What a joke… $50 for 2 drinks (a double double according to staff - I mean there is no such of a thing)… no mention of an additional cover charge to head to basement… just told us to go downstairs and enjoy the party… of 8+ people. Clearer information and less attitude from staff would be appreciated. Better bars, staff and atmosphere available elsewhere. Give it a miss and go elsewhere that’s far more entertaining.
They seemed confused by the existence of queer women. Or by our interest in getting drinks at their bar lol.
The bartender said this was an event space and (politely! and lowkey vaguely!) suggested that we find a different bar to spend our night. They asked what vibe we were looking for and seemed genuinely taken aback when we were like "...pretty much any queer space would be good?" They then happily recommended Henrietta's.
It's fine if RedEye is a gay men only place, but maybe that should be advertised so queer women from out of town don't show up looking for a night out only to recieve a weird cold shoulder. It's not even that we were denied entry- we were let in and had our IDs checked, but then weren't given the chance to buy a drink? Overall a weird and disappointing experience.
I love this place! The Red-Eye transforms itself during the day and night. I first came across it a couple weeks ago while on a biz trip. It starts as a coffee spot at 8am everyday, then moves to a daytime happy hour bar, then it has fun afternoon parties downstairs, with late-night live shows upstairs. Awesome staff, great drinks, and fun mixed crowd. I can't wait to go back!
Nothing like this in California!
If heading to NYC, you must visit this spot! ☆☆☆☆☆
I love coming to Redeye! Tye and Keira are the best bartenders in the entire world to kiki with.
The first floor has amazing events every day of the week and you can come at any time. The downstairs has more “night” parties as well.
It’s one of my favorite bars, the community feeling, drinks, the campiness of the port authority, all in one.
OK, let’s do this, admitance at 20 bucks with not even a bottle of water is like what? And then 1 Heineken and 1 Red Bull 21 something more is a freaking joke, the show totally Meh… and on top of that there was another part of the bar with other type of music and you had to pay admitance AGAIN..! a double pay just to be in the bar, this is so overpriced bullshit that we left with 30 minutes, and went to Ritz, and that was a whole different experience, recommendations? Don’t go to Red Eye unless you have a lot of money to waste.
I had a great time here! The bartender was really sweet, staff was super helpful, music fit the event theme, drink price was reasonable for this area, and I felt comfortable and safe. I don't think I've ever been to a bar or nightclub where every staff member was friendly, helpful or kind. It was really nice. I would definitely come here again! Venue is on the smaller side but not in a bad way (though I imagine it probably gets really crowded during events with more turnout)
I had a terrible experience at Red Eye NY Bar. From the moment we walked in, it felt off. The atmosphere was dingy, and the lighting was way too dark, making it difficult to even read the menu. The staff seemed completely uninterested and were slow to take our orders. It took forever to get drinks, and when they finally arrived, they were overpriced and not even that good. The cocktails were watered down, and the beer selection was limited at best.
The worst part was the crowd. It was overcrowded, and there was no space to move around comfortably. The music was way too loud, making it hard to have any conversation. To top it off, the bathroom was dirty, which is never a good sign for a bar.
I don’t plan on returning. There are plenty of better spots in the area with better drinks, service, and overall experience. This place was a total letdown.
