If ever passing through, stop in and step back in time in this museum featuring Montgomery county history! They have a Sorghum fest every year in October and it's a sweet old fashion event!

An interesting museum about Montgomery County. It has lots of artifacts of items made or used in the county. Many revolve around crystal mining or forestry. There is also a lot from a pharmacist that helped create the place. The hot item seems to be the rotary phone that works. Kids fascinated by it. There is a barn with more stuff in the back.

Thanks Thomas, yes, they love the phone.

The exhibits are very interesting and focus around Mt. Ida history. There are some hands on exhibits, an old house that was moved to the property and more! Free to the public but you can donate or become a member to help support the museum.

I took my grandchildren to the sorghum festival. The people are so nice in that town. Made you feel like you were coming home. The museum was nice, but made me feel very old. Lol. Kids had so much fun doing work ironically, like splitting logs and shucking peas.
Reply from Heritage House Museum 2022.03.28
Those kids were adorable out there shelling those peas. Please come again next year.

Was neat seeing artifacts and photos (circa 1880's - 1960's) from this area, and write-ups on the history, and geological specimens. My inner-rock-collecting-child loved it. :-)
