I Michael Richmond have made countless attempts to address the damage caused when staff members discredited me and smeared my name and reputation through their inappropriate actions. I reached out to the director and head of HR multiple times, asking for a clear explanation and a formal apology. Rather than take responsibility or seek resolution, the leadership — people up there in age who openly claim to be Christians — chose to involve an attorney and issue me a no‑trespass order.
They would much rather make an innocent person the villain and keep themselves the victim. The level of deceit, betrayal, and avoidance I experienced is staggering. These individuals present themselves as pillars of the community, yet their actions reveal a deep hypocrisy and a willingness to hide the truth rather than confront it.
If you want to understand the full picture, look up my name and Nick Secker in the reviews — and see for yourself how we were treated.
I was even told I could not leave an honest Google review — which only underscores how desperate they are to silence anyone who exposes their behavior. The community deserves to know the truth about how this organization treats people who come forward in good faith. I had to send this review through somebody else because I was blocked from leaving any kind of review on habitat. Imagine that that
“I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for nearly 10 months, fully believing in their mission of building hope and community. During that time, I poured my time, energy, and heart into supporting their work. If you read through the reviews here, you’ll see my name mentioned more than once — because I was present, consistent, and committed.
But over time, the mask started to slip. I witnessed a troubling lack of integrity and accountability from those in leadership, the very people meant to be pillars of the community. Instead of leading with honesty and compassion, they created an environment where hypocrisy overshadowed the mission.
Volunteers — the lifeblood of any nonprofit — should feel valued and respected. Instead, I saw them used and discarded. And when anyone dared to speak up, instead of listening, leadership resorted to smear campaigns, lies, and attempts to tarnish reputations.
Habitat for Humanity should represent hope, service, and integrity. Unfortunately, my experience revealed something very different. My hope in leaving this review is that true accountability and change can take root — because the mission matters too much to be overshadowed by the behavior I witnessed.”** *“I have made countless attempts to address the damage caused when staff members discredited me and smeared my name and reputation through their inappropriate actions. Tony and David did an outstanding job! Such hard workers with great customer service! Highly recommend. They went above and beyond as there a few limitations to what I can do. Very warm and friendly and servants ❤️s!!! So appreciative of what they do for such a great organization. Gmm

Thank you for the review Theodore. We hope you shop with us again soon and that next time we earn 5 stars from you. If you have any suggestions to make our guests' shopping experiences better, please feel free to share. We certainly do our best to have a variety of items, new and used, and all at discounted prices. Every dime we earns goes towards helping us build affordable housing for families and for making necessary repairs for our neighbors who could not otherwise afford to have them done.
Was hoping to find a couple things for our new home and was a HUGE success! The store was very well organized in my eyes, was able.to find everything smoothly. Will 1000% be coming back!

Thank you for your review JJ! If you repurpose, restore or revitalize items from the ReStore or if you have decorated or furnished a large portion of a room or your home with ReStore items - please let us know. We would love to learn more and see what you've done. Thank you again for your 5 star review.
This is a great place to get deals on items and help the community through a non-profit. Glenn(Bones) saw what I was purchasing (as he was eager to help me take down a fixture and load what they could for me) and helped me find some items I hadn’t noticed that went with the items I was purchasing. He’s got a great eye for pairing home furnishings.
Mike was very friendly at the register as well! I was loaded quickly and got some amazing deals!

Kendall, thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us. We will share your kind words with Michael as well and we hope you visit again soon!
I have shopped Habitat since it was on W Chestnut. Unfortunately, in the last year or so, their prices continue to rise disapportionately. Now they are like the Goodwill store for building/home supplies. They take free donated items and resale at much higher prices. It is so much higher that some items can be purchased new. This used to be a great store for a diy'er to save a little money, but if I am going to pay new prices, I am going to get the new item......................RE: Owners reply. I do not need a lesson told to me about what the mission is for the habitat resale store. I am very aware of what the purpose is of the Habitat Restore. I stand by my original review. It's wonderful that habitat resale raises funds to help people aquire good housing or repairs, but my point is that you don't have to gouge the diy'er who most of the time is the average Joe living from pay check to pay check . Habitat used to be the place they could shop to help ease the cost of a repair. This also helped our community. I have visited other Habitat resale stores in other states, and most of them are not charging new prices for used items. I compare prices and if your price is the same for that product brand new, of course I am going to purchase the new item. Unfortunately too many of your prices are in the new price range.

We are sorry to see you did not enjoy your shopping experience. We carefully look at every item in it's current condition and refer to similar new items. From there we try to price everything accordingly. While we strive to keep prices as low as possible, we exist to raise money to build homes for those in need and do affordable home repairs for others. There are also several things that we actually buy brand new but offer at discounted prices.
I love going here! If you’re a home improvement type of person or looking for very well priced furniture, this is the best place in Springfield. You can find anything, tiles, lights, counters, paint, literally anything if you’re improving on a budget, this is the first place you should look. I was helped by Micheal R and he got me the bookshelf of my dreams, super friendly folks here too!
