Perfect peace! Nothing compares with the beauty of the mountains and location of Rusty Gate Retreat. This is the best venue to recollect and recharge - the accommodation is beyond special, everybody's needs catered for, warm and comforting. The surroundings provide for plenty of deep quiet time, walking, cycling, fishing etc. The perfect location for a special event.

50th Birthday Celebration with Friends & Family. We hired out the Amazing & comfortable 5 Cottages & Eyrie. Breathtaking Rusty Gates : Bokkie the Owner & Dalene for catering to our every whim. Thank you so much for hosting us…Everything was just perfect & amazing. The breath taking views of the mountains & scenery. I just wanted to say that myself and every one of the guests had an amazing time. They were so impressed with Rusty Gates.. It was so special having all the family & friends gathered together from near & far...… Just Amazing. The celebration was perfect in every way. Thank you for making my 50th Birthday one to remember. From the delicious food that was supplied by Leon & his Team on the Friday night. Delicious Butter Chicken & all the yummy accompaniments. & For Ulie & Team for catering on the Saturday night...….. A feast of Delicious Lamb Spit and sides.. Thank you for suppling me with their details. Amazing chefs….So much food left on Friday we ate the rest for Lunch on Saturday and some. To the beautiful clean…fully equipped cottages & Eyrie. All the wood that you supplied the personal touches & extra`s. The beautiful décor. It was such a treat & a stunning extra to be able to pick the proteas. They were such a beautiful addition to the décor. Thank you. Your beautiful slice of Heaven was captured in many photographs. We hiked & swam & cycled. We just can`t wait to come back. What a special place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can honestly say that this is truly the best piece of Heaven we have ever stayed at. We have travelled extensively around South Africa & beyond. Thank you....

Lovely mountain getaway Beautiful, neat cabins that have everything you need for a pleasant winter getaway, including fireplaces, electric blankets and a gas heater to keep warm while listening to the rain falling on the roof. There are easy to hard trails for hiking, a braai and a luxuriously massive bathtub. Thank you, Rusty Gate, for a lovely stay.

Amazing Place! Excellent accommodation with magnificent views and running/hiking trials. The weather was not great while we were there but they had a dam with kayaks and a zip-line. Kitchen is well stocked with everything you can think of in terms of cutlery and crockery. Whole experience was lovely.

A safe haven in a storm! We had cold bad weather, but the facilities were warm and dry – there is a little iron wood stove in all the sitting areas. The views when the clouds cleared are to die for, with well maintained hiking routes on the farm. The Proteas was in full bloom and decorated the rooms in the Eagle’s Eyrie where we stayed. The bookshelves and pool table also got much attention. But the best feature was that kitchen!!! If you go in a group and must cook together, this was heaven. I am considering a career change to become a cook after their lovely kitchen!(herb garden and lemon tree outside back door)

Rusy Gate Eagles Eyrie Review Stayed at Rusty Gate to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with friends. We had a superb weekend! The facilities are 5-star and exceptionally clean. The staff were efficient and friendly. The linen is luxurious. We didn't lack a thing and had plenty of activities to do. Highly recommend.We will be back.

Well appointed cottage in the countryside. Beautifully decorated cottage with a modern and well equipped kitchen on the border of the Riviersondereind Nature Reserve. We really enjoyed the hikes through stunning indigenous countryside with swimming in the rivers and zip lining into the dam. We are very keen to return.

Superior in every way Rusty gate is a hidden gem. The scenery is like no other, cottages superb and so well kitted and there is so much to do we couldn’t fit it all into the weekend. Cannot wait to go again!

3rd visit to Rusty Gate Mountain Retreat and we'll be back again for sure! Absolutely love this place. The cottages are so well equipped, it really is a home away from home. The nature is perfect to reset from city life. The hiking trails are well marked and the dam is the perfect swimming spot.

Incredibly beautiful, superb views and accommodation. What an amazingly beautiful place with the most incredible views, mountain pools and hiking trails. Accommodation is superb for big groups of family or friends. It has everything you want and more. Greyton is around the corner for a visit to this quaint town.

Absolute heaven on earth If you ever need to get out of Cape Town (a mere 2 hours drive!) and need to find yourself in heaven then stay at Rusty Gate Mountain Retreat. Perfect for a special occasion to book on an exclusive use (which we did) or just a perfectly appointed and decorated cottage. This is my new favourite! They have everything you can think of and more. Go!!

Close to paradise Our third visit and not our last. In summer this place is close to paradise, even though we had almost one day of thunderstorms in a long weekend, with torrential rain and hail. The dam is simply blissful on hot summers days, and usable from sunrise till sunset. The whole place is in tip-top conditions, cottages better equipped than ever, with everything one needs for a weekend away. The walking and cycling trails have been significantly improved and were in great condition. I wouldn't change a thing, and we'll be back.

Mountain break away Immaculate bedding in a perfectly furnished cottage by the river in the mountain: cannot ask for a better break away. We didn’t eat there because we were attending a wedding at Elandskloof the farm next door but we found the kitchen well supplied. Don’t forget anything though because the shops are 30 minutes away!
