Absolutely fabulous dishes to share. We had the scampi carpaccio, asparagus and beef short rib and they were all fantastic. Very friendly service. We were unlucky with a rather loud group sitting right behind us. Fortunately they were able to move us to a different table upon our request.
I chose this restaurant expecting a high-end dining experience, which is why I booked it for dinner. My party of three arrived at 8:15 PM and — after being told there were many menu options and asking for a recommendation — we agreed to the server’s suggestion: the “Just Feed Me” tasting menu. Unfortunately the experience was deeply disappointing.
Instead of a thoughtfully curated progression of dishes, we were served mainly tofu, cheese and repeated salmon preparations. It felt like we were being given leftovers from the kitchen rather than a deliberate tasting. This was especially frustrating because the à la carte menu clearly listed beef, scallop carpaccio and lamb, none of which were offered during the tasting. On top of that we were given two identical fish plates to share, which reinforced the impression of a lazy, unimaginative service.
The starters showed an inconsistent mix of flavours and influences with little connection between them; there was no sense of a cohesive concept or clear direction. Only the fish dishes were genuinely enjoyable — the rest lacked balance, creativity and attention to detail.
Overall the “Just Feed Me” menu felt misleading and uninspired. For a restaurant that positions itself as high-end, this offering lacks heart, coherence and the quality one would expect. I hope management reviews the concept and execution of this tasting menu — until the experience matches the menu’s promise, customers won’t be returning.
Kika Restaurant – A Wonderful Dining Experience in Queenstown
I had a truly memorable dinner at Kika Restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a modern yet relaxed vibe that makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in.
One of the highlights of my meal was the sole fish. It was cooked perfectly — delicate, fresh, and beautifully seasoned. The flavors were subtle yet refined, allowing the natural sweetness of the fish to shine through. It was definitely one of the best dishes I enjoyed in Queenstown.
The rest of the dishes were also beautifully presented and full of flavor, showcasing thoughtful craftsmanship and high-quality New Zealand ingredients.
The service was another highlight. The staff were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, offering excellent recommendations and making the whole experience feel personal and welcoming.
Overall, Kika delivers a perfect balance of delicious food, beautiful plating, and outstanding service. A place I would happily return to and highly recommend to anyone visiting Queenstown.
Came to Kika for my birthday dinner and loved it! 🥳 The atmosphere was cozy and the staff were incredibly welcoming. We found the set course to be excellent value. While the seasoning on the starters and entrees was a little salty for our taste, the main course was perfection. The Wagyu Short Rib was remarkably tender and flavorful. My friend and I aren't usually big meat eaters, but we absolutely devoured it!
Food was ok, but nothing too impressive. Highly recommend the sourdough. The fried chicken was juicy, but the saucy was too strong. Personally I would prefer the short rib to be more fall apart tender, and the sauce was too strong on the meat surface and tasted blank and dry inside. The scampi was good, oyster so-so. Definitely would expect better quality at this level.
Service had a lot room to improve and was quite disorganized. First, waited 5+ minutes at the front for the host, while 5+ waitress were standing there doing nothing??? They told us there would be a new waitress serving our table together with an experienced one. So it was quite confusing sometimes. One just changed our plate, and then someone came literally 1 min later to take away the new plates, and I had to remind them.
The tasting menu tried to introduce some kind of omakase concept without telling you the actual dishes to serve. It worked well for sushi restaurants, but not for most others including this restaurants. We did not pick tasting menu, but heard many unpleasant reviews about it…
Wonderful food in Wanaka
Wonderful shared meal that delighted with every dish. Between we had 2 starters and a main dish of lamb, with potatoes & broccoli side dishes. Each dish was exquisite - with a wonderful, often unexpected, combination of flavours. We shared the 1 kg of lamb between 3 & enjoyed every mouthful. We finished every dish.
Holy heck! They sure know how to make something so simple so delicious. Every bite I was savoring and am still thinking about days later.
This is a must try Resturant when in Wanaka.
Everything was fantastic, from greeting to the departure, we loved every moment. Completely blown away.
Beyond any dinning experience I’ve ever had, attention to detail like no other. the staff go above and beyond and make you truely feel special and heard. We were blessed with our server Manon whose service was amazing. Not to mention the best food we have had since being in New Zealand. so fresh and beautifully prepared. Please do yourself a favour and experience this amazing place. (If I could give it more than 5 star I would it’s incredible)
