A brief stop over in Iceland We chose Icelandair for our trip to Italy with a layover in Reykjavík on our return. We had a 2 hour layover in Reykjavík and the Icelandair lounge was excellent and breaks up an otherwise long flight. Upon our return we spent 2 nights in Reykjavík. Iceland was fascinating from the geological point of view but very expensive. 2 cheeseburgers,fries and onion rings with a Pepsi and 1 glass of wine was about $80. We rented a car at the airport to facilitate our ability to see as much as possible in a limited time period. Parking is difficult to find and is also expensive. I suspect a private car from the airport would have been preferable .Our whale watching trip was spectacular on the Amelia Rose. We saw several humpbacks and thoroughly enjoy what was once a private yacht.We stayed at the Konsulat hotel,a Hilton Curio. This is a lovely small hotel but with limited foodservice.In summary, although expensive, it is well worth a trip to see such unique terrain . I would also give Icelandair 4.5 stars for service and hospitality. Its business class is more like comfort class on other airlines but its friendliness and service makes up for this.

Abusing employee It was ok with some luck to see whale tales. But what spoiled all my impressions and made me depressed was an inapropriate behavior of an employee. Instead of assisting me with getting downstairs with my kid because I had a problem with doing it correctly, he started to reprimand saying: you are a mother, how can`t you take care of you kid, read tables more attentively, etc. I was so much shoked by these words, that got stuck with a beginning panick attack. I still have no words and think it is inappropriate. An employee's role is to offer help, not judgment, and the remarks made to you were not only inappropriate but also deeply unprofessional. Very bad experience with this company.

A Must -Do if you are interested in Marine life We did the Whale watching and Marine Life cruise by Sea Trips Reykjavik -booked at a discounted rate through Get Your Guide. The cruise on vessel Amelia Rose set out at 0915 and we were at sea for about 3-3.5 hours. We were lucky to spot a humpback whale about 45minutes to 1 hour after we started and we could see it in its natural habitat very close to the vessel for almost an hour + . The tour guide Julian was an enthusiastic lady who gave us good background information and fascinating facts on whales and on how to spot them.The vessel itself was cosy and comfortable with a bar /cafe and rest rooms and seating space inside . However you are most likely to be out on the deck to watch the whales as close as possible - it can be quite windy and wet - hence make sure to dress up accordingly .The check in for the cruise operated by Sea trips happens at a restaurant called Old Harbour House - you will get a 15% discount voucher for lunch or dinner at the same restaurant- not at all a bad deal considering how expensive Iceland is. The sighting of whales is not guaranteed - however if you fail to spot one, the tour operator will offer you spots on subsequent tours at no additional cost

No whales spotted this time ! Went out on a RIB with Julian. Disappointedly no Whales were spotted just a couple of white beaked Dolphins but that’s nature. It was a shame as sighting of humpbacks have been consistent through the rest of the week. Return visit offered so guess we’ll be returning to Iceland again sometime soon!

Whale watching tour The trip itself was amazing - we saw humpback whales, puffins, dolphins and geese and the guide was really informative with lots of knowledge about local species and tips on how to more easily spot the whales. However, I was really disappointed...sickened actually, to discover that whales are still killed for meat in this country, mostly for export to other countries but many for serving in Icelandic restaurants. This wasn't mentioned as part of the tour. I feel that if this company is serious about protecting whales then this sort of trip (where people get to feel a real connection with these animals) should have at least brought this practice to our attention.

Feeding frenzy of whales! We had the most amazing trip. Saw a feeding frenzy of several Humpback Whales, enhanced with loads of playful dolphins. Very fortunate. Also, my husband couldn’t come on the trip due to illness, and his ticket was refunded immediately- so efficient and hassle-free. Great boat with different viewing decks and plenty of indoor seating areas to warm up. Even gave out free seasickness tablets.
