I can’t recommend these classes with Ellie highly enough. I needed to use my French again for work after a long break and the private one to one classes have really helped my confidence. Ellie is very professional yet makes the classes fun and relaxed. Now that I’m feeling more confident I have moved on to group classes and have met some lovely people.

J'ai essayé de nombreuses options et l'ambiance et les méthodes d'apprentissage de ses cours sont supérieures à toutes les autres. Ellie est une professeure très enthousiaste et passionnée par la langue française. Sa connaissance de la culture française rend les cours amusants et elle trouve toujours du contenu intéressant (vidéos, chansons, articles) pour créer des conversations entre les membres du groupe. Son site Web est sophistiqué, donc vous pouvez également trouver de nombreuses ressources en dehors de vos cours. Tout cela avec des tarifs abordables en plus ! Je vous recommande fortement d'essayer un cours et de le voir vous-même :)

I joined The French Room evening class once a week and loved the classes. It feels really authentic, real French with loads of useful, idiomatic and colloquial phrases! Everyone is a committed learner and really supportive of each other. Thanks so much Ellie and see you in a class very soon!

I found The French Room and Ellie while searching online for an immersive study program. I have been extremely happy with TFR and Ellie. The course offerings are plentiful from tutos, private lessons, group lessons, book club, etc. I have participated in and enjoyed them all. Ellie’s grasp of the language, her teaching style and positive encouragement makes the learning process an enjoyable experience. I always look forward to our weekly classes. I highly recommend TFR and Ellie if you are looking for an immersive, positive avenue to learn the French language.

The Frenchroom run by Ellie is a great way to learn French. The weekly classes are a safe space to practise speaking within a small group and the daily Tuto’s add bite sized learnings along the way. I have been learning with Ellie for 8 months and feel that my French has improved, my confidence has grown and I have also met a lovely group of people in my class! I would recommend Ellie and the Frenchroom for anyone looking to learn French in a relaxed but effective way!

I am so happy I discovered Ellie & The French Room! Really fantastic interactive Zoom sessions in small groups! Ellie also offers a great variety of other content on her learning site as well as daily Tutos, Book Club, French cooking lessons, etc. I began in preparation for a trip to France, but will keep going to continue to improve my French! Very helpful in aiding me in understanding grammar points I struggled with grasping for a long time. Very clear explanations in helping me to recognise and apply tenses also. Would 100% recommend!!!

I started taking classes at the French Room because while I seemed to be learning vocabulary through Rosetta Stone, I had no practice in live conversation. I was nervous to get started, but quickly felt not only welcome, but a part of the group. Ellie is a patient and encouraging teacher. She’s also funny! Which makes learning feel that much more enjoyable. The lessons are well-structured and well-planned, with a variety of approaches to learning, including listening, speaking and writing. I’ve been taking classes with her since December and already feel like I have a much better grasp on French than I did before. I also feel like it’s okay to make mistakes now, to not get everything right right away, which is huge for me, as I tend to lean toward perfectionism. Being able to relax and make mistakes has allowed me to learn so much more. While Ellie’s program is based in the UK, I’ve been taking classes on Zoom from Atlanta, Georgia with no problem. This is an accessible, fun, affordable program that you won’t regret signing up for!

I believe I have improved my grasp of the French language thanks to Ellie. Also, I find myself adding more access to French media, books, people thanks to the self assurance garnered in these classes. If you want to learn French, in every way, I encourage you to go the the French Room.

Ellie is an excellent teacher, pushing you ahead with your language skills but equally prepared to spend time explaining any points you may have missed or not understood. I have just enjoyed one of the fully immersive weekends. Initially this seemed a bit daunting but doubts were quickly wiped away, leading to a wonderful weekend learning and activity. Immersion to the degree that members of the group were even trying to speak to the locals in French when out and about! For anyone wishing to learn French I would recommend The French Room without hesitation.

I can highly recommend The French Room. Thank you, Ellie, for three years of teachning me French and I won't stop as it's such a joy and inspiration doing the Zoom lessons! I have developed the confidence of speaking French up to taking the Delf B1 exam and passing it :-). I can't thank you enough for fantastic knowledge, teaching skills and a great personal connection.

I’ve been learning French on and off for the last five years and have tried loads - live lessons with a French native, Duolingo, Off line courses etc and none really seemed to work. What I was looking for was a native English speaker who speak fluent French - that way they can explain the points to me in a way that makes sense. I’ve been with Ellie for a few months now and love it. The Group environment really works for me, as does the monthly membership option for Tutos. I only wish I had more time to devote to my studies as then I’d be able to improve massively under Ellie’s guidance.

Have been learning French with Ellie since July of this year and I already see progress. She makes each class fun and versatile and, she is very focused on giving me different tools to improve my learning experience. The French Room is an excellent way to learn French online in the comfort of my home. There are very interesting podcasts, videos, tutorials, etc that helps me learn more in between classes and Ellie is just awesome! Classes are structured very specific to my needs and I can’t even feel the time passing because I’m having a great time. Without question, The French Room is the best option for anyone who wants to learn French online.

It is a year now since I discovered ´The French Room’ through Google. I have gradually joined in more classes and the 15 min ´Tuto’ sessions through the week keep me tuned into all aspects of the language. Ellie is an extremely patient and encouraging coach, building on far more than the lessons, she develops compatible groups at a variety of levels and over the sessions one discovers new friends from far and wide. Week by week the language becomes a part of one’s everyday life. The flexibility and variety from grammar to cookery exceeds anything I could have imagined. Thank you Ellie, I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my fluency in ‘The French Room’ next year.

I have been taking weekly lessons with Ellie for the past six months and also did an intensive course with her at Barnstable and would like to recommend her as a great teacher. Her lessons are fun as well as being thorough, she extends your vocabulary while at the same time correcting and perfecting your speaking skills. Time slips by very quickly in her lessons, she brings fresh ideas and encourages maximum participation. She also uses very up-to-date French. Ellie’s intensive course was excellent, hard work, full on, but very rewarding. Combining desk work with activities in the local area she manages to keep the momentum going every minute of the day. The course starts with a list of objectives which provides a very useful focus. Practicing my French on the lovely beaches, villages and restaurants around Barnstable was an added bonus. I would recommend Ellie’s courses to anyone wishing to improve their French in a focused and fun way.

I'm now well into my second lot of '10-course-parcels' purchases at a discount and I can easily see myself as a life-time member of 'The French Room' - This does not mean that I cannot imagine myself ever progressing; not at all! In fact, I feel much more confident speaking French since first joining last October, after many years of dabbling in the language. The reason why a I am likely to be a life-time member is that the course is just so much fun. Ellie is one of the most gifted teachers I have ever come across. She has a deep knowledge of her subject with the ability to impart it well to her students, sprinkled with a goodly portion of humour. Thursday mornings have become one of the highlights of the week and I am confident that the other members of our friendly little group feel the same. Keep up the good work, Lillie!

This is exactly what I was looking for. Great teacher and I have found that learning with others has been really beneficial so far. I also think the courses are good value for money and I highly recommend.

A really enjoyable community of french speakers, with lots of opportunities to enjoy aspects of french culture in different ways, virtually and in real life. Ellie is a really engaging teacher and very adaptable to your way of learning and challenges you to get the most out of the classes.

My self and my wife decided to learn French after going on a few holidays. The idea was to be comfortable speaking, not only when in the restaurants or tourist areas but in general conversation as well. Ellie has tailored our lessons to our requirements and makes learning a pleasure, we are now able to talk to our French friends easily and with them understanding what we are saying without going to the translator apps!
