Site Kit by Google – Analytics, Search Console, AdSense, Speed Reviews

So we can determine the cause and ensure Site Kit works as expected for you, please share your Site Health information and what error message you see on your screen after installing Site Kit. It’s possible that what’s occurring is a conflict with either your hosting environment or plugins installed.
Some possible checks you can perform include checking out your hosting storage capacity, or upload maximum file size, with your hosting provider, or using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, to see if the same occurs if installing Site Kit in troubleshooting mode.
Once we have your Site Health information we can propose some troubleshooting suggestions.

Do you see any console errors when your site crashes?

Sorry to hear you’re unhappy with the set up process. We’ve tried to make the process easy for users to connect Google Analytics, so for that reason we’d love to hear more on your experience.
When you mention integration failed, did you encounter an error message or warning? If you’d like to share any such errors here I’d be happy to assist. should you be willing to give the plugin another try.

Sorry to hear you’re not happy with the plugin at present. While we have some information on the plugin website regarding performance I’m happy to address some of the comments you’ve added:
This plugin will add alot of background services to your website which will result in lower speeds.
The plugin is a wp-admin operated plugin. It doesn’t make any additional network requests to a users front end, other than from the admin toolbar, which can be switched off. As this is only visible for site admins it doesn’t impact performance for non admins. You can check this using Chrome dev tools.
I immediately noticed and removed the plugin. Once removed, my website site jump back up to 100.
I suspect this may have been as you connected some of the various Google services using Site Kit. Adding additional services, such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, or AdSense will result in additional network requests. With many factors involved in network requests there can be an impact on performance. Rather than disconnecting Site Kit and comparing performance a more ideal test is to disconnect Site Kit and then add these services manually. Then compare performance.
Site Kit only facilitates the placement of snippets for these services, and if you use your browsers developer tools you’ll find that on the front end there are no requests to any Site Kit servers, only requests to these Google services, and any services you may have added via Tag Manager.
Don’t be lazy and fall for this plugin. Manually connect the Google services you need that way the load will be pushed on Goggle’s servers and not your website.
As mentioned above, if you manually connect Google servers, without using Site Kit, there will be network requests made to these services. The code snippets Site Kit places are the same code snippets that the various Google services suggests placing on users sites.
For clarity we’ve added documentation on the code snippets added to a users site when using Site Kit. You’ll notice these snippets are the same snippets a user would place manually, if not using Site Kit, resulting in the same network requests.
If you are willing to give Site Kit another try I’d be happy to review your site with you if you wish, and check for anything unusual. We take all reports of performance seriously, and if we can find anything output on your site that is impacting performance in a way it shouldn’t we’d be happy to review your set up.

Sorry to hear you’re not happy with the plugin as it is currently. While Site Kit doesn’t have any eCommerce features within the plugin dashboards at this point, you can chime in on a related GitHub feature request relating to eCommerce:https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/459
Note also that the intention for Site Kit was also to display basic Analytics data within the plugin dashboard. For further insights, if you already have enhanced eCommerce tracking setup, there is a link to Analytics directly from within the Site Kit dashboards, where users can view more detailed information, from the Analytics platform directly.
If you’re a WooCommerce user, the plugin can work alongside any integrated Analytics feature, or third party Analytics plugins. By that I mean you can use Site Kit without the plugin inserting your Google Analytics snippet. Instead it can use your non Site Kit placed snippet. Users can then make use of the Site Kit admin toolbar for specific pages, or the basic Analytics information within the Site Kit dashboards.

Many thanks for reaching out. Based on the details you’ve provided I suspect there may be something impacting your WordPress REST API, possibly at host level. So we can determine more on this please share your Site Health information should this issue remain.
You may also wish to include any mention of whether there are any REST errors or warnings when checking your Site Health status (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information.

Sorry to read your review on the plugin. I would, however, be happy to assist you with this, should you wish to consider using the plugin once more or wish to troubleshoot any performance related issues.
In relation to any performance impact Site Kit doesn’t add any performance impacting code to a users site upon install. You can check a sites source code with and without Site Kit active, and you’ll find no additional network requests made and no additional markup other than a meta tag. If, however, users decide to connect services such as Google Analytics or AdSense to their site, whether they use Site Kit or not, there will be additional network requests made to connect your site to these services, and there are various factors here that can slightly impact performance. These are not Site Kit specific network requests, they are service level requests.
You may wish to compare performance with your site with Google Analytics, Tag Manager and AdSense added manually if you wish, and then using Site Kit to connect the same. I suspect the results will be similar.
As you mentioned you’re not finding the same performance result using another plugin I’d be happy to take a look over your site if you wish to share your Site Health information. We can then do some additional testing with Site Kit active?
