I called PROTOCOOL for a second opinion when another company told us we needed a part replacement and 17 pounds of freon for our air conditioning unit. Alex determined that the part wasn't actually faulty and found that our unit only holds 13 pounds of freon. Unlike the first company, he gave us an honest assessment and saved us hundreds of dollars! It was fantastic working with Protocool Cooling Solutions. Chris explained the process from the start of getting the city permit to removal/installation of the hvac and final inspection. Today I was very happy that during the review at my final inspection of my hvac install, the Miramar city inspector spoke highly of Protocool before he signed passed inspection. Protocool has the HOA contract for my building and it's a constant nightmare. My unit has two AC units and when the first one needed maintenance I called them because they are the "preferred contracted vendor" and were supposed to give me a significant discount. They ended up quoting me a price 60% higher than the competition on a new unit. So I was forced to use a company with more ethical pricing.
Fast forward a year and water is pouring out of my second AC by the buckets. The techs said I need to buy a new AC and I did. But the water kept pouring in. It soon became obvious that the water is pouring into my unit from a Protocool managed master drain line and my unit was not even leaking. Costing me way over $5,000 that I did not even need to spend.
Then when Protocool was notified about the issue they took days to come. When they did show up they refused to enter the building with the manager. They also refused to check the line they manage on the roof that's leaking into my unit. Then they said they could not come back for over a week. There was so much water pouring in from the Protocool master drain line. I had to pay separate techs to re-pipe the whole drain line to prevent further leaking into my unit.
As you can see from the picture below even with the near vertical drain line installed a full pipes worth of water is near the top and about to start leaking into my unit again any minute. This has been going on for over a week and now Protocool says I need to call a plumber to fix my connection. We can all see from he pick my connection is fine and the water is pouring in from the outside in, not the inside out.
Protocool is very busy and short staffed. So they over charge and have wait times longer than the DMV. Whatever you do never put your HOA contract in the hands of this unethical AC company.
Sir, We are not a plumbing company and do NOT manage or maintain any main drain piping whatsoever. For individual condominium owners who wish to hire us, we maintain dedicated A/C unit’s drain piping UP TO the point where it connects to the building’s main drain piping. Since your A/C company couldn’t resolve the issue, your condominium association was going to pay us to determine whether there was an issue with YOUR drain piping or if it was something to do with the main drain that they would need to call a plumber for. Neither our company nor the association’s staff are comfortable entering a unit owner’s home unless it is an emergency. Had you kept the appointment time agreed upon, we could have entered and made the determination. Additionally, dispatched one of our experienced service experts and had him on site for the scheduled visit within 24 hours of the time your association made the request.
We have served 35K clients at a very high level over the past 20+ years in business. The great majority have been happy and appreciate the fairness and honesty they have been treated with. We are sorry to hear that you have a different opinion.

I've used Protocool for my last (3) service calls. The first (2) visits were ok, with a few minor things. The first technician forgot to plug back in a sensor on the compressor, resulting in the second visit due to overheating, but the (3rd) visit was the final straw. My Lennox is 10-years old (it came with the house - I've been here 2 years). Over the weekend, the system randomly shut down/came on intermittently, but would not stay running. The technician did not open the unit or test anything, he wrote in the report, "needs cleaning/flow switch trip." Well, funny thing, Protocool said the same thing on the first visit back in March 2024 and that's what they did - cleaned everything. This tech was not convinced until I took off the front panel myself. I showed him the refrigerant was still running through the lines and the compressor + fan in the condensing unit were still running. Then he did some testing on the thermostat and control board in the unit. He deduced it was not the unit cleaning/flow switch but rather the blower motor that had failed due to age. He never checked the expansion valve, never checked the refrigerant pressure on the system, never tested the capacitor, or even opened the condensing unit outside. After 3 hours (on Sunday), I had enough. I would figure it out on Monday with their office. Well, that was the worst part, I was sent an email with a lump sum proposed amount of $2,100 to replace the blower motor. I tried to inquire about the amount to understand how they got to the number, but the explanation was "It is, what it is.. that is what the national rates are to replace a blower motor." Not sure in what region, but that is asinine!
The blower motor housing is held in place by 3 screws and attaches to the blower wheel with one screw! The Lennox 1-hp motor is $500-$750 max! My message to other customers, get to know your system and go to another HVAC company. I am going to do this work myself this time around, but in the next year or so when I am looking for an entirely new system, I will be going elsewhere.
*IN RESPONSE TO THE OWNER:
I only took the front panel off after he wrote up the report that the unit needed cleaning and was getting in his van to leave. I did not trust that analysis, and I tried talking it through with him first, but he was certain it was the cleaning/flow switch (WRONG! I WOULD STILL BE WITHOUT A/C AFTER I WOULD HAVE PAID FOR AN UNCESSARY CLEANING). I, like many, do not have the time to risk fixing everything myself. I want to be served at a high level for the right price, not gouged.

Although our service experts are very skilled and experienced, our job becomes more difficult when a homeowner like yourself starts taking equipment apart when we are there in the process of checking things. Further, if you are willing and able to take the risk of DIY repairs and purchasing your own parts online as you did, them I'm not sure why you called us in the first place. We are here to serve those who are looking to be served at a high level, not those looking for self service.

We have been a customers of Protocool for close to 20 years. They have installed three air conditioning units at our home (main home a/c and a split unit in the garage). We also have a long-term service plan. Their installation work is excellent and service is superior. Staff is excellent both office and maintenance teams. We recently had some issues with the compressor on the exterior unit making excessive noise. This was a likely a faulty part from the manufacturer. I spoke to Chris Pompilio (owner) and he resolved the issue by replacing the part under warranty. I’ve known Chris since 2006 and he is very friendly, professional, technically excellent and most importantly a businessman you can rely on.

My AC stop working and the technician said he needed to change the Electrolytic Condenser and charged me 355 dollars for the service. When I google Electrolytic Condenser, does not return anything with this name. So I am not sure what was changed but cost me 355 plus the visit at a total 450 dollars. Then today, a week later, my AC stop working again. AVOID this company

Watch yourself with this company, they used to be good then few people left and new ones started, this guy comes to my house because my AC was leaking, spoke to his wife on the phone the whole time, told me the AC would need to be replaced, had a different company come in and said you just need the lines flushed, your ac has plenty of time left if the right company maintains it. BEWARE!!!

I called for an AC repair job at 2:30 pm during regular hours. They quoted me $135 after hours service call price because it took the guy two hours to reach my house so they tell me its it’s after hours. I still paid for the service call. Ray the technician did the diagnostics and said we need to replace the Electrolytic Condenser. This part is $18.85 see photo and they wanted to charge $520. A total rip off company. What a shame.
Save your money and call someone else.
Hi Kahlid. So that none of our clients overpay, we use flat rate pricing, not hourly. All pricing is also based on regional averages. Many other companies charge more, and there are others that charge less. We are comfortable with our fair pricing that covers the skilled service expert, our office staff, insurance, licensing, vehicles, overhead expenses and any warranty work that may be required on rare occasion. In most all cases what you pay with us is ultimately less, considering the overwhelming value we deliver.

Wish I able to give this 0 stars. Don't ever trust this company, save your money. Diagnosed that the entire evaporator coil needed to be replaced quote $2000 said that was just for labor when the entire Trane AC was purchased for $7000 approx 7 years ago. They said parts were still under warranty. Got a second opinion the issue was NOT the evaporator coil it was the compressor motor leaking Freon. 20 year owner of this home and they'll never be used again.
I've disputed their $360 diagnostics charge which they also lied about, it was supposed to be only $120 but they said freon leak detection another $240 on top of that. Now I need to take them to small claims court because the CC company said it's a valid charge. Fortunately wife works at a law firm so if they don't credit back they can pay for attorney fees.
We stand behind everything we say Adam. A quick conversation could have resolved this and you would have been good to go. We have served you well for many years. I hope somewhere out there you can find a company good enough for you to stick with longer term.

Very junior technician was sent who charged us for the "extended diagnostic" $690 just to say he does not know what is wrong and have to be back with more experienced person for more diagnostic and more $$$.
We specify the issue is with the A/C electronic when we place the service call based on the diagnostic from our regular A/C guy who actually recommended to call Trane authorized service because they can do it.
Highly disappointed.
