Made our way all the way here just to find out they were closed. Fix your ours.
Reply from Quirk 2026.08.30
Hi Karolina, I’m genuinely sorry you made the trip and found us closed. I understand how frustrating that must have been. I do want to offer some context, particularly because a one-star review can have a significant impact on a very small independent business.

Quirk is currently a team of one. I’m also living with a brain tumor, and there are occasionally days when my health requires me to step away or change our hours unexpectedly. Los Angeles is also experiencing an extreme heat wave, which has made this an especially difficult week.

At the same time, I’m running our nonprofit community work supporting people who lost their homes in the Los Angeles fires. Between the shop and that work, I haven’t taken a vacation in over a year. I share that not because I expect customers to know what is happening behind the scenes, but because small businesses are run by human beings, and sometimes circumstances arise that simply cannot be anticipated.

We keep a phone number posted on our door so that anyone who finds us unexpectedly closed can reach us, and we do our best to keep our hours current online when last-minute changes happen.

I completely understand being disappointed that we weren’t open when you arrived. What is difficult is receiving the lowest possible rating from someone who has never actually had an experience inside Quirk, with our merchandise or our service, based solely on an unexpected closure.

I hope you’ll consider visiting us another time and, if you do, judging this little business on the experience you actually have here. We’d be happy to welcome you.

This is such a fabulous find! A true gem tucked away in DTLA!! I went looking for vintage men’s items to match a watch I was gifted, and Melynda helped me pick out the most beautiful suit. She’s amazing too - she has the most fun and quirky style, but also donates clothes to victims of the wildfires. She gave me a tour of “The People’s Free Boutique” and it’s laid out to make those who have lost everything feel like they are really shopping for high-end items rather than getting things for free. I will be back to support Quirk Vintage again!!
Reply from Quirk 2026.06.10
Thank you so much, Jeremy! It was such a pleasure helping you find the right vintage men’s suit to pair with your watch. We’re so glad you discovered Quirk Vintage here in DTLA and that the styling experience felt special.

We also really appreciate you taking the time to learn about The People’s Free Boutique, our nonprofit fire-relief boutique supporting LA wildfire survivors with dignified, high-quality clothing and essentials. Creating a space where both our vintage clients and our community care work can coexist means so much to us.

Thank you again for supporting our small independent boutique in Downtown Los Angeles. We hope to see you back soon!

Not open during posted hours- a waste of time to visit. Taken at 1:10 on a Friday.
Reply from Quirk 2026.06.05
Hi Theresa, I’m sorry for the inconvenience and understand it’s frustrating to arrive during posted hours and find us away.

We were briefly a block away, assisting at our nearby nonprofit fire-relief boutique for LA Fire survivors, but we should have communicated the temporary closure more clearly. A one-star review is disappointing when we haven’t had the chance to meet or welcome you in to experience the shop, our service, or our selection, but we appreciate the feedback and will work on clearer signage going forward.

We are a very small business with a small team, and sometimes things come up. As noted on the hours sign in the photo you included in your review, we do have a contact number posted on the door for calls or texts, as well as a Ring camera for immediate contact. In the future, we hope not to miss you, but those options are always welcomed and encouraged.

Quirk is the kind of place you walk into and immediately feel like you've inherited the wardrobe of a rich, eccentric aunt who traveled the world and kept all the best pieces. Every rack feels intentional, lived in, and full of personality. Nothing feels random. Each item has a story, and you can sense it the moment you start browsing. The bag selection alone is worth the stop. There are so many standout pieces that feel like true finds, not just resale. The kind of bags you don't see twice. What really makes this place special is the owner, Melynda. She's genuinely fun to talk to and clearly passionate about what she curates. You can tell there's pride and care behind every piece in the shop. Talking with her about vintage fashion and the stories behind the items made the experience feel personal, not transactional. This ended up being one of the coolest spots I stumbled into in the fashion district. If you appreciate vintage that feels curated and soulful rather than picked over, Quirk is a must.

Thank you again, so much Liz. Your review really means the world to our small woman/POC owned biz <3. After 10 years serving the community, it's so lovely to keep meeting such awesome people and even more awesome when they take the time out of their day to leave a review.

Elizabeth, thank you so much for this. It was truly such a pleasure having you in the shop and getting to meet you.

The “eccentric aunt” feeling is exactly what I’m always thinking about when I’m sourcing and curating, making sure everything feels discovered, lived in, and full of personality rather than just racks of resale.

I’m so glad you spent time with the bags. I really try to find pieces that feel special and a little rare, the kind you don’t run into twice.

And I genuinely loved talking with you. Getting to share the stories behind the pieces and hearing what people are drawn to is one of my favorite parts of being in the shop. It makes the whole experience feel human and connected in a way that online never can.

Thank you again for coming through and supporting a small vintage shop in the fashion district. I hope we get to see you again soon.

Super cute shop in downtown Los Angeles seems to be the only place nearby selling high end true vintage clothing. Like raiding your rich aunts closet. They have a really curated selection of vintage and modern stuff, authentic designer vintage clothing and shoes. Saw a lot of Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Tom Ford Gucci. My husband got a near mint condition pair of black tom ford Gucci loafers for $400. They even had the original dust bag which was really cool. Minus one star for parking, so just be prepared to pay at the lot next door or across the street or walk. We made the mistake of driving there even though our hotel was walking distance because we were going somewhere afterwards. Otherwise, a really cool spot. The owner is a stylist and was happy to make recommendations for us while there. Oh and they sell online, too, so I guess I’ll be checking them out when I’m back in San Francisco. The owner said she has tons more on the site and plans to be an online vintage department store of sorts. Definitely recommend if you like high end unique pieces that you can’t get anywhere else but that’s also totally wearable now.
Reply from Quirk 2026.04.15
Thank you so much for this, it really means a lot. It was such a pleasure having you both in the shop and getting to talk through pieces with you.

I’m so glad your husband found those loafers. That was such a great pair, and finding them with the original dust bag always makes it feel a little extra special. Moments like that are exactly why I love what I do.

I really appreciate you noticing the mix of true vintage and more modern pieces. I try to keep everything feeling curated, wearable, and a little unexpected rather than overwhelming.

And thank you for mentioning the online shop too. I’m always adding more, so hopefully next time you’re browsing from San Francisco you’ll find something that feels just as good as discovering it in person.

Also completely hear you on parking. Downtown LA definitely has its quirks, but there are a few nearby lots and it’s usually a bit easier if you plan ahead or walk in when you can.

Thank you again for coming through and for the thoughtful review. I’d love to see you both again next time you’re in Los Angeles.

An absolute gem of a boutique, with a constant stream of unique vintage pieces! I was able to get the perfect dress, pumps, handbag, and hat for a formal tea at very short notice. The store is easy to access in the second floor of a fashion design building. The owner is a talented costume designer with a wealth of experience from film and more. Whether you go in with a decade-specific goal in mind, or are just looking for a special treasure, you will surely find something magical!!!

Raine, thank you so much. This really means a lot.

Always such a pleasure having you in the shop and getting to work together. Pulling that whole look together on a time crunch really did feel like a bit of magic, and you made it easy.

I’m so glad you found pieces that felt special. That’s always the goal, whether someone comes in with something very specific in mind or is just exploring and seeing what speaks to them.

And I really appreciate you mentioning my background as well. My work in costume design and styling definitely shapes how I curate the shop and how I help people put things together in a way that feels intentional and personal.

Thank you again for your continued support and for such a thoughtful review. Always looking forward to the next time.

I appreciate what Quirk is doing and helping restoring the lives of those affected by the fires!!! It's always a humbling experience to give back to the community and receive services. Melinda (even tho' I'm so spelling her name wrong lol sorry) is always a cup of joy and so supportive. You are such a gem along with your team. I look forward to watching the free peoples boutique grow along with quirk. Thank you once again and words can never describe what an impact you have shown towards myself, family, friends and community.

Zina, thank you so much for this beautiful review. And don’t worry about the spelling — I’ll answer to anything kind. :-D

It’s been an honor to support you through this chapter, and it means so much that you’ve come back not just as a visitor but as a volunteer. Seeing you jump in to help others and even be part of our goofy little IG styling videos? That’s the kind of full-circle joy that keeps us going.

The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk started as a fast response to the LA fires, but it’s become something deeper — a mutual aid hub rooted in fashion, dignity, and connection. We’ve always believed vintage clothing carries stories, and you’ve added so much heart to ours.

Thank you for showing up with humor, generosity, and style. We’re lucky to have you in this community.

Ten out of five stars for Melynda and her all volunteer Quirk crew for creating the People's Free Boutique in an unused corner space in DTLA, providing much needed, intentional, and high quality clothing and supplies for those of us who lost everything in LA's January fires. My family and I came to Quirk and were welcomed with care and respect, mirroring the quality and thoughtfulness of the clothing offered, and being given the dignity of choice to dress ourselves in clothing that we prefer. The Quirk crew were professional and kind, dealing with a gradually melting down child and frazzled adults, recognizing and validating the collective trauma of their guests, and providing a space of hope, solace, and care out of the goodness of their hearts. I was able to restock much of my professional and casual wardrobe, grab some high quality toiletries, kids clothing, and an epic penny board for my kid. I cannot recommend a visit to the People's Free Boutique and Melynda's Quirk store on 9th enough!

Hunter, ten stars right back at you. Reading this genuinely got me choked up.

We started The People’s Free Boutique in a hurry, trying to turn a forgotten showroom across from the shop into something useful after the fires. But it’s become so much more. Seeing your family find things that fit, feel good, and let you be yourselves again… that’s what keeps us going. I’m especially proud of matchmaking your son with his very first skateboard. That moment lit me up.

People keep saying “it’s just stuff,” but it’s not. The things we choose to wear, hold, or keep close carry stories. They remind us who we are, where we’ve been, or who we’re becoming. No one gets to decide what matters to you except you.

Thank you for showing up with your full self and for letting us do the same. We’re so grateful to have you and your family in this community, even if the reason we met was through loss.

Melinda who started and runs Quirk the people free boutique is so amazing upbeat and selfless to continue to help all of us that lost our homes. Quirk has been a loving space for me to get help to start over again and a big part of my healing journey I have visited a couple of times and found wonderful clothes to help me get back to work and visit my son at college. It is organized, clean and has great donations. I am forever grateful and count Melinda as a new friend. I also met many other fire victims and ran into old friends. Had been a wonderful place for me as I begin my healing journey. 5 stars plus another 5 stars.

Darby, your words really landed. Thank you for sharing this — I’m so moved by your honesty and the way you framed your journey.

We started The People’s Free Boutique inside Quirk as a scrappy little idea, but the way it’s grown into a community hub is because of people like you. Knowing you found clothes that helped you show up for your life — for work, for your son, for yourself — is everything. And hearing that you’ve run into old friends or found new ones here makes me want to cry in the best way.

Clothing may not be everything, but it's never just stuff. What we put on our bodies can help us feel rooted again, especially when everything else feels upended. Thank you for allowing us to be part of that process. We’re honored to have you in our orbit. And yes — we’ll be ready with more great pieces whenever you come by next.

With deep gratitude,
Melynda

Quirk for Fire Vicitms has been such a special place for me. I have found wonderful clothes to get myself started after losing my home in Pacific Palisades. Darby, thank you for this. I’ve been thinking about how clothes carry stories, and it means so much to know that The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk helped you feel a bit more like yourself again.

This project grew out of our vintage shop, Quirk, as a direct response to the LA fires — but it’s evolved into something much deeper. It’s become a space for healing, community, and using personal style as a form of self-expression and recovery. Seeing you light up over a great piece, or connect with someone else doing the same, is the reminder I didn’t know I needed.

I can’t wait to see you again — and hopefully meet your son. We have some new goodies on the way, so please come back in soon :)

We’re so lucky to have you as part of this.

See you soon!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Reading your words truly made my day. When we first created The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk, our hope was to offer something that felt genuine and uplifting for anyone going through a tough time.

It means everything to know that you felt the warmth of our volunteers and the heart behind this space. Although The People’s Free Boutique runs separately from our Quirk showroom in Downtown Los Angeles, it is rooted in the same belief: that fashion, dignity, and community support can help rebuild lives after hardship.

Thank you for seeing the spirit behind what we are building. Every kind review like yours helps us continue to grow this effort with love and purpose.

After I lost my home in the Eaton Fire, I desperately needed clothes to wear to the office. I was thrilled to find some beautiful pieces at the People's Free Boutique by Quirk. Everything was clean, well sorted, in good condition, and I even found some pieces that still had tags on them! I am so grateful for those who donated the clothing, and the very kind and caring volunteers! Thank you!

Thank you so much for your beautiful words and for sharing a piece of your journey. I am so sorry for what you and your family have faced after the Eaton Fire, and I am truly honored that we could offer even a small sense of support when you needed it most.

For anyone reading, this experience was part of The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk, a mutual aid project we created to help fire-affected families and neighbors rebuild with dignity, care, and community. This effort is separate from our Quirk showroom in Downtown Los Angeles, but it carries the same spirit of empowerment, dignity, and compassion that we believe fashion and personal style should always embody.

It means the world to know that you felt welcomed and cared for when you visited. Every donation, every rack of clothing, and every volunteer's effort is fueled by love for our community and the belief that everyone deserves to feel whole again after hardship.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Your resilience and kindness inspire us to keep showing up every day.

My mom and I found the Peoples Free Boutique by Quirk after the fires devastated our neighborhood in Altadena. We've been building care boxes for an entire group of people, not just ourselves, and were welcomed into the space. It allowed us to recreate beautiful closets in a safe space, which has become harder to find as the relief efforts continue in the second wave. Very grateful for the energy and dedication that Melynda and her team of volunteers had shown to our community!! Go check out the Peoples Free Boutique on Spring St if you've been impacted by the fires they will help you rebuild and feel fabulous! If you weren't impacted by the fires but want to support Quirk for now you would message Melynda on Instagram to set up a shopping appointment! She's so dedicated to the relief efforts her store is still running by appointment only so she can keep the Free Boutique open! Love them!!!

Thank you so much, Adria! It has been incredible to witness your resilience and generosity after everything you and your family have been through with the Eaton and Palisades fires. We are so grateful to support your mission of helping others rebuild their closets and their confidence through The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk.

Seeing you and your mom turn around and create fashion care packages and events for your own impacted community has been one of the most inspiring parts of this whole journey. It is exactly why we launched this mutual aid project — to help restore dignity, joy, and self-expression for fire survivors when it feels like so much has been lost.

For anyone reading: Quirk is open by appointment for regular shopping, and The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk continues to serve fire-affected individuals and families for free. If you would like to support or donate, please visit our website or DM us on Instagram. Thank you for believing in what we are building!

I volunteered at The People's Free Boutique while it was still in its temporary space, and I am better for it. It is a wonderful resource, Melynda has been so organized, compassionate, and all around an amazing leader for this huge effort to assist those impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. Through some folks' worst days, Melynda and the Quirk team were there. It's amazing that Melynda has kept it up for as long as she has, and I hope the People's Free Boutique can stay open as long as there is a community need.

Jamie, thank you so much for this thoughtful review. I’m incredibly grateful for the time and heart you brought to The People’s Free Boutique, especially during our early, temporary location days.
Just to clarify for anyone reading: Quirk is our DTLA vintage and modern fashion showroom, while The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk is our mutual aid project that launched in response to the LA fires. It operates separately from our retail business and is entirely donation- and volunteer-driven.

Jamie, your support helped us provide free, dignity-based fashion and supplies to individuals and families impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires. We couldn’t have done it without community members like you showing up through it all. Thank you for being part of this ongoing mission to meet people where they are, with compassion and care.

As you know, this project began as a small pivot in response to the LA fires, and it has since grown into a full mutual aid boutique providing free, stylist-curated clothing, supplies, and emotional support to fire survivors and families in crisis. Volunteers like you are the reason it works.

You consistently show up for our community with compassion, respect, and thoughtfulness. Watching guests leave with not just clothes, but dignity and joy, is everything this was meant to be. I'm truly grateful to have you on this journey with us.

Love what Melynda with Quirk has done to help LA fire victims! She is still continuing to this day to help others in need. Thank you so much, Patricia! Your support and generosity during the height of the LA fire relief efforts meant the world to us.

You didn’t just donate—you organized a local drive in Santa Barbara, collected essential toiletries, and personally drove them down to our DTLA showroom to support The People’s Free Boutique by Quirk. Your help on the ground at our mutual aid hub came during our busiest, most intense weeks—and we couldn’t have supported over 1,500 people without volunteers like you.

Quirk started as a vintage and modern fashion showroom, but thanks to community partners like you, it became a full-scale disaster relief and mutual aid boutique—offering free, dignity-based clothing and essentials to those displaced by the wildfires.

Thank you for helping us show what fashion and community care can do when combined with purpose. 💛
