I have taken all of my vehicles to Payless 4 wheel drive. They have completed the work that I asked for and will explain things I have questions on. I even had an issue with my gas gage not registering correctly and when I took my truck in for a completely different issue, it was working when I drove it home. So I got a two for one. Mark and James are always friendly when I am waiting in the lobby for my vehicle to be finished.

Payless auto repair is the best in town to get a diesel truck or any truck, especially a 4WD repaired. They always show me what is wrong and more importantly why it needs to be fixed or if it can wait. They give me detailed receipt/description of what repairs are needed and then done. James is their mechanic and he’s great at explaining everything.
They installed an Iron Man lift kit on my Subaru. Then a radiator, steering box, and up-pipes on my F-350.
The best part is they’re very patient with an old lady who is picky about her vehicles!!!! Plus best labor rates I’ve seen in Chico.

They try to take my dad's 1957 Plymouth original book and I went in saying do you have my dad's book like 5 times and try to say we don't have it and when we took the car in they hold it for 3 weeks and didn't do shit on it and still payed $950 there a rip off who thinks they know what there doing but don't my advice to anyone don't take your car in to these guys and I thought your guys say Payless not pay and arm and leg lol way to over price when you guys didn't do anything to car and let it sit there for 3 weeks
You state that you are not the customer and that this is not your vehicle. You state that the customer is your dad and the Plymouth belongs to him.
We did have a Plymouth towed-in back in late July. It was a no start. It was not a 1957, it was a much earlier model.
We quoted 2 hrs for a diagnostic, which the customer agreed on and signed a contract. After looking at the vehicle we found many issues including but not limited to broken wires, shorts in the wiring causing smoke, no insulation in wires that should be insulated, damaged cap and rotor and corrosion of parts/wiring. We spoke to the customer and told him what we had found, explaining that he had several issues and that even fixing what we were initially finding might not fix all the problem. It is an old vehicle with worn out parts and wiring.
The customer asked us to fix what we found and if that didn't fix the problem to keep trying to diagnose it. He authorized up to $2000 of work. He also told us at this time that he had already had another mechanic from Craigslist work on the vehicle for the same no start issue.
After fixing the some of the issues we noted, the vehicle still would not start. We noted on the tag that we believed the issue was in the old / corroded wiring. We told the customer that we needed to stop here as we believed it would be much more than the $2000 approved.
We charged the customer $931.07. This was for the work we actually completed and for the approved diagnostic. The customer was not charged for the dozens of hours of labor (time) that we actually put into this vehicle. The customer was disappointed but did not want to spend any more money at that time.
As far the the book, it was left on our counter when the customer came to pick up his vehicle. The customer called and asked if it was here and we told him yes, it was here. He said he would be back to pick it up. Sometime later, it was picked up.
If the actual customer has any questions about the work we did, we encourage him to come in and talk to us. We have his work order right here.

If you need a shop that has people who know how to work on lifted trucks, then this is the place for you!
I installed a new steering set up on my 07 dodge ram 2500, and I needed someone with experience in dialing in all the components. I tried 2 places up in lassen county 3 different times, and they could not adjust the steering correctly. I made an appointment with payless 4 wheel drive and took my truck in hoping they could finally fix the issues. After talking with the guys I could tell they had the experience to set my steering correctly, and they did! Instead of bouncing around trying to find a shop to help me out with the things beyond my capabilities in the future, I'm making this shop and these people my go to place for my truck and my wife's H3. They even buffed my headlights to be nice because they were very faded! You will not be treated better anywhere else! These people have true customer service and you can really see it!

Great little shop, straight to the point and very honest. Understand that the size of their shop dictates their availabilities, but they will do their best to get your job done in a timely fashion!
The personnel have always been friendly and helpful to me. I have had all my smog tests done there every two years with no problems. However they are currently not doing smog tests so they recommended another establishment.
