Throughout the day Miss Kylie was reprimanding children too young to understand they are not “performing” tasks she requests immediately. I saw clear issues at both lunch “sit in your chair now!” And nap time. She demonstrated agitation when they do not do what she wants straight away. Inappropriate tone in her voice and inappropriate level of expectations upon 18month-2years old toddlers. Sleep time was a disaster with loud lullaby music you could hear all the way at the other end of the centre at the front door. She repeated her self endlessly increasing the agitation in her voice at them to “close your eyes” “lay down now” “rest your body” “lay down, it’s time to rest your body now” she was becoming visibly worked up and agitated with them. So I simply and silently picked up one child and gently laid him down and stroked his hair smiling at him and he calmed down instantly. The LEAD educator who was outside, then came in and thanked me for my help. Prior to that, Miss Kylie had 5 children in total to assist on her own (mine was there for a ‘play date’ bringing the total to 6) which exceeded the limit I think, but the issues is that she did not recognise she can’t verbally instruct a young child to go to sleep whilst rocking the other two. Children of that age cannot be instructed to sleep with a harsh angry tone and repeated failed requests. If they don’t achieve something in 1-3 requests then you need to actively get up and do something as the adult to assist the child! Her pats were way too firm to the point of aggressive, one poor little girl wanted to roll over and was asking for a pat on the bum but Kylie kept repeating “yes pat” looking at her angry and pushing a pillows down on her front and patting really hard. Another educator nearly strangled a child with its own jumper by trying to rip it off their body in one motion, from standing behind them, without getting arms out first and just yanking and yanking and yanking over his face (smothering him) without it coming off such that it was a tight noose around their head. I intervened and said (a) not safe and stop right now, and (b) I explained you face the child get arms out first then facing the child peel the top off from their face first to go over to the back of their head. I said you face them and get it over their face carefully you don’t yank it off them from behind. Managers were informed of my observations, but the expectation was the staff should know how to remove clothing despite this not covered in their Cert 3 training. Managers did not take responsibility for their lack of training their staff and simply felt disappointed in them. I’m disappointed in all of you. I am socked that the response from both Heather and Aletia was that I should not have engaged with any of the children as this is a “safeguarding concern” the term used in the context of child abuse. The appropriate legislation in this regard, I would have thought, is the paramount principle. Meaning the best interests of the child comes first. I helped a child who was otherwise going to be injured/choked/smothered and another from the horrible psychological stress the educator was inflicting upon the room with her reprimands and anger over the volume of the blaring loud music. Honestly, that type of DARVO from managers should be a major red flag to anyone considering this place.

We just moved from Sydney and the staff at Papilio Reedy Creek have made us feel welcome and part of the community since day 1. Made the transition for both my kids so much easier supporting them in every way. They say “it takes a village” and I am thankful that Papilio Reedy Creek is part of our village ❤️

Personally hate reviewing things, but I’ve made an exception for the wonderful staff at PRC. Aletia, Josie and the team have been nothing short of amazing in helping my daughter transition to this centre. Thank you all so very much.

As a Parent and Educator, I Highly recomend Papilio at Reedy Creek . As a Parent I am so very happy with the amazing Early Learning expereinces provided to my child. The Preschool/ School readiness program is phenomenal and so very enriching. As a place to work at, It is filled with the most supportive staff and the support for managment is un paramounted. Ideas are followed through, Ratio's are kept low, and every persons individuality is celebrated. We are so very lucky to be apart of such a wonderful team and community. Thankyou for all your support <3

I was hesitant about moving to Affinity after leaving my previous company as I was there for 7 years and was apprehensive of change... but it was the best decision I could have made! The Management Team at the time (Maddy and Aletia) went overboard to ensure I was comfortable and the transition was as smooth as possible. The amount of professional development opportunities that have been offered to me to further develop my knowledge and understanding, as well as my own career goals was (and is) exceptional! Thanks to Affinity I now have the opportunity to complete my Graduate Diploma and the support from my team around this has been humbling. I've been in the industry over a decade and the dynamics and environments within Papilio Reedy Creek have been one of the best services I have worked in - from programs that are child led whilst supporting each child to embrace their own individuality, to setting up amazing learning environments and project inspiring provocations, to the incursions brought into the service based on parent and child input, as well as treating each family as an extension of our own family... I'm really proud of the service and all it has to, and can, offer our children, families and community.

I was feeling bad for leaving a poor review, given the few good educators that were around. But since both of them have left, and for the sake of potential future students' safety, I felt it necessary. I witnessed one 'educator' mocking a toddler for being a 'cry baby' when I went and alerted them there was a child hiding in the corner crying. Another educator continually forced hugs on my child, when my child clearly said no and was physically struggling away from them. They would also grab my child from behind and yank them in for a 'cuddle'. The fact all the above was so brazenly infront of me makes me concerned what else went on behind closed doors. On a less serious note - there is no bush kindy. Beware, as they didn't advise us until we were a few weeks in and by then we weren't comfortable forcing a change on our child. Obviously the body safety issues changed that.

We’ve noticed a big difference in our 2.5year old since starting daycare here! She is in general more happy and excited to go to daycare and is showing a lot of interest in learning about the world around her. The educators and admin have a lot of time for the kids and parents too. Glad we found this centre !

My son has been attending Papilio Early Learning for the past 2.5 years and his experience has been wonderful he has made lots of friends and the educators are always encouraging and so supportive. I’ve recently enrolled my youngest daughter who has special needs and the centre especially Aletia could not of been more accommodating, she requires a little more attention as she’s slightly physically delayed and requires a very strict diet, the centre has gone above and beyond to educate the other educators on her special requirements, and needs. I can leave her there with peace of mind knowing she is been very well taken care of. Couldn’t recommend a better childcare centre on the Gold Coast.

Both our children attend Papilio at Reedy Creek. The are very happy and love the centre. The educators are great and ensure our kids are comfortable and settled. Management- Aletia and Heather are very welcoming and approachable. Like most daycares, staff turnover is high, but this seems to have stabilised more recently.

Papilio Early Learning at Reedy Creek has been a real game changer for our family. My daughter has always been really stressed wanting to do more than she could. At 7 months old my daughter started attending this centre. She had major anxiety when we started as she never left my side before but, the educators were so warm and welcoming and held her hand every step of the way. She also had a major fear with paint. She now asks every day to go to Kindy, is thriving and has fun filled days and paints every single day. The centre offers great programs, staff treat the children like they are family, are super easy to deal with and provide guidance and advice on any concerns we have as parents. My son (currently 9 weeks old) is already part of the furniture and receives many cuddles on our drop off/pick up for my daughter. Couldn't rate this family orientated centre enough.
