Escaped the Palm Springs heat with our trip to Dana point and San Juan Capistrano, last time we were here they had already sold out of the chocolate sourdough croissants. Came early on a Sunday this time picked up a couple of loaves of sourdough.
And split what we think may be the best chocolate croissant we've ever had. Life really is FKN beautiful.
Terrible service, dark atmosphere, and most surprisingly, horrible sandwiches! I checked the reviews before going in and thought, ok, let's give it a try. Right off the bat, cashier acted like I was interrupting her however, i was the only one in there. Most of the lights were truned off so I asked if they were open. Ordered the roast beef for $12. Way overpriced for 1 slice of roast beef drenched in mayo with super thin bread. A bakery needs to showcase the bread instead of thin slices. I dont recommend this place and Ill never be back.
Ran in to grab a snack. Tried their blueberry scone and peach muffin and both items were delicious. Both pastry were moist, had good flavor, and had the perfect level of sweetness. We had some questions about their bread and the service was excellent. Just a small order and go type establishment but pastries are very good!
I came here mainly because of the name. It sure sounds like they meant to say something else.
Specialty here is sourdough bread. Actually, at least 90 of its items are sourdough based, even sweet pastries and cookies.
Grabbed a regular sourdough, jalapeno cheddar sourdough, and a sourdough peanut butter dark chocolate cookie with sea salt. Sourdough breads were substantial and solid. The cookie was excellent. I really didn't get any sourdough taste in the cookie.
Service was friendly and helpful.
It's a tiny spot, mainly meant for just grab & go items. It's located across the street from The Mission.
Dear owners
Much thanks to the kind young man with brown curly hair who answered my knock after you had just closed on Sunday . His kindness saved a kids party cause I was able to get your starter for a baking party. Besides your best in world sourdough. And cookies. And all you make that we love. This was awesome.
Want to shout out this act of kindness and service to your loyal guests and your staffer who is an awesome guy.
Keep up the great work.
Not only does the name captivates you, but so does their bread. Had to make a stop here when I went to go visit the mission. They make fresh bread every morning and said the flavor that sells out the most was the jalapeño cheddar. That's exactly what I got. The crust was thick, the inside was chewy, and the jalapeño to cheddar ratio was good. The staff here were so friendly. My only regret was not coming sooner in the day to try their baked pastries they offer as most were sold out in the late afternoon.
This place is a must try when in san juan capistrano. Their original sourdough bread was really good. Tried their pistachio baklava croissant and it was good and flaky. I would definitely recommend this place for their baked goods and service.
