It doesn't get much better than this! ☺ We've had a fantastic 3-night stay at Komorian, a beautiful house located near the Kumano Kodo trail, which is owned and operated by the wonderful Miko. Miko is a fantastic host who really went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and relaxing. Already before we arrived, Miko offered detailed advice on how to get to the accomodation that was specific to our needs. She also helped us to arrange a luggage transfer service. From Komorian, hiking the Kumano Kodo trail couldn't be easier. Miko offered great advice on which sections of the trail to hike and when. She would also bring us to the starting point in the morning, and pick us up again in the afternoon after we finished hiking. Miko is an incredible cook, serving us breakfast and dinner every day. We really enjoyed the delicious meals she prepared for us, showcasing the breadth and variation of Japanese cuisine, and which incorporated many products local to the area. Miko is also kind, good-humoured, and fluent in English. We had many memorable conversations with her, and could ask her anything about the local area, Japan, or Japanese culture. The house itself is spacious and elegant, featuring traditional Japanese architecture (sliding doors, tatami mats) but with a modern touch. Large windows afford beautiful views of the river located right next to the house. At night, you drift into sleep listening to the tranquil sounds of the flowing river and chirping crickets. The house is well-equiped with a large kitchen, bluetooth speaker, kettle, television, airconditioners, and plenty of plates, cups, and dishes. After a long walk, we really enjoyed having a relaxing bath in the wooden bathtub, and lounging in the living room under the kotatsu (a piece of traditional japanese furniture that combines a couch, table, and futon).

Hi Anne, thank you for the nice review! After we left, I felt thirsty and ate the umeboshi G gave me, and I went straight to a convenience store to buy a bottle of water, hahaha! Yeah, umeboshi doesn't work when thirsty... I wonder who started this stupid habit... Umeboshi, Takoyaki and maccha bowl will always keep me remind of 4 of you in the future, like forever. Thank you for the beautiful memories!

Amazing stay, wish we were able to rate it higher than a 10 ! ☺ We recently had the most amazing 4 night stay here. The house was beautiful and Miko was a delightful host. The house is even nicer than the photographs. The food Miko prepared was superb and with advance notice she was able to accommodate one of us being vegetarian. We were walking the Kumano Kodo. Miko is fluent in English and was knowledgeable about the Kumano Kodo route and drove us to our start each morning and picked us up at the end of our walk each afternoon. On her website, there is a lot of information about the area and possible Kumano Kodo itineraries using her lodging as a base. There is a washer and dryer on site for guest use. Unexpected highlights for us were a relaxing breakfast one morning on the little porch that overlooks the river, and the delightful s'mores one evening. We would definitely stay here again if we are ever close by.

Hi Catherine! Today, I found out the host can leave the replay to reviews, so I would like to say thank you again :D It was really beautiful that mother and daughter were staying together and enjoying s’more in that quiet night. And you gave me the confidence that this house deserves to staying more than 2 nights! In the case you try to hike Kohechi route (the challenging one), please let me know. I will hike together :D!

I’ll definitely come back again. ☺ What an amazing experience it has been staying in Miko’s home. I’ve travelled and stayed in many countries, this has to be my top 10. Her home is spotless, beautifully designed, with lots of great amenities. Soak in a wooden bath tub or just sit by the living room watching the river rage past. Her cooking is fabulous! Enjoyed every bit of her hospitality. ☹ honestly this is the best here. we stayed in a few other highly rated hotels. nothing we didn’t like!

Hi Aileen, how are you doing? It is already 4 months ago that you stayed at Komorian. Time flies! Thanks to the review you left for us, we are having a lot of guests now :D And I am going to try the last half of Nakahechi route by myself in this coming winter. I will take a picture of Nachi fall and send you for evidence, hahaha.
