arts community in the state of Minnesota! Coaches and members are always willing to work with you and help out! You will definitely meet new people just about every single day that are all willing to train and have a good time! Best coaches, best classes, best facility, best community. 10/10.
I had the privilege to do a no-gi BJJ class today, while visiting the state of Minnesota. In just about an hour and fifteen minutes of training I learned about 4 new things that I can't wait to drill and add to my skill set. Instructors were great and very patient with me and staff were very friendly.
I decided to take the intro class and everyone was super nice and friendly. This places is definitely different, everyone is supportive, the coaches are great, there’s a strong sense of community once you actually get to know everyone. I can’t wait to be able to come back and train! I can’t believe the improvement I made in a year training here, I got to feel more confident about my skills, strength and myself in general. I highly recommend joining!
The gym is amazing, the people are amazing Greg Nelson and his team know more than any of these reviews will say. I spent a month there training and watching them. I was in awe and very eager to advance onto the next level, however I had life hit me hard at the worst time so I had to be selfless and stop training. If I could afford to train now, I know at some point those guys would be in my corner watching me win and represent the academy to my best. You won’t go wrong by signing up. The academy is where you need to be.
Do not sign a contract with them. They are very inviting and seem trustworthy until you sign their sneaky contract. The only thing they care about is getting as much money out of you as possible. They will tell you as they told me in person that you can “cancel anytime”. Which is a complete lie as in the contract they state you must give them written notice 30 days before cancelling. Which means you will have to pay for a full additional month before you can actually cancel. When you do give them your written notice of cancellation, don’t be surprised when you ask for a copy back with their signature and their “printer isn’t working”.although their printer works just fine when they try and make you sign another paper stating you will not dispute their next charge. A complete slimy and scammy business run by people who don’t care about what’s fair and only care about how much money they can suck out of you.
