There are no words to express how impressed I am with how Brandi and Perry of Ridgeside K9 have helped me with my dog, Bandit. Bandit was my first foster dog and after a few weeks we decided to adopt him. He's a 9-month-old Aussie Shepherd mix and it was obvious that he needed some training to help make him the best possible version of himself. After his training I noticed a difference in Bandit right away. A few examples of this are: I was able to have Bandit sit on his cot while I put together a chair for my home office. This is something that never would have happened without the training from Brandi and Perry. Bandit would have been all over me and the box and just getting in the way while I put together the chair. Another moment that impressed me was when I was walking Bandit. He no longer pulls on his leash, and he very rarely reacts to people and/or dogs that pass by anymore. I even had a situation where two people saw me walking Bandit and decided to ask me some questions regarding Bandit and during the whole conversation Bandit sat right next to me and didn't bark, didn't pull his leash and just sat and smiled. It was amazing! Also, another thing I loved is that when the turnover happened, Perry spent 3-4 hours with my husband and I teaching us the proper communication and commands that Bandit has learned that will help keep him on the right path. It's important to know that owners have to also follow the rules they're taught to help maintain your dogs. Oh, and one more thing, I got updates every night regarding Bandit and his progress I highly recommend hiring Brandi and Perry of Ridgeside K9, LLC for your dogs training. I can't say enough great things about them

We had the pleasure of working with Zach for both the puppy and adult training board and train for our golden retriever puppy. Each time, we received the run down of all that was going to be taught while away, daily updates with pictures/videos, and an extensive breakdown and guided instructions for how to implement what was taught to our pup in the home. Zach took in and cared for our dog as if she was his own, and we really appreciated that! We also appreciate the lifetime ability to ask any and all questions. We loved everything about our training experience with Ridgeside and Zach and couldn’t be happier with the results and care!

We had an absolutely incredible experience with Ridgeside! Erin was our trainer for our two new dogs, Tony, currently just over 6 months old and Larson, about 2 years old. Both are rescues and each had unique challenges. We ideally wanted to be able to have them be in the room together and not play constantly… playing is great but it was endless. We also wanted them to be good with other dogs and calm on leashes. Erin truly did wonders with both of them! We can calmly hang out and watch a movie with the two little guys just cuddled up on top of each other. The comfort they feel with one another is so inspiring, and it’s made our family so incredibly happy. I don’t have anything but positive words here. Thank you everyone at Ridgeside K9!!

We sent our two rescue pitties to Gina for three weeks and had the most amazing experience! She was able to work with our strong, leash reactive dogs and show them how to behave and react appropriately. She sent us daily updates throughout the 3 weeks, highlighting what the dogs were learning, how they were doing, and what we as dog owners needed to know to continue the training. Her skill, expertise, and attention to detail showed, as well as her kindness and passion for dogs. She welcomed our dogs into her home and taught them more in three weeks than we could have ever imagined. After three weeks, she spent hours walking us through the training, taught us how to apply it at home, and continues to answer all of our questions. We would highly recommend Gina for any training needs - she was absolutely remarkable.

Zach H. at Ridgeside K9 Winchester, VA was an absolute GIFT to us and our 11 mo. old Malinois. We are so grateful to him. We are a 3x Malinois family over 30 years. We saw reactive behavior that had to be addressed. Our pup board trained with Zach for 4 weeks in his home. Zach gained his trust, treated him as a family member, and worked with him in many different situations (parks, stores, their training center around other dogs, dog pool). We received daily updates and photos/videos. The type of training he did is excellent for Mals because while firm and positive is effective, too heavy of a hand can easily backfire. Zach had great success and worked with me to understand the new techniques. All signs are that it has transferred to me. We can't thank Zach H. and Ridgeside K9 Winchester enough for turning us around. It was truly life changing for our family. We will continue training with them in the future.

Zach Hirmer was fantastic working with our dog, Leo. Sent updates, pics and videos virtually every day to show the progress Leo was making. It was clear from day one how much he cared about Leo. Once he returned with Leo he sat with us first and very clearly explained our new methods and instructions for how we need to manage and support Leo who came back a changed dog no barking, being disobedient or marking in the house. Clearly, Zach has a true passion and gift for training dogs and loves what he does. Couldn’t more highly recommend Zach!

I have a 1.5 year old lab, the friendliest guy. But he is stubborn with zero recall. He is reactive. I don’t walk him. He walks me. I went into this pretty skeptical and was pretty hesitant especially with how pricey it is, but I decided to bite the bullet, because walks were miserable and I had no control. Charlie completed a three week program and let me tell you. It was WORTH. EVERY. PENNY. My dog is a new dog. He has recall now, which is pretty crazy to me. Didn’t think that was possible. Walks are enjoyable now and I’m a happy mom. I highly recommend Aaron Jeter. He’s a miracle worker. Today, I’ve done everything Aaron has taught me and honestly, it’s life changing. Charlie and I still have a lot to work on but I’m super excited for this new change. Just remember, you have to stay consistent and that’s key. If you’re hesitant like I was, just do it!! It’s an investment and it’s worth it.

Total game changer with our Golden. Brandi and her husband, both military K9 experts were amazing. My husband who was resistant now feels it was the best thing we've ever done with Charlie out of all of our 6 prior dogs.

Gina IS the dog whisperer and you can tell from the minute she meets your dog with how your pet responds to her. She just had an energy with our dog Ellie like no one else. Gina was professional, accommodating and very communicative - making sure we got daily updates with pictures and video as to any progress made that day. Our training ended with Gina giving us a full rundown of dos and don’ts, and she walked us through all the commands to ensure we can maintain Ellie’s responsiveness to these lessons. Overall, our experience with Ridgeside and Gina was fantastic and I really think Ellie enjoyed every minute under their care.

In January, I rescued a 5-year-old German Shepherd. He was a wonderful dog, but he had severe reactions to other dogs while on a leash. It was difficult to find someone willing to walk him, and taking him to public places or friends' homes where other dogs might be present was nearly impossible. After researching, I found Ridgeside K9, a highly-reviewed trainer in the area. I opted for a three-week board and train program to ensure he received ample training time. Brandi and Perry were my trainers, and they were fantastic from the start. It was tough to let my pet go for three weeks, but they sent daily pictures and updates and were always ready to answer my questions, keeping me involved throughout the process. There’s a common misconception that after board and train programs, dogs come back completely fixed—this is not true. When my dog first came home, he reacted on his first walk almost as he had before. The problem was my lack of training, not his. Unless trainers live with you for three weeks and conduct training in your own neighborhood, it's unrealistic to expect the dog to automatically adjust back at home. Especially intelligent breeds like Shepherds will test boundaries. My dog has working-dog lineage, which includes behaviors like sniffing and marking territory; these genetic traits are unchangeable. However, Brandi and Perry equipped me with the tools to manage and eventually curb his behaviors. It’s crucial to remember that training is a two-way street. Without proper training for yourself, the dog can easily revert to old behaviors. One significant point often overlooked is how the trainers teach you to communicate with your dog. Knowing simple commands like "yes" (positive) and "no" (negative) is transformative. For instance, I used to lay a blanket down for my dog to chew his bone so it wouldn’t stain the carpet. Initially, he would move off the blanket onto the carpet. Post-training, it only took a couple of corrections for him to understand that "carpet" meant no and "blanket" meant yes. Now, he stays on the blanket. Even after the program ended, Brandi and Perry continued to provide support and help with specific issues. Additionally, if you choose a board and train program, consider purchasing a raised cot from Amazon. It’s inexpensive, and your dog will already be familiar with it as a resting place. I'm very grateful to Brandi, Perry, and Ridgeside K9 for their invaluable help, which has alleviated many years of potential stress. Each breed is different, and everyone’s experience will vary. This was my experience—do not take it as gospel. Work closely with your trainer, engage fully in the process, and you will achieve the necessary results.

Ask for Zach! We sent our 8 month old, high energy GSPs with few manners and even less respect for personal space to Zach for a 3 week board and train. Throughout the entire stay Zach was super responsive and sent amazing nightly updates. It was fantastic to see them make such huge strides from the updates. Zach brought them back to us and spent 3hrs walking (teaching) us everything the dogs had learned and also how to expand upon the foundation that he and his fiancé (also a trainer) set. We can now enjoy taking them on walks and don’t have to push all of our food to the middle of the counter to keep it safe. They learned basic manners, how to listen, recall, proper door manners for greeting guests, “place” and so much more. Remember, ask for Zack!

I just got my puppy back from a 10 day puppy board and training with Brandi and Perry from Ridgeside K9. Winnie is young and I wanted to set her up for success early. In 10 days, Brandi and Perry were able to do way more in Winnie's training, than I was able to do on my own since I rescued her. I received daily updates and photos showing Winnie's progress. When it was time for Winnie to come home, Brandi brought her back and spent two hours with me filling me in on what they had done so far, demonstrated Winnie's new skills, and then Winnie and I practiced her new skills together while Brandi observed and coached me on how to continue Winnie's training. The follow-up with Brandy and Perry has been fantastic, too! Winnie will go back in a few weeks for two more weeks of training and I'm confident in Brandi and Perry giving Winnie the skills she needs to be a well trained and obedient dog.

Our GSD Ash definitely earned a special nickname as a young puppy. His desire to show off his nickname delayed his training by multiple weeks due to surgeries, but Bernie (our amazing trainer) worked with us. He spent well more than a weekend with Bernie (3 weeks to be exact) and came back as a shining example of what the training can accomplish. Bernie sent us photos/videos every day to keep us in the loop. The home human training after boarding school showed what we have to do to keep it up, and Ash has been a stellar example of what can be accomplished by a great trainer and company. I have waited to post anything until Ash had some time to show his knowledge after class. Ridgeside and their trainers (especially Bernie) are spectacular. We know where our next pup will go without question. Thank you guys!

Gina, thank you for taking great care of Rowan! We really loved seeing the picture/video updates throughout his training, and we could quickly see his demeanor changing and becoming more focused. He was like a totally different pup when he came back to us and was so much more well behaved. We look forward to practicing everything we’ve learned and building on his new skills. We appreciate the great experience with Ridgeside. All the best!

We recently sent our two pups to Ridgeside for the three week board and train with Aaron Jeter and couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. Our two rescues had a few issues they each needed to work on from a lack of recall to a “disaster on a leash.” They came back the same, playful dogs, just with an understanding of their boundaries and a respect for our commands. Recall is amazing, heal is amazing (we can walk them without dislocating a shoulder) and their place/stay is on point. We recently took them to NYC and were shocked at how well they handled the high stress environment. One of our pups even went to a dog park, which we never thought would be possible due to some dog aggression issues. In terms of Ridgeside and Aaron, nothing but great things to say. Super communicative (pics each day), the handoff was perfect and he’s answered all my annoying questions since we got them back. The pups will continue to need work (in a good way - you always have to keep learning), but Ridgeside and Aaron created the baseline and gave us and the pups the tools we need to continue to be successful.

Jonathan was truly awesome with and for our dogs Bonny and Clyde. It was obvious from the moment he came through our front door for pickup -- He is sensitive to different dog types, enjoys all of them, and is committed to enhancing their and our time together. He built a trust and bond with our 'stranger danger' Great Pyrenees Clyde, and a respected leader status with our energetic Bully-girl Bonny. We daily received both written and picture status reports from Jonathan. On turnover day, after 3 weeks in Board and Train, Jonathan spent over 4 hours with us and our grandkids training all of us! He took time to answer each and every one of our questions and didn't leave until he was sure that we were comfortable with our training and how to become successful leaders for our two canines. 'Side-eye Clyde' and 'Rambunctious' Bonny came home with a sound and respectful basis for us to continue and build upon. What a joy to walk both of them on a slack leash! With proper direction they know what is expected and pay attention to our cues. We have spent most of the time in the first few days reinforcing appropriate behavior from Bonny with the grandkids and the chickens. It is obvious that she, all of the animals, and the kids, will be benefiting from her new skills. It was also just about 'miraculous' to give one simple tone warning from the kitchen table to Clyde and watch him stop barking along the fence line and come immediately to the back door after alerting about something going on at the neighbors. No more yelling with no response! Both of the dogs are much more responsive to our engagement with them and calm around the property. I feel secure in the knowledge that Jonathan will be there and responsive to whatever additional questions we may come up with. We have two very different dogs and he was successful with both of them. We would highly recommend the quality and scope of Ridgeside K9's training, and particularly Jonathan's skill and commitment to bringing out the best in all types of dogs, and making their families successful with them.
