UPDATE 4/1/24: Took my daughter who is 12 yo for a wonderful week with the Kite Club. Hristo was awesome! We had the most amazing time. Hristo made our stay wonderful for the second time in a row. I recommend them to everyone who wants to learn to kite. Thanks again!!!
My wife and I had never tried kite surfing before and thought the best place to learn would be to come to the Outer Banks and immerse ourselves. We found Kite Club Hatteras when searching for a "one week and learn how to kite" school that goes at your pace. This is exactly what we found. The first day was overwhelming with lots of new stuff to learn. By the second day we were more confident with the kite and even getting up on the board. By the third day we were riding. The accommodations are great as you share a house with "like minded" people who are there to kite. Not only do you get lessons during the day, you get to ask lots of questions from the other people in the house who are all at different stages in their progression. On my downtime I even progressed in my surfing skills.
When we first arrived we were not sure what we got ourselves into. After five days we are confident that we can go out on our own safely. I am so excited with the progress and can't wait to get back out on the water.
If you are going to Hatteras to learn how to Kite this is the place for you.

I had a great time staying at the Kite Club and taking lessons from James. He is a wonderful instructor and helped me get to the next level of my kite boarding adventure. Especially loved his video recordings of my rides with constructive and encouraging commentary which allowed me to review what I was doing and how to correct it. Rooms at the Kite Club are flawlessly clean with plenty of space to lounge and strong WiFi to work if you need to. Big bonus was that the place is dog friendly so that I could stay with my little mutt who was loved up by everyone there. Hoping to return next season !
I booked kiteboarding lessons with James. What a ride! He did a superb job of building me up from zero knowledge to riding and flying! I could snowboard and wakeboard before trying to kiteboard and I'm so thankful. Without that foundation, managing the kite would have been impossible for me.
After 3 hours of intense exercise, I was beat. It felt so good to sit on the sidewalk at Burger Burger and down a SUPER DUPER BURGER BURGER BREAKFAST BURGER! That thing could barely fit in my mouth... omg
Next, I plan on getting my own kite and having James take me to the next level! 🤘😉🤙
I highly recommend this to any wakeboarder or snowboarder. It's EPIC!
I just spent 10 days in the OBX taking lessons from these guys. I had two instructors over 7 sessions... Rick and James.... and both were very patient, personable and excellent teachers. I'm a total beginner and I've had many hours of lessons before coming here...in la ventana and costa rica... but this was the first time I actually got up consistently and felt confident riding. Conditions here are superb for beginners. Communication was clear and responsive and they were very fair and flexible with their time. The great thing about this place is that you don't spend any time walking up and down the beach. We did totally water setups with the help of a jet ski or a skiff and having miles and miles of empty relatively flat warm waist deep sound water made for exceptionally effective use of time. Christo the owner also has several accommodations right on the spot which looked very comfortable and convenient though I didn't stay there because they were not available. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend these guys !
Private lessons with James got me from zero to upwind and it was an amazing experience. Having trainer kite and wakeboarding experience ahead of time can accelerate the private lesson plan significantly. When I needed extra tries to learn something, James was completely patient and provided steady feedback. He took videos of my riding w/ feedback to review between lessons. Good beginner friendly equipment choice, safe shallow location, and a steady wind all contributed to give me the best advantage. We used a jetski for transportation and support, wasting no lesson time. I'd highly recommend this place. They also lend out trainer kites for free practice, which is valuable.
We had a great time with our family at the club. House was the right size for our group and everything was good. We took advantage of the canal for kayaking and paddle boards along with the pool. Nice quiet area while still in close proximity to the main street. We explored the area and enjoyed our time. Christo and Melissa were so easy to work with and thoughtful. We would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a nice, clean spot for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Great location and accommodations on OBX
We had a great time on OBX. We really enjoyed our stay in the house and the convenience to everything. Our kids took advantage of the canal, kayaking and paddle boarding out the back door. We had fun exploring the area and spending time on the beach. Christo and Melissa are great hosts and easy to work with. You'll be well taken care of when you stay or take lessons from their excellent team.
Christo was good about working with our schedule and worked us in last minute. Craig was an excellent instructor. The lesson progression was perfectly paced for beginners and he tailored the lesson well to our abilities. He went through the safety procedures and we felt very safe in a learning environment. Overall a wonderful experience and we highly recommend taking lessons here.

The teacher, James Blick is very experienced. In a calm and precise way, he was able to guide me to improve step by step, each technique to be implemented to achieve efficient and satisfactory kite surfing.
I had a great time being part of the kite club over a week in May. James took me on the water and he was able to teach me things I was struggling to get for a year! He took me and other kiters out in places I would not have bene able to go. He knows Hatteras and all the great spots for kiteboarding.
Kite Club Hatteras is a great place to learn kite and to go on the water with other kiters. We had an amazing downwinder one of the days. Really a great time.I am already planning my fall trip!
