Overall good quality; except pic detail quality.
So finally got this installed after bought this set of cameras a while ago, so I have been using this brand for years for different locations. And am pretty much happy with the quality, anyway, below is the breakdown;Pro; good quality camera, durable, has really loud sensor ( but I told the tech to turn it off as it kept making really loud noise when customer walk by non stop ),2T Comes with DVR, really brightMontavue has their own app and is really straight forward, easy to use, able to do recording, play back etc etc, I could tell they put in a lot of work making this app ( from way back in the days ) and is still great; as I use the app to monitor all of my stores & business,Reasonable pricing.Con; really poor picture quality ? so for all of my other Montavue cameras, they all had really good picture quality especially when I zoom in on my phone, I can see that person or subject’s face really clear and take a screenshot ( forward to the PD if they ask or requested),Anyway get back to this camera; the overall pic quality is fine & clear; BUT; once I zoom in and again; try to get a clear look of the individual/ person / subject’s face it became really blurry, is like looking at a piece of bread I just punch after it was bake?!?!?! Totally useless, the only way I could was to take a pic “at a distance “ then zoom in on that pic, at least; then I was able to see that person’s face; no as clear as I wanted to and definitely can’t compare to the other one I have. The quality of the picture details is really important!!!!!!!Note; I personally really like this brand because they seems to make good quality security cameras ( until this set; this model; that’s the reason why it only got a 3 star for this review )Conclusion; I would not buy and use any other system system other than the Montavue brand for the last 10 years, and will continue to buy their products if needed, I also do not mind paying ( as long as the quality is good / great ), the only reason why the rating for this review is again; because of the zoom in quality of the details is just really poor.Side note; Btw; Montavue do have a bunch of different cameras from single to set(s) with different pricing, so there’s a lot to choice from.
Works OK
I waited many months before writing this review so I could give it a fair test. The camera works and it's pretty good. It was difficult to mount in my situation, but that's not a camera fault.Getting it working was slow, but it finally worked and the picture is acceptable. Video at night is fair. The microphone is not really useful. If it picks up anything at all, it's muffled and distorted. Perhaps there is something wrong with my unit or the mounting location. I hear wind noise too, which should not happen.Overall it's acceptable for a security camera if you just need the basics at a reasonable price. Next time I'll go for a wireless version to make installation easier. And get it working before you take it outside to mount it. Then you can also see if the quality is what you expect.
Power PoE - Router
Says it can be used as a stand-alone camera. I do not have an NVR, and would be connecting the camera directly to my router. But there is no power supply included, nor is the power supply mentioned anywhere in the ad. Will the router supply the power needed on the Cat-5 cable?
Picture quality comparable to OEM without brand name price
depending on what you need the camera for, you can never go too high in terms of resolution. HD are getting cheaper by the day, and higher resolution will allow you to zoom in to identify whatever it is you're trying to protect or guard against. Works well right out of the box with my Swann NVR system without any need to configure or complicated set up. Make sure that everything is working in terms of operability, networking, settings, etc. BEFORE you take the time to install the camera in its intended position. Take some forethought to plan out height & angle of your camera for maximum effectiveness & coverage, taking into account factors such as environmental exposure/interference, foot/car traffic, vandalism, etc.
Excellent add on PoE camera
I recently got a 8 channel NVR that came with 4 cameras. I wanted to add some more cameras so I got this. I had already run a Cat6 cable so this was an easy and quick install. It connected right up and worked great. The only drawback is this camera only has a 105 degree field of view while the original cameras are 130 degree but the video quality is just as good.
Typical hikvision Amcrest style.
This camera is meant for use with a video recorder. If you don’t have one, there is free software out there for a computer. It does the normal onvif and multiple rtsp streams. Supports safari browser, but the 4K stream doesn’t like to work in the browser, works fine in VLC and the video recorder. I use these with home assistant. It responds quickly to start a stream, which isn’t something you think about when buying. Resolution and frame rate are good. Microphone picks up sounds far away clearly.
